About
Step back in time and experience the charm of a bygone era at Coolangatta Estate, a restored convict-built Village nestled among rolling vineyards in Shoalhaven Heads. Life here moves at a gentler pace - there is no Wi-Fi, mobile reception can be limited, and accommodations is set within original, older motel-style buildings - making this a stay best suited to guests who appreciate heritage character and a slower way of life. This historic estate is just a short drive from Seven Mile Beach (2 minutes) and the charming town of Berry (10 minutes), with Kangaroo Valley and Jervis within easy reach for day trips. Accommodations consists of individually configured rooms within historic motel buildings, meaning each room varies in size, layout and outlook. All rooms are air-conditioned and include a TV with limited free-to-air channels, a basic kitchenette with mini-bar fridge, tea and coffee facilities, a desk, ironing amenities and a private bathroom. Guests can unwind with a game of croquet on the lawn, enjoy a hit on the tennis court, or take part in a wine tasting at the cellar door (bookings recommended). BBQ facilities are available for relaxed outdoor dining (additional fee), while Berry township offers a wide selection of cafés and restaurants just minutes away. If you're looking to escape the rush, disconnect from modern distractions and enjoy a peaceful stay in a truly historic setting, Coolangatta Estate offers a unique and memorable experience.

Pros +
- Excellent location with historical convict cottages, modern bathroom and comfortable beds and furniture. Beautiful grounds around the vineyard.
- Felt like a horror movie
- We stayed in the cottage, which was devided into 6 separate "hotel rooms". Our "room" was spacious, propably had originally been two rooms. We were unlucky for the weather - although end of Nov, it was a cold and rainy day. Therefore not possible to enjoy the lovely areas of the estate. Cellar door was open and we enjoyed wine flights indoors. This was an old convict build house - so we had a gekko as pet in the room - when we tried to approach it, it used a small hole in the well to escape outside ;)
Cons -
- No ubers here in the evening if you want to get to shoalhaven heads for a meal or supermarket etc. On site restaurant is not 24/7 but sometimes this is a good thing you want to really switch off and disconnect
- We booked a two night stay however, we ended up leaving about 1 hour after initially getting our keys due to feeling unsafe in the accommodation. When we arrived, there was no one working reception so we picked up our key from a lockbox, in which the key was left lying out and not locked. Soon after arriving we realized there not a single car, lights on, or any other residents staying the night as this estate that has a decent number of rooms. This made us weary as we are two young women who did not feel safe being the only ones in this area away from a main town. Our worries were heightened when one group showed up about 30 minutes after us and found their room unlocked, the bed unmade, and generally lived in. They came to ask us for help and were unable to get into the lockbox or contact anyone for help. We tried to help them by calling the reception phone number, emergency phone number, and number listed on google from our australian number and from the other couple’s american number and received no response from any call. The number listed on the lockbox was not even a real number. They eventually left and told us we should too as it “seemed like a horror movie scene.” Because of the lack of security around and due to there being no other people around at all we felt super weary and decided to leave too. When we explained what happened to the estate they refused to refund and offered zero apologies or remorse for the situation.
- The bathroom was very clean, no visible stains, but somewhere, maybe in the structure, there was mould groving. One of us is allergic for mould. Luckily, no problem, if we kept the bathroom door closed.

Extremely run down resort someone needs to give this place a total overhaul and clean it up. It’s sad it has a lot of potential.
Dirty old and run down needs new clean furniture and a big cleanup I can’t believe they even rent these rooms out ! I want. Refund !
I have been here a hand full of times. I love this place feel takes me back to yester year. Everytime it's a new experience. Do not look for luxury but embrace it authenticity. Beautifully maintained gardens , wake up to serenity. The beach is also 5 min down the road.
Pool area could be better maintained
The quiet country outlook was spectacular. Historical place with grape vines everywhere. Resturant on site for lunch only and a beautiful wine cellar door available.
Need a car for town in the day and a courtesy bus is available at the local club for dinner.
So bad, I had to find immediate accommodation elsewhere, on my own wedding weekend.
Everything. Ants in my room. Dishes not cleaned with coffee still in cups. Floor horrible quality. No Wifi. So bad, I had to find immediate accommodation elsewhere, on my own wedding weekend.
The property provides a unique stay as the original estate building ( stables, blacksmith shop etc) have been converted into rooms. The grounds are beautiful and well taken care of.
My room, specifically, was a stable converted room and the original door has been kept. The issue was that the door has a gap at the top as well as a glass pane which have no curtain or covering. I kept waking up as the light shines directly onto the bed.Overall cleanliness was good but the ceiling had several spider webs.
The country feel and beautiful views. Quietness and lovely history
The room needed a spring clean. cobwebs on the ceiling, blood on doona.
Quiet location Privacy
No teaspoons in the room Bathroom very awkward to use with the toilet and basin so close
Unique historical buildings that offered a trip back in time. Peaceful country location but only 20 mins drive to many ammenities from shops to restaurants, beaches to river.
Limited food options - restaurant and winery only opened for lunch
Lovely property, nice to walk down from the rooms to get wine and food during day
Walls are quite thin, could clearly hear the neighbours on each side talking
Charming atmosphere LocationLoved the refurbishment if historic bldgs
Aircon too cool
Chill spot with awesome vineyard views. Super cozy stay, perfect for a relaxing getaway with good wine, fresh air, and vibes.
There was no dinner restaurant open at the accommodation but we had no trouble booking a ride through a local restaurant car shuttle was fast and the foods really really good.
The room was spacious and open to a beautiful scene and nature. The bed was comfy and the bathroom was big and clean.
Cockroaches crawling in the kitchen at night made me uncomfortable about the kitchen's cleanliness.Behind the bedside were spider webs.
The location was excellent and the ambience of the property also what I expected.
It would have been good to have charging ports available as you don’t have reception facilities and the shops were away.I know it’s our responsibility to carry them but as it is essential nowadays it would have been better to have it available in the room.
Quiet location amongst nature.
The Stables accommodation was very dark.
The toilet cleaning brush was broken as was the kettle (a part was rolling around the bottom of the kettle). Getting in and out of the front door was difficult, was jammed.
quiet nice location, comfortable room with kitchenette
Clean tidy room. Friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful location. Well maintained gardens and surrounding areas. Interesting conversion from a homestead to accommodation and winery.
