Pros +
- Great location, Food was beautiful, Staff were brilliant. The hotel is beautiful garden is gorgeous
- This is an amazing property that works very hard to please their guests (as most Shangri La hotels do). I was here recently and Zoe from the hospitality staff was amazing. She learned it was my birthday and arranged a complimentary cake, inviting the friends I was traveling with, altogether a pleasant surprise
- Breakfast or meal in restaurant is OK, but it would even better if there is more option for halal food. The staff is incredibly friendly attentive and care. English speaking staff is very helpful for us who didn't speak Chinese.
Cons -
- Minim facility for kids. Less option for late night room service dining.
- Button floor numbers in the elevator are barely visible. Some staffers do not speak English.
- Unfortunately, our experience at Shangri-La Beijing did not meet expectations. While the hotel has a good reputation, several issues made our stay frustrating. The biggest problem was the air conditioning in the room. It was fixed at 24°C, making the room uncomfortably warm, and there was no way to adjust it, despite two visits from their engineers to 'fix' the problem. We requested a room change, but the new room had the same issue, which made it difficult to sleep comfortably.Service was another major letdown. While some staff were initially polite, we noticed a clear change in attitude when we spoke English—they became less interested and less willing to assist. It felt as though English-speaking guests were not given the same level of service, which was disappointing. Check-in was slow, and communication was difficult. The dining experience was also disappointing. We had booked the seafood and lobster dinner, but when I requested a salmon sashimi at the sushi station, the chef made an annoyed face, which was unprofessional and uncomfortable. For a high-end hotel, we expected better service and a more welcoming attitude from the dining staff. The room, although spacious, felt outdated, and cleanliness was not up to the standard expected from a Shangri-La hotel. There are no tea and coffee in the room. Housekeeping was inconsistent, with amenities not always replenished. Additionally, despite the hotel's luxurious branding, certain areas felt in need of renovation.Overall, for the price and prestige of Shangri-La, we expected much better service, comfort, and hospitality. Sadly, we would not choose to stay here again.

Variety of breakfast items to choose. Quiet and spacious room.

The property is easily accessible by Beijing Metro subway line. Close to food shops.

It’s old and requires maintenance
My initial room #1717 had a problem in the security box, also toilet was dripping water overnight and that kept me from falling in sleep.
I think Chris Lam at concierge was a wonderful help. He was responsible, diligent, efficient and effective. I want to commend him for the help he extended to me in getting a taxi on 2 mornings. I appreciated it deeply.
Nothing. i wish i had a bit more time to properly enjoy the hotel's facilities.
Seemed really friendly, fantastic staff. They made us feel welcome and were patient with our lack of language skills. We felt very welcome and made us enjoy our time in beijing. The service received was outstanding along with all amenities provided for.
Only thing is we came back to late for the good room service menu. Would have loved to see Chinese food on the late night menu. However the food we had was very enjoyable.
Breakfast is very good with plenty of choices. The only issue is that sometime we have to wait until a table is available.
I found a laundry room in a hotel nearby which is very helpful for me. I went there to wash and dry my clothes several times. It is more guest friendly.
Stuff very helpfull. Wecstayed with a kid and in the room there were a little robe, slippers, tooth brush etc and even a step stool for the little one.Very thoughtful!
This is an exceptional hotel that is perfect for business visitors to Beijing. It has high standards of accommodation and offers many options for food and restuarants. It is a 5 star service.
The lobby bar is a non-event, you can sit there forever and never be served - if you actively chase service you may get yourself a drink but no one will follow that up. It's best to find somewhere else to meet people.
The hotel, whose name initially caught my attention, ultimately proved to be a letdown. From the onset, my experience was soured during check-in when I was informed of an unexpected 2000 RMB deposit requirement. This upfront demand for payment felt unwelcoming and set a negative tone for the stay.Unfortunately, the disappointment didn't end there. Post-checkout, the process to refund the balance of my 4000 RMB deposit has been frustratingly slow, displaying a stark contrast to the hotel's alacrity in collecting fees. Such inefficiency is unacceptable, especially in the hospitality industry where trust and customer satisfaction should be paramount. As someone who travels frequently and values smooth, transparent transactions with lodging establishments, I find it difficult to recommend this hotel. The lack of promptness in handling financial matters, combined with an overall lacklustre experience, has left me thoroughly disillusioned. Future guests should be wary of these potential inconveniences.
The hotel was used a base for our sizeable delegation to China and the help for the concierge with arranging all the necessary logistics was simply perfect/first class, especially given the challenges of using western payment systems in China. The room was a great size and contained everything needed (and more) for a business trip with excellent desk and lighting. The food in the hotel is superb and caters to almost every need and taste.
My visit to the Shangri-La was made considerably more enjoyable thanks to the exceptional service provided by the hotel's ground staff. Notably, the concierge distinguished himself by attentively listening to my concerns regarding the uncomfortably high temperature in my room. He demonstrated outstanding customer service by going above and beyond to arrange for an engineer to rectify the air conditioning issue, and he efficiently organised a taxi to the airport for me. This proactive approach was a refreshing contrast to being advised to simply open a window for ventilation, which is hardly a solution one expects after investing in a premium room. Additionally, the bellboy was commendable for his attentive demeanour and earnest efforts to communicate and assist, despite the language barrier. His dedication greatly contributed to the overall positive aspects of my stay. It was indeed the diligent and caring ground crew, including the bellboy and concierge, who were the unsung heroes of my experience at the hotel.
During my recent hotel visit, I encountered several disappointments that significantly impacted my overall satisfaction. Firstly, I was taken aback by the requirement to pay a substantial security deposit of 2000 Yuan upon check-in, a detail that was not previously disclosed nor put on the fine print of the Booking.com website. This issue was further complicated when I made an online reservation for an additional night, which necessitated a second deposit of the same amount. These important factors should be advertised so that it doesn't cause issues of additional costs upon check-in. As of now, I have yet to receive a refund for these charges, which is quite troubling. Additionally, I faced challenges with the room's climate control; the air conditioning was ineffective. Despite reaching out to the front desk for assistance, the only solution offered was to open the windows—a suggestion that fell short of my expectations for such a well-regarded establishment. In summary, my experience was far from impressive.
Great place to stay. Friendly staff who helped me by lending a HDMI cable. Clean rooms. Comfortable beds. Great inner garden. Good swimming pool.
As hotel guest, we have to register a second time to access the pool. It's a waste of time.
Amazing breakfast, pool and facilities. Brilliant service.
Upgraded to a suite room. The views are amazing. Live music was a nice touch.
The price can be a little more competitive.
we like the breakfast and the location. Though the facility is not very new but the room is comfortable and cosy. we enjoyed living there!
This is an exceptional hotel which offers guests beautiful facilities. The rooms are outstanding and among the most comfortable and stylish rooms you will find. Guest services are outstanding and the staff will quickly accommodate any requests and are keen to meet your needs. The ground floor buffet restuarant offers excellent service and great food options.
WIFI connection was via a website page which was not easy to navigate and didn't work for us. The in-house restuarants are world class but out of the price range of an average business traveller. Service in the lobby bar area was too slow or non-existant. The bar area closes late evening around 10~11pm.
Friendly staff and good value for money. Beautiful garden which is rare among other star hotels.
Buffet restaurant too crowded during breakfast time
