Rata Lodge Accommodation

Otira is a very small community and my partner and I spent one night at Rata Lodge while passing through Arthur's Pass from Lake Tekapo to Franz Josef. We stayed in an ensuite room and we were warmly welcomed by Vicki and her partner.

No. Out of the accommodation options available in Otira, we are glad we stayed at Rata Lodge and appreciated the hospitality.

Very good bed, spacious room and bathroom, a little terrace, well equiped kitchen, clean, very nice and friendly hosts, good internet connection. I'm very glad we stayed here.

Everything was great.

The best part was meeting the hosts and the other guests! The room was lovely. The bed and pillows were super comfy.

Lovely host. They understand what the visitors want and organize there property provide maximum comfort and value . They take extra effort to explain visitors about attractions in the local area. I felt like my own family .

Beautiful setting. Bright, spacious room. Large, well equipped kitchen and common area for meeting other travelers. The property is very well maintained with terrific, helpful hosts.

Great host, Vikki and Gerard. Lovely room although slightly small. Clean bathroom. Nice environment.

Difficult to get in and out of property. High speed road beside property

Property is super cute, clean, has everything you need and the sweetest hosts! We slept in a warm bed, clean room, bathroom, house and chilled at a lovely porch overlooking the mountain. Vikki and Gerard are incredible, they shared with us delicious homemade blueberry muffins and without us asking shared a bit of cash with us, what a lovely gesture! (we weren’t able to get cash from the ATM when we got here). Just the best hosts.

The alpine location was a unique experience. The hosts werePleasant and sharing of their property and area

Amazing couple. Plain and simply stated “just great genuine people “. So welcoming and gave us great suggestions on what to do in the area. Older place but very clean and beautifully restored. They had our electric blankets turned on and toasty warm for our sleep!

A little tight driving in but no big deal!

Super clean and welcomed warmly. The towels and linens smells nice and fluffy kitchen has everything including coffee, tea and milk. Our room was just beside the kitchen and common area so we were bit worried if other guests stayed late or noisy but everyone just cooked their dinner and went back to their room so it was a nice and quiet night. Stayed 2 nights with no issues!! Left early morning both 2 days so hardly see any other guests very comfortable and quiet. The accommodation is located at next to the highway. we could here car and train goes at the night time but it’s not that busy road during the night so nothing really matters. I’m a light sleeper but after a long trekking… the noise didn’t really bother me.

Vicky and Brendan our hosts couldn't have been more welcoming. Their lodge was warm and welcoming and the bed extremely comfortable. The common area was clean and had everything we needed.

Very clean place, cosy private room with a pretty garden view. The kitchen was very clean and had everything we needed. Friendly welcoming hosts.

The owners were very friendly and welcoming. Our room had all the comforts we needed for our stay. Enjoyed the heater in the room and the cosy bed with an electric blanket, all made for a good night's sleep. We would definitely stay again!

Lovely big communal area, chatted to other guests. Owners personally greeted us and showed us around.

Well this was a surprise. Don’t be put off by the exterior as it is a work in progress. The inside is comfortable and clean. Not 5 star but remember the location. Great stop for exploring Arthurs Pass and all the walks in the area. Vicki and Gerard were fantastic hosts during our stay. Very knowledgeable on the area with some good advice. Highly recommend Rata for a stay in this location.

Clean room and shared facilities, comfy beds, nice hosts

The driveway to the parking area is narrow. You have to have good driving skill to get through :)The shower head is not easy to adjust. We would suggest that the shower head does not go through the handrail for flexibility during showers.

The host was very warm and helpful. It was a great experience with comfortable accommodation and excellent value for money.

The two rooms we booked were quite small and located far apart

Vikki and Gerard were lovely hosts, very welcoming and helpful. I had an issue with my car they helped me resolve. If you're thinking of booking don't hestitate, this is one of the nicest places I've ever stayed!
