Potala Guest House

The guesthouse was right in the middle of the tourist district, and within easy walking distance of everything. The staff were friendly and helpful. We were able to leave extra bags at the guesthouse while we were on a 2 1/2 week trek (free of charge).

Our first night was extremely noisy, as it turned out that our room overlooked a very busy street. The staff were very accommodating in finding us a new room the next day, and the (modest) ncrease in price was really worth it for some good sleep.

I booked by using of Booking.com apps. I didn’t get the room which I booked. I was there for only 1hour and I left. I paid for my room and tell them to provide me check out documentation they behave bad to me. Then one of the manager said their system is down so they will send me check out documents by WhatsApp or email and I didn’t get yet. Front view is just nasty not like that. Seems so clean but it’s just a waste of money. I have paid for 1day 60$ and they said no refund possible I said I will speak booking.com.

I stayed here more than 30 years ago, before the earthquake and when I looked it up online I was delighted that it was still there. I always remembered that it was a nice place - a bit better than some of the cheaper lodges/hotels, and because I was familar with it, I booked for my daughter and I, who I was meeting there. The photos looked great and we were not disappointed. Maybe, due to the new building work that had went on, the hotel had been upgraded and in great condition. We extended our stay for an extra day and will be staying there at the end of our holiday again. The staff are lovely, very helpful and speak good English, which made every transaction and enquiry fluid.I highly recommend The Potala Guest House.

Exceptional value with delightful staff. The restaurant is a hidden gem with high-class Asian and Western food at very fair prices. The Flat White coffee is authentic, just like its and my original home: Wellington NZ!

The staff is incredible, and I felt very safe. They weee always helpful and friendly.

The madras was a little dirty, but the linen and the cleaning was perfect.

Cheating

Reception staff charged me for 4 nights instead of rightful 3 nights during my stay.very arrogant and argumentative. Very bad experience.

the property is very nice, those who are interested to feel the downtown of Thamel in terms of local markets, this location is excellent. I could just walk to various places to get a feel of Thamel.. Fairly safe. Staff has been very good, cordial and helpful. I used in drive app for local travel. This location is well-known and so had a smooth sailing experience of booking in-drive vehicles.. Did not have to do phone calls etc to explain the location. Overall, facility is nice, staff has been very good, and the location is excellent, too. It indeed is value for money. I much appreciated the staff's openness to allow be an additional hour beyond check out time. The billing was quick and hassle-free.

Kathmandu is fairly warm in May-June.. Rooms should have at least a ceiling fan. Basin the bathroom was leaking. Could be better maintained and repaired on time before assigned to guests.

Perfect location, in Thamel. You have everything within reach. Helpful and friendly staff. Highly recommended

Standard rooms are old & basic

It's beside of road & so convenient. Just door step you can find taxi. Hotel staff was good. And breakfast was acceptable.

The room I was, It was very very very bad. There was not water kettle in room. 1st they refused to provide, Later they provide. Size, linen, toiletries are very very very poor.I was in room 106 door lock was almost broken. And toilet outside lock not function well, difficult to lock.Outside sound disturbing for sleep. in middle of my stay authority offer me a another room. but i didn't change. I heard some other rooms are good and I have plan to try those rooms once and update my review. **** No Lift in this property.

The location is perfect, staff is super friendly and helpful, showers are hot, they have gallons of water on every floor, and the breakfast is high standard.

One room had a bit of cigarette smell and the place can be a bit noisy at night due to the thin windows.

TV was not working.TV remote was not there in room.No water / even no empty water bottle was there.No soap/shampoo was there in the room.Room were very noise.Except the location, everything was bed.
