Hotel Playa Marina

Nothing to recommend this hotel if you have any other choice.

Awful, terrible, photos used must have been 50 years old. Dirty, smelly and that was just the reception area. Clerk said she found our reservation but asked for payment (again) and as we'd paid when we made our reservation, I wasn't about to pay again.

Waited almost 2 hours in line to check in

The location was good and the hotel was mostly OK.

No Ice. We had a suite with a kitchen but there were no dishes or utensils. The first night of our stay there was a Mexican "Bando" group that played their music until 1AM right over our bedroom.

Staff was friendly & cooperative. Communication through Booking.com was very inefficient and quite frustrating. PrePayment process in person 2 weeks prior to check in was somewhat onerous as person did not speak English. However our requests were honoured and all staff was cordial - especially gentleman looking after storage of all our luggage and security staff overseeing the safety of our Oversize rental van was excellent. The hotel is well-situated and convenient. However it is very dated and facilities are run down. Water seepage caused a significant flood in the bedroom of one unit. Fridges are practically useless. The beds are like burial slabs they are so hard. Also unfortunate that you have no restaurant or even a cafe for guests to eat in. But we appreciated the economical price of this budget accommodation as we required 3 rooms for our extended family and that the prices were not hyper-inflated due to the eclipse as they were everywhere else.

Pool should be heated. Fridges need replacing. Beds are terrible. Storage of luggage until check in time needs to be more secure & better organized. See previous comments.

The staff for the breakfast was very polite and demonstrated kindness. The ocean view from the room is nice as well, if you have that choice.

The check-in and check-out both proved to be unprofessional from start to even after I left. There was no one at the desk when I arrived. When he did arrive, he was pleasant, but incapable of checking me in. Though he said he could see my reservation in his system, he still wanted and had me to pull up my information on my phone. He charged me, and apparently forgot to add something that they didn't even tell me when I was checking out. The check-out woman was extremely rude and allowed other guests to cut me in line. She would not answer my question and seems to have not told me they were charging me more. She did not give me a check-out receipt when I asked her, and I received a message after departing that they would like for me to pay more (from what they forgot and I though I ASKED them about it to double check without being answered, but instead, dismissed by the receptionist.) There was a loud buzzing in the room during the duration of my stay. The room key didn't work and I kept having to go downstairs to get a new one each time I left. The bed is hard, if you like that kind of thing. The wifi doesn't work, so beware if you are trying to get online for work or any other reason.
