    Pros +

    • The check in process was very good. The location is a direct observation of the town wall and aqueduct. The decor was very cool and historic. Close to restaurants.
    • The facilities are pleasant and the rooms are comfortable.
    • A beautiful hotel in a restored historic building, immaculately decorated. We had a large well-appointed room with a super comfy bed. Some nice thought touches like water in our room and afternoon snack (apples) delivered to our room. The bar area is beautiful and they had live music Saturday night. The food there was also very good and well priced.

    Cons -

    • Parking was limited and the rooms had carpet, toilet hitch is a bit dated.
    • Breakfast can be improved but but the definite downside of our stay was the prohibition of children using the jacuzzi. I can understand that for safety reasons, namely due to the high temperatures, children are not allowed in the sauna and steam room. But why prohibit the jacuzzi? We have stayed in dozens of hotels with facilities like this, and the kids were never prevented from being in the jacuzzi. Considering this is Winter and that the heated pool was cold, the family experience turned out to be a fiasco.
    • Unfortunately the hotel did not meet our expectations for a hotel of that caliber and price. To start with the toilet in the room had an awful sewage smell so bad we had to keep the bathroom door closed at all times. We also noticed the same odor in the lobby bathroom. There was also some mold in the ceiling about the shower. The shower door didn't fully close so there was no way to keep the water from spraying all over the bathroom floor. The lounge chairs in the pool area were stained with pigeon droppings so they were not properly cleaned. The pool towels were old and thin and sad looking. Finally, the breakfast was terrible. The tables were not cleaned properly. We had to request that our table be setup for service as there were no dishes or silverware. Some of the food was mostly cold when it should not have been. There was only one coffee urn for the entire breakfast area that sat at least 50-75 people.

Easy free parking across the street. Brief history of the facility was interesting and the guided layout from the staff was appreciated as this is quite a large hotel. Good breakfast including eggs cooked to order, Brie cheese as well as several other types of cheese, good jam. Coffee was brought to the table for the first round but after that no further attention from the staff even though we were one of only 2 tables in there. The quiche on the bar looked old and i did not try the pastries. The indoor pool was nice- small but quiet and clean, and my family took advantage of the steam room, sauna, and hot tub. The bed was comfortable but this was the smallest room we stayed in during our vacation.

The shower door SCREAMED LIKE A DYING ANIMAL every time you opened it, and water leaked on the floor toward the toilet. Both my husband and I skidded on it. Also I booked two massages- one of which was a relaxation massage and one which was SUPPOSEDLY a deep tissue massage which was administered by a young man with absolutely NO HAND STRENGTH. My daughter said she could feel him quivering as he tried to exert himself. Absolutely a WASTE of my extra 20€.

Ambience and comfort great. For us the best hotel in Elvas

Service at breakfast could be improved. Staff could have been more proactive

Location and the management were really helpful and also went beyond what is expected.

Unfortunately we had an unlucky stay with multiple factors contributing to this, but the management were highly understandable, and regretted it immensely and compensated us for this. This is ultimately a testemente to good service and wanting your guests to have a great stay.

Vila Galé is a very nice hotel located in a historical palace in the city centre of Elvas, just inside the city walls. It has a great location close to all attractions, monuments, bars and restaurants. The room we stayed was spacious and had all necessary comfort. Very good buffet breakfast.

    10JamesPosted on: 1-6-2025

Room was huge. The building is completely brilliant and the check in staff was exceptional.

While the meals were very very good, staff could have been a bit more attentive during my dinner and breakfast.

    6MariaPosted on: 1-6-2025

Very diverse breakfast, but lay out of the room a bit like a school canteen. Staff a bit stressed as hotel was full. Receptionists very friendly, giving a lot of hints.Good different sizes of pillows.

A/C with failures in the bedroom. Ants and little insects in the bathroom. Cold decor in the naked walls. Lounge very cold due to very high ceilings.

Very cleanNice locationOld renovated historic building

Normally Vila Gale breakfasts are better

    9LillyPosted on: 12-25-2024

The SPA facility is great. Added the value to your stay.

A bit cold in the room on December. A heater maybe better than air conditioning.

    10ChristinaPosted on: 12-21-2024

Beautiful views, modern design and friendly staff

    9JosephPosted on: 12-18-2024

    Clean, tastefully refurbished property.

The spa area became too crowded. The property in Evora managed to flow of guest use, which seemed to help.

    Building, the room

Restaurant was a shambles, we waited 30 minutes to be given a menu, another 20 minutes passed before our order was taken. The food arrived 30 minutes later, it was lukewarm.

    8ClaudiaPosted on: 12-14-2024

Sauna at 10 am not warm, jacuzzi cold, steam not working

    9RuthPosted on: 12-9-2024

A beautiful building - it was formerly a convent in a magnificent location. Views were spectacular and we enjoyed an early morning visit to the local markets for fresh fruit and bakery items. We loved the location high above the newer parts of the city. Breakfast was plentiful. Nothing was a trouble for the staff. We did not use the hotel parking as we found a park on the street right near the hotel.

I don’t like 2 single beds pushed together to make a ‘king’ bed. Someone always lies on the crack, and it was me this time!
