    Pros +

    • The room was spacious, clean and well lit. I loved the details- slippers tucked into the wall, the bathroom was spacious and modern, the desk alcove was perfect to spread out and sort our maps/papers, and the open closet offered more room to spread our luggage out. For two adults trying to air out our clothing from our bike ride, a couple of extra hangers would have been appreciated (they had 5). The light controls by the bed was convenient and the floor lighting was perfect if you happen to wake up in the middle of the night. Bonus was the free beverages in the fridge (water, OJ, and one bottle of Lemon Ale) per person. The view was towards the parking lot but the sliding doors covered it and made it feel more traditional so we didn't mind. The best part is the free onsen on site for guests to use as frequently as you want. Additionally, there was an event room that had massage equipment for the upper torso that we were able to use at no cost. It was a perfect spot after riding part of the Shimanami route. The staff were extremely helpful and kind even though we were limited in conversing. We kept our bikes in the parking lot which was safe. I would definitely recommend staying here!
    • Location was fantastic and a welcoming stay during our bike trip. The staff were lovely and helpful. The room was fantastic and even allowed us keep our bikes in it. Loved the onsen.
    • Location, staff very helpful and friendly, room extra spacious and bed enormous.

    Cons -

    • I would have enjoyed having a small breakfast offering with coffee in the lounge. Our room was quite warm and would have appreciated a better way to cool it down.
    • Rather expensive accommodation
    • I wanted to love staying here, but for over $350 USD’s for one night, and one person, I just could not justify the negatives. Off the rip, you can’t check in until 4pm. So after hours of cycling - you have to walk around for a few hours before you can shower & relax. The “onsen” is a hot bath, and it’s very very small for a public bath and not really that great. Doesn’t even have free lotion or q-tips (which is nuts for a bath people pay to use). The coffee & tea provided is nice, but there is zero sugar, cream, or spoons. I went to check out the “office” area and it’s a wide open room, no snacks, no drinks -despite what was advertised- and the massagers didn’t even have remotes rendering them useless. The shower had mold on the bottom seal. The “unlimited minibar” had only two beers, two OJ’s, and two waters, not even one notorious Lemon Chu-hi. The NOISE! For such a quiet town, I could hear every single noise from the 2nd floor & entrance. Stomping every few seconds, over and over, talking as well through the walls. Everyone who went to use the bath, I heard walk in & out… It was so incredibly loud and distracting!! No TV, very large steps (which probably contribute to the stomping above me), no covered or secure parking for a bike, the floors are plywood, no option for AC minus a door that slide open 3 inches, no food… So for a place that is all about serenity & peacefulness, it was noisy & distracting. Honestly, my previous stay in Onimochi was 1/8th the cost with FAR better amenities to include a robe, face lotion, breakfast, snacks, and quality coffee supplies. It was also next to the train station & I couldn’t hear the train once.

Good things: the single towel provided was soft, the mugs are incredibly well crafted & I actually want to buy some at a home goods store, the staff is very very kind and professional, nice Toto toilet, the canvas bag to take your bath supplies to the bath is well crafted.

    Location and amenities

Old building rebuilt lacking noise proofing. Heard everyone walking down the stairs and directly above you.

The property is beautiful and well maintained. Our room was very large with comfortable futon mattresses. We had a separate area with a table and tatami mats and cushions which we used for eating snacks and relaxing. The community bath was exquisite - clean, several separate baths, and a large gorgeous mosaic made the area very calming and luxurious. The staff were very kind and accommodating.

Beautiful place to stay with its own onsen. And close proximity to small shops and good restaurants.

Yubune is in a modern building that is architecturally sympathetic to the traditional building style. It is modern and clean. The room was spotless, well designed and comfortable. The shower was good. There's a large room where you can cook and eat. Drop coffee and tea was provided in the room and soft drinks in the fridge were complimentary.

There was no breakfast offer although a hotel a minute walk away has a cafe that opened at 7:30 am.

staff were very accommodating. they allowed us to leave our baggage ahead of the check-in time. since it was also raining, they allowed us to "park" our ebikes inside our room which was spacious enough. bonus was the onsen!

    nothing comes to mind

The beds were super comfy. There was amazing high quality juice, coffee and tea in the room. The onsen was amazing and so nice to be able to walk to it in the clothes they provide in your room.

Unfortunately when we went in early April only one restaurant in town was open. The front desk had an amazing list of places with a map to help, but their English was very limited and they didn’t understand when I said all of them were closed for some reason. The lack of restaurants is something people should know when traveling to Onomichi during cherry blossom season. The town was essentially shut down during the week and yubune does not have a restaurant attached. SOIL across the street had one open but only open to guests on Wednesdays.

Lovely and clean, good sized rooms, beautiful onsen, great location

We were hot and wanted to use the air conditioning but we were told it was not possible so I was uncomfortable trying to sleep. The staff had to unlock the window with a key which is weird. I made sure to ask in advance if the hotel could ship our bags same day to Matsuyama. They said yes but then when it came time to ship the bags they said it wouldn’t arrive until the next morning and they did not apologise for the wrong information and I had to request that they help me find a way to get it there same day (which they eventually did but they certainly didn’t offer in the first place. It was also almost double the cost)

Stylish and spacious room with comfortable beds and a great shower. Access to bathhouse and sauna. Staff were friendly and helpful. A nice touch that the room had a smart speaker.

The onsen was wonderful after a fun day of biking. The complementary drinks were generous and refreshing. Would highly recommend yubane.

Absolutely beautiful property and the highlight of our Japan trip. High quality amenities with a touches of luxury throughout. Loved the bath house! We found enough great food options close by for our night stay. Can’t wait to return one day.

The welcome was friendly & helpful. The bedroom was very big & beautiful & the onsen was great after cycling for the day.

    9StevePosted on: 3-17-2025

The staff was extremely welcoming. Loved the location, a short walk from the waterfront and near cafes and the rest of the town. Nice facilities in the room: coffee, teapot, fridge.

The spa alternates days between men and women so one gender can miss out during a short stay like ours.

Very clean modern Japanese style hotel. Fantastic staff. Great hot baths with sauna and cold pool. Breakfast at a nice cafe which is only 50m away

Slept like a log in our gorgeous peaceful room with simple Japanese styling and well designed pale wood interior. Onsen was fab and spotlessly clean. Kind staff helped us forward our baggage to next hotel. Had outstanding dinner and breakfast at SOIL Setoda.
