About

Established in 1960, Hotel Mediterranée is in a peaceful area of Taormina's historical center, 5 minutes' walk from Corso Umberto. It offers panoramic views of the bay and Mount Etna, and an outdoor pool. All rooms at the Mediterranée Hotel are air conditioned and feature a TV with satellite channels. Most have a private terrace and fridge. Guests will enjoy relaxing in the large Mediterranean garden, offering great sea views. You will also have free use of a private beach at a sister hotel, reached by a shuttle service, at request. The restaurant serves a range of traditional Sicilian dishes, as well as international cuisine. Free Wi-Fi is available in all areas, and safety deposit boxes are available at reception. The Ancient Theater of Taormina and the cable car from Isola Bella are both a 10-minute walk away.

    Pros +

    • Great staff wonderful view from the patio of the sea and Mt. Etna. Nice selection of food items for breakfast. The hotel staff were wonderful.

    • The only thing good about this property. It’s the view from the rooms that have a terrace otherwise this property is absolutely terrible should not rated 9+ on bookings.com . I don’t think this property has been upgraded whatsoever since it was built. Everything is old from the furniture in the rooms to the floors to the hallway carpets it just looks absolutely worn out.

    Cons -

    • Bathroom was very basic Lift not very good
    • From the minute, we arrived to check in we were shocked as to how worn down the property is when we went to the very small narrow elevator to get to third floor. There was no air in the elevator. You feel like you’re gonna choke. The room was awful. The bathroom is so small including the shower if you’re a 6 foot 200 pound person like me you will not be able to enter the shower and then turn around to wash your back the doors don’t lock. The toilet is set so close to the wall did you have to sit sideways? The shampoo comes in a little paper pouch for $600 a night it’s a terrible value The two days we had breakfast. It was same breakfast. The staff looks like they walked off the street they’re not wearing any type of uniform. In fact one of the staff member who looks like the manager looks like he were the same shirt and pants for three days we were there. The hallway lights are out. You just feel you’re in a Third World country. It’s awful awful awful. I hope you take it off your booking so people do not book and get deceived by the picture of the room that shows the terrace and looks like a huge room. The sheets were stuck. They had to bring an expert to open the shades. At least we could see the view. There’s no safe box in the room I can go on and on and on I hope everybody gets the idea this a terrible hotel should be ranked minus one star.To the country the other hotels that we booked on Booking.com, they’re all matched the description of the hotel and services stay away from this hotel
    • Some parts of the hotel look a bit dated, like the front sign of the hotel by the entrance and some furniture, but overall it was very charming.

The pool was fantastically clean, the staff super friendly and accommodating, very helpful any time we had questions. The breakfast choice and quality was Ok.

We had an AMAZING time at this hotel, the location was perfect, so close to the corso umberto. The views from the terrace are the best in Taormina. The pool was fabulous! We stayed 6 nights and enjoyed seeing the wonderful staff every day! The owner/manager was so sweet and attentive, along with the kind people at reception and in the restaurant. The sister hotel by the beach was wonderful, a stunning spot on spisone beach. Mom and I were sad to leave, we hope to visit again one day!

    9DonnaPosted on: 8-31-2025

Location was excellent with great views and beautiful landscaping. The pool was nice for a refreshing swim and lounging after a busy day.

There was an odour at times from the bathroom.

    6MookPosted on: 8-8-2025

The views, the pool, beach club, and the staff were friendly

Outdated, very small and awkward bathrooms, breakfast was underwhelming

    10GabrielPosted on: 7-30-2025

Staff is super nice and gave us a lot of help on everything. Next time we go back to Taormina we will stay there. Plus you can use the facilities from the sister hotel at the beach.

The hotel is definitely in need of renovation. I upgraded to a room with a view, but I wish someone had mentioned that it came with a very cramped bathroom—we had to leave the shower door open just to use it, and every night there was a bad smell coming from the bathroom. The room itself felt much smaller than advertised, more like 16m².On the positive side, the staff were very helpful throughout our stay. The pool was lovely and breakfast on the terrace with that stunning view was a highlight. However, be prepared for a tough climb up the steps to the hotel, especially in the summer heat. One unexpected bonus was access to the sister hotel’s beach. We paid €9 each for the shuttle, and while the beach chairs were free, you’ll need to buy special water shoes (€10) as the rocky shoreline is painful to walk on barefoot. It would have been nice to know all of this in advance. Book with care.

    bathroom, size of room.

Amazing staff and location. Wonderful breakfast.

    Rooms need updating decor.

I didn't realize how many steps were involved climbing up to the hotel, which we did all the time as Taormina is all hills. But, once there, in our balcony room, the view was amazing. The water and Mount Etna views were stunning. The breakfast area was also beautiful and another great view. The pool and garden were hard to resist so we did spend some time there as well. The staff were very friendly and helpful and they made sure that we were always taken care of. We would stay there again.

The elevator is very small and slow.

The hotel is lovely Clean very good breakfast..The views are incredible . I found it to be one of the best positions in Taoramina. The sister hotel on the sea is also lovely. The rooms are a very good size. It's a beautiful hotel with old world charm.

I think they should up date the bathrooms.

Incredible location yes, views of Etna and the bay from our balcony, delicious and broad breakfast included which we really enjoyed on the sunny terrace with the same views. Beautiful rooftop pool and garden area on the cliffs above the town. A sister hotel with a beach club down below Taormina which you could visit for free. But it was the friendly, knowledgable, humour-filled service which nailed it.

Very little, although I’d caution it is above the town itself and most easily reached by a large flight of steps. My 83yo mother managed it at least once a day, but your elders’ mileage may vary.

Fantastic views plus the antiquated charm of the hotel. Friendly staff. Beautiful pool but not heated.

Needs to modernise (noisy lifts, ancient air con, confusing shower controls). Could make cheaper improvements by: offering free water in room, better quality/quantity of toiletries, kettles for drinks in rooms, replacing dated sign out front, clean fresh rugs. The two rugs in our bedroom were pretty disgusting. Better TV options would also help, like Netflix. The breakfast essentially was the same, day after day, with a pretty poor standard of choice. Provide a toaster for guests to use, plus a better choice of breads and fruit. In my opinion it's not really a four star, and does not represent good value for money. Ideal to try for one night, but consider elsewhere for longer stays. Especially if you have mobility issues.... getting in and out of bath is a mission, plus it needs quite a climb from the main street. Feel bad being critical but our stay was expensive and the hotel needs to move with the times and the competition.
