Pros +
- We left too early for the regular breakfast so we asked the reception for a breakfast bag and they provided it, which was very nice. The dinner was very good also, outside in the hotel garden. The hotel dogs accompanied us all along our hiking to Negoiu peak so we did not have to fear a bear encounter. This was very very nice.
- The hotel was not as high along the pass nor as secluded as we expected. It is actually possible to walk to outside restaurant. Still, it is in a beautiful setting. Some of the hotels closer to the summit have more impressive views and walks from the hotel itself. We drove from the hotel to Lake Balea in the morning. The drive takes about 20 minutes. We were able to have a nice breakfast then drive to the summit and park before things got crowded near the lake.Dinner at the hotel was good and reasonably priced. They had a nice selection. Breakfast was huge and delicious -- first class. The room was very modern, spotless and very comfortable.
- The location and the outdoor patio. Comfortable beds too.
Cons -
- The bear showed up in the evening, looking for food. Although this may look like an interesting encounter because you can make unique photos, it is not very encouraging to be aware that if you want to do an evening walk around the premise, you may face the bear! However, I must say that the three dogs belonging to the hotel did they job and successfully chased the bear away.
- Parking was a little challenging. The hotel was recently expanded. Some of the new rooms are comfortable but not completely finished. There were some loose wires, switches not connected, but most importantly a temporary railing on the balcony that might be dangerous for some families. These are things worth mentioning. They were really not issues for us.
- The fact that someone told me they have a place where they feed the bears. But ai didn't see it, just heard about it.

The cleaness, the breakfast, the big bad. It looks expensive at the first look, but it deserves the money.
The fact that someone told me they have a place where they feed the bears. But ai didn't see it, just heard about it.
Beautiful location surrounded by woods and mountains — a truly peaceful escape. The staff were wonderful, the food (both breakfast and dinner) was amazing, and everything was very clean. Parking was available and easy. The only downsides: the shower was a bit small, and there was no AC. That said, the weather was nice and cool, so it wasn’t really needed — I just personally prefer sleeping with AC.
Small shower/bathroom and no AC but wasnt hot at all(actually it rained) but I love sleeping with the AC on.
The sorroundings are amazing. Right in the middle of the forest, nice stream next to the hotel.
It is not a real 3 stars hotels, it is more like a hostel. It is the most expensive hotel in our 8 days trip in Romania and the worst quality one.Insulation is quite poor, we could hear the noise from the rooms around us. Also, there is a big leak in the shower that makes the floor damp. Rooms need urgent renovation, there in no A/C or heating during summer time, it was rainy and cold during our stay, no extra blanket either. No elevator either. There was a group convention during our stay and the music was quite loud. Don't go there if you are looking for experiencing the quietness of nature. It is a shame because the location is extraordinary. It would be OK for a hostel but not for a 87 euro a night hotel.
Camera curata, patutl confortabil, mic dejun bogat si gustos.
The location is beautiful. We had booked the apartment as we had a small baby with us. The surroundings of the hotel are very nice. The staff hired there is amazing! Very attentive and smiling.
The couch was not very comfortable to sleep on and the bathroom had a smell sometimes (was coming from the pipes). A big disadvantage was the fact that there’s no mosquito net at any of the windows so you basically cannot keep the window open at all. In the night was really hot and there s no a/c.
The comfortable bed and amazing location with views of natural beauty. Brisk and fresh, we loved every minute. The staff were helpful and kind. We can't wait to come back one day. The food was delicious and the drinks were perfect. My two year old ate almost all of his delicious chicken soup, perfect for the cool weather outside. I can't say enough good things, this stay was amazing!
Everything was great.
Beautiful location close to Balea lake. Spacious room and warm breakfast included. Everyone was super attentive and nice, specially the young man and girl at the reception.
Everything was perfect.
Our stay at this hotel was absolutely fantastic! The location is unbeatable, right on the iconic Transfagarasan road it was the perfect place to relax and enjoy the views. What truly stood out was the restaurant — the food was incredible! Every "a la carte" meal was a delight with fresh ingredients, rich flavors and beautifully presented dishes. We were always impressed by the quality and variety. The staff were friendly and attentive and the overall atmosphere was warm and welcoming.Highly recommended for anyone traveling through the area — we would definitely return!
It would be a great improvement to have windows nets installed especially during the warmer months to keep the insects out of the rooms.
Location, new room, nice staff
Restaurant was a hit on the high price. But well, what to expect in the middle of the Mountain..
Staff and location.
Hotel is under construction. So called room with a mountain view is a terrace with a view on the heavy machinery. Door locking system not functioning properly so we had to change the room to a different one. Food was not good. And let me tell you. Im a person that can eat almost everything and for the first time in my life I had to just leave the whole dish. Polenta was dry and seemed old. Lamb pastrami... I don't even know how to express the taste. It was awful. Too bad because people were very nice and helpful but to be fair I need to write this as it was. Oh and one thing: this is not a case of "he is not Romanian so he does not know how the food should taste like". Just saying.
The meat at the restaurant, tried to find similar meat elsewhere in Bulgaria bc we really loved it and couldn’t. The guy speaking English working for the hotel is really nice and friendly. We hope one day to come back
The view was beautiful. The food was 8/10.The staff was friendly.
Room wasn't ready when we arrived. We waited with 2 kids 30 minutes in hall.
My wife booked this location so I could take the kid to play in the snow. I was not disappointed. The hotel had plenty of snow around it, and it also had a sleigh slope right behind it, including night illumination. The kid loved our little trip, and that's what mattered the most.Overall, the hotel was clean, and the staff was super friendly and nice. I would definitely return. The price was also acceptable given the period of the year and that it included breakfast.
The furniture is a bit outdated, and there was a pretty bad smell in the bathroom. I'm not sure where it was coming from, but the ventilation in the bathrooms isn't working very well. The breakfast was ok, but if you stay for more than one day, expect to eat the same breakfast daily.
