Location! Incredible value, definitely reserve room and ADD breakfast option, worth every penny. In house touring desk offers private tours cater to your budget and/or destinations. Lots of restaurants around the Hotel, including roof-top ones.

The gym is NOT air-conditioned!!!

Location was convenient and the staff was very welcoming. I also enjoyed the alfresco breakfasts.

The staff were beyond helpful and kind. Great amenities! Bottled water in the room each day, an excellent breakfast with a menu of items to order off of, beautiful views of the city/courtyard, a very knowledgable instructor leading yoga each morning. We also arranged for a half-day driver to do some sightseeing around Kathmandu. I would love to stay there again and was very sad to say goodbye.

Everything. We had high expectations and the Dalai La lived up to all of them. The staff are a big part of the experience- they are warm and go above and beyond to be helpful (for example Ujjwal helped our friend sort her e-sim). The comfort is excellent and we loved the art.

The bathroom wall is a bit odd - it was glass and didn’t provide as much privacy as one might like (sound and otherwise) when using the facilities.

I stayed at Dalai-La Boutique Hotel from July 30–31, 2025, and loved every bit of it. As an American traveler, I’ve seen my share of hotels, but this place felt genuinely special. The moment I walked in, the traditional Nepalese architecture transported me—almost like being in Bhaktapur or Patan, right in the middle of Kathmandu. The courtyard was unbelievably peaceful, a quiet retreat from the bustle of Thamel, and a perfect place to unwind with a tea.The room was large, comfortable, and tastefully done with local touches that made it feel authentic without being kitschy. The food was another highlight—full of real Nepali flavors. I especially enjoyed their momo and the local-style dishes; everything was fresh and thoughtfully prepared.What truly made the stay stand out was the staff. Everyone was warm, attentive, and seemed to take pride in making sure guests felt welcome. It didn’t feel like a transactional stay—it felt personal.If you’re visiting Kathmandu and want a boutique hotel that combines heritage charm, tranquility, great food, and friendly service—especially if you’re exploring Thamel—this is a top pick. I’d happily stay here again and recommend it to anyone traveling to Nepal.

Being located in the heart of Thamel is very convenient, and this hotel offers a relaxed atmosphere compared to the busy street. An authentic Nepalese vibe, great food and friendly and accommodating staff throughout the hotel.

Cozy and cute boutique hotel. The staff was helpful and friendly. I ate at the restaurant twice and had the Thali dish both times because it was that good. They offered yoga classes but unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to go.Great location in Thamel.

Some of the traffic noise from the street in the early morning was loud.

It was a nice stay overall. However, we didn't expect the balcony to be so small in a suite. Also, I think the junior suite can be called a deluxe room, but not a suite. The bathroom was almost transparent, which we found quite strange.

Excellent location in the heart of Thamel, but with a lovely enclosed courtyard that makes you feel far from the crowds. The room, facilities, restaurant and bar all exceeded our expectations, but the real highlight was the wonderful, friendly staff, each of whom went out of their way to make us feel welcomed throughout our stay.

I loved that this quaint little hotel was in the middle of bustling Thamel, but still felt quiet and tucked away. It is filled with beautiful art and ceramics. The service and staff were lovely too. The restaurant had many options and the food tasted fresh and delicious.

My room was a steep six floors away, and the building has no lifts. My room did not have a full length mirror.

I had a wonderful stay at Dalai- la hotel the location is excellent, making it easy to explore the area. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, which added to the overall positive experience. The breakfast was very good, offering a nice variety to choose from. The hotel room was quite comfortable, providing a great night's sleep. Overall, I highly recommend

Staff were excellent.Restaurant had lovely food. 'Pra-Kash', was an excellent waiter. Very professional and receptive (he knew when to converse and when to wait). Rooms were beautifully decorated. I highly recommend the junior Suites.Centrally located.Happy hour drinks and snacks.

No lift . It didn't really bother us as the hotel was exceptional.Apart from Pra-Kash, staff hover around a bit hoping for tips but that seems common practice in India and Nepal, it just felt a little uncomfortable when you are staying as a guest.

I liked really everything, helpful and very kind staff, good food, spacious and clean rooms and a very functional gym which includes kinda of everything for the training.

My first room was quite noisy, and however the staff offered me another room further away from the street.

The hotel is in an excellent location and undoubtedly offers a very high standard compared to other hotels in the area. The breakfast is good, the rooms are spacious and luxurious, and more than anything, the staff does everything to make you feel at home.

The price of the hotel is higher than others in the area, but it is justified.
