The service was exceptional from the moment I arrived. Niina and Goto at the welcome desk were genuinely warm, attentive, and made check-in feel effortless. Akaki went above and beyond, personally coordinating restaurant and onsen reservations for me throughout my stay — which made a big difference on a busy itinerary. The room was spotless, the amenities were top-tier, and the location was perfect for accessing the rest of Beppu.

Food options at the buffet were good but not outstanding. Quality was there but feel like should be more options based on the price. Staff were rushed keeping up with breakfast and both days had times where there were no glasses for drinks.Desserts at dinner were in small dishes that the spoons would not fit into.

I have such mixed feelings reviewing this hotel. On the one hand, this is by far one of the most gorgeous hotels I've ever been at. We decided to splurge on the Intercontinental in Beppu as a treat, and the location, facilities and views well exceeded our expectations. The room was huge, generous, had every modernity and luxury we could imagine and more, provided beautiful views and a spacious balcony. However the service was baffling, as I will detail below, which completely marred the experience and indeed I am not able to recommend this hotel, nor would I want to return to it. We enjoyed the outdoor jacuzzi, the gym was top notch with a view, the breakfast variety was wonderful.

Considering the level of the hotel and that it has plenty of space, being out of the city, some more attention could have been provided to parking. The parking is a bit of walk or requires outdoor stairs, both options would not be ideal for people with limited mobility, and seemed in incongruity with the other opulent features of the hotel.The really disappointing thing was the service staff. I was surprised that in such an international, top tier hotel, the level of communication with the staff was below average. I had two examples where communication was extremely frustrating. In one case, I asked the lady at reception, what area in Beppu would be good for walking around in the evening and finding a place for dinner. Bafflingly, she asked us to sit down, disappeared behind closed doors, only to return to her reception position within a few minutes without further addressing us. I came over to say nevermind, we will figure it out, at which point she apologized profusely. Something appeared to have been lost in translation, though I don't think this was an especially challenging interaction.The second issue was when we tried to order coffee at the bar, it was a comedy of errors which resulted in an extremely confused staff person who after asking us multiple questions and back and forth provided us with sub-par, expensive and lukewarm coffee. Again not something I would expect in this level of hotel. There were other small issues where discussions with the staff were confusing or unsatisfying, despite what seemed like their best efforts, but just seemed like they were ill equipped with dealing with international guests.

Very nice view and location overlooking the Beppu Bay. Design of the hotel is very comfortable, chic and casual luxury. Room is very beautiful and the restroom is awesome (very spacious). The onsen and view are very nice.

Nothing I don’t like in particular. I just hope the booking is specified saying the room view is not facing the Beppu Bay, since I booked the room with the expectation to see Beppu Bay from the room balcony. The booking website didn’t specify so I thought all rooms are facing the Beppu Bay based on the pictures available.

staff - poor training. Staff at check out argued with us on dinner that we already paid accused us of not paying when we already paid. he even asked us to show him proof that the dinner is included in the booking

Everything was brilliant. Only please expect to pay an Onsen fee regardless of use. The stadff were exceptional esp Hashan ,Ami, Chamut, and Navid.

No shuttle service by the hotel for guests as hotel is far from city

Pillows pillows… there should be more selection of different types of pillows and it would have made our stay a really enjoyable one.

Amazing facilities with great details in minds. It was far better than we expected. The dinner at the Atlier was one of the best fine dinning experience we had.

I was staying at the fourth floor. The food smell was coming from the Element restaurant.

Some places are intentionally yet unnecessary dark, like the way leading from lobby to guest rooms.

Perfect location, superb view overlooking the town and bay. Friendly and professional staff. Multitude of choices for breakfast, both Japanese and Western. Oita beef steak..a must try in an elevated and refined atmosphere at Atelier & Bar.

Simple.. its 5 star hotel and I loved it… the family onsen was great and private..

Breakfast is Fair but not Stunning. However, Accommodation & Facitities, Hotel Environment is AMAZING! Very Model & Grand Grade! AMAZING ROOM, Bathroom & toliet I trust it's the Best & most Top in BEPPU! Very Impressed & Must come Again!

Not sure if any Shuttle bus service from Town to Hotel, otherwise, only one point is traffic, you'd better rent car for traffic.

Service is immaculate-Kenya can speak very good English and attended to our needs with earnest. View was gorgeous and facilities were splendid.

There were plenty of choices at the breakfast and everything tasted so good. They had various types of home-made jam and juice!The pool was so good that my kid did't want to do anything other than spending time in the pool, so you don't have to think about where you should take your kids as log as you stay at the hotel.

Nothing that we did not like.
