Pros +
- This is a bit of "À la recherche du temps perdu", a hotel of the 1990s. The place has seen better days, but everything is clean enough. The room was large and bathroom extra-large. It's been many years I took a bath in a bathtub. It was the cheapest place available in the town and I would go there again.
- The accommodation is clean and provides breakfast, it’s good value. My motorbike was stored overnight in a garage.
- This is a very basic stay and useful for passing through the area. There was not food in the evening on this day although reviews of food were good. There was an en suite and free parking at the location
Cons -
- The walk from the train station is not long, but some houses and empty shops on the way show that the town has seen better days.
- From the outside it’s somewhat off putting, which doesn’t reflect on how it is inside.
- The breakfast was disappointing really and the room more basic than we were expecting. The host was friendly enough. This location is not exactly on the tourist map, so it provides a basic stop over for one night if this is your purpose.

This is an old style French hotel. My room had clearly been renovated. The staff were very friendly and the evening meal was excellent. Breakfast was a bit basic but the half board arrangement was not expensive. Good situation less than 10 minutes walk from the Main Street. Quiet area and car park to the rear of the hotel. Ideal for a stopover for one night
Breakfast was a bit basic but then the hotel was not expensive
One stop - beer - dinner - bed
All of Europe need a kettle and tea coffee in the room please :-)
Yes the hotel looks dated however, Our six rooms were all clean with fresh towels no rubbish or dust that we could see. The hotelier did not speak English neither did the staff we spoke to, this was not a major issue as it gave us a chance to use our small amount of French. Other guests we talked to helped with the translation so no big deal.I would recommend this hotel to motorcyclists as they have secure parking in locked garage that our room overlooked. We stayed Saturday night, noise was not an issue almost no road traffic. Food in the restaurant was good, we had a small choice but no complaints. breakfast was the usual continental only one thing we encountered was no cold milk for the cornflakes. We will be back.
As I said hotel is dated, this is reflected in the price though. This is not a complaint but it may be helpful if they had a member of staff who could speak English.
Basic 'budget' room. Clean. Good breakfast and excellent evening meal offering big portions with choice of 2 different priced menus, each with several choices - 4 courses for €15, or €20. Allowed off road parking in private garage for our motorbikes.
Only bottled beer available. Outside could do with a spruce-up.
Secure parking for my motorcycle , exceptionally nice staff and food.
Old and tired, no air conditioning (it was 30 degrees that night ?
The hotel staff provided good service. The bathroom was recently renovated, spacious, and modern. Convenient parking available. The room was pleasant overall.
The bathroom, although spacious, lacked a door within the room, which was inconvenient. The restaurant staff accommodated us outside of regular hours, but we found the food not too good.
Clean, comfortable and convenient. Excellent value for money. Quirky characters
We arrived relatively late but were given a really good multicourse evening meal by friendly staff. Bedroom and bathroom met our needs. Free easy access carpark.
The bathroom was not tiled but it was clean and met our needs. As stated the hotel met our needs well. Some would find it basic.
Don't be fooled by the unpreposessing exterior: inside is a moderately priced but convenient and friendly hotel. We were pleased with our room (112) and the Matisse poster on the wall. The room was simply furnished, but we had everything needful, and the bathroom was above expectations.Dinner, though, was absolutely excellent, and way better than one might expect from the rather dowdy outside of the place.
The outside of the hotel really does need some work: it just looks a bit neglected - as does the garden. To be fair, Bar-le-Duc is not a town with a massive amount to offer the tourist, so to find a place so well-priced and convenient is a plus.
We booked this hotel at a very competitive price late in the day with little expectations. First impressions were that it would be of poor quality as all the communal areas were dark and in need of some refreshing. But we were pleasantly surprised with the clean room with a recently modernised bathroom. A garage was offered for my Motorbike, which again was most welcome as it was an urban area. Wine was reasonably priced and there was a secluded terrace where it could be drunk pre dinner. The dinner which was offered at 15 euros (total price) again surprised us greatly, having not great expectations at that price. Four courses with 4-5 multiple choices for each course of good wholesome well cooked food. A marvellous experience! And a sign that this was not a rarity, the dinning room was full of locals too. Well done hotel Bertrand for exceeding expectations.
A few coats of paint could brighten communal areas.
home cooked food at a reasonable price. good house wines
there could have been a greater selection at breakfast, eg cold meats.
Good value for money especially with the breakfast and a three course dinner included in the price.Family run and nice people. Made us very welcome. good lock up garage for our two motorbikes.
The hotel is very tired and needs some tlc and new investment. The nice patio area shown in the website photo is now for example run down and unappealing as are all of the outside areas. The rooms were fine for facilities but again need some refurbishment.
Really big room.
Dated decor and all bedding looked a bit dirty.
able to in the hotel room, very much snow and highway was slow due to snow reach very late. i slept well.
OWNER OF THE HOTEL
Cosy please with friendly staff..
Should try to solve the leakages as it gives a run down impression
Did not stay, would not ever stay there, would not recommend to anybody.
Outside cleanliness, food stains on the owners clothes.
