    Pros +

    • Staff was friendly and helpful
    • I was very impressed with the internet.
    • Decently run hostel with a good community of guests, had no issues with the accomodation in terms of organisation. Staff were professional and quick to help with any problems. Great location (can't stress this enough, walking distance from the CBD, Carlton, Fitzroy nightlife, etc) and a large sized building, so a lot of space to socialise and relax. No issue with extending the booking from the front desk, which is always a relief. Accom is cheap for what they're offering and well worth the money for people seeking short or long term lodging. I've stayed and worked at much shoddier places that were charging out the ear with none of the perks of the Nunnery, so take advantage of this place when you're staying in the city.

    Cons -

    • There were no rules about noise after hours so it was impossible to have a restful night...just awful. Rooms were only barely cleaned once a week so, considering the daily traffic, it was always dirty and smelled bad
    • Normal issues with basically any hostel, noise from guests and some issues of hygiene due to the amount of people being housed at any given time (they have cleaners working every day so it's more the nature of the beast with your common backpackers than a fault of the staff or management).
    • Small dirty rooms (the one downstairs next backyard at least) with a small dirty bathroom attached. The aggressive receptionist who comes and pull you out of bed if you’re 5mn late to check out, on top the hostile personal note on your door to remind you to check out.

Great location. Beautiful old building. Quite “cheap” for Melbourne.

    SHowers and toilets were clean.

Earlier than 8am Access to the Kitchen for early risers and those that start work early to make breakfast and coffee would have been nice!

    Across road from park

    Noisey. Bathrooms unclean.

The vibe of the hostel was amazing, they really went with the "Nunnery" theme and it was really fun. I was here in July, so it was off season and quiet. I prefer that, and I still met awesome people despite there not being many. Staff were incredibly friendly, was very clean. I got a free upgrade which was sweet. It's also located in Fitzroy so awesome if you are queer as this the gayborhood of Melbourne.

The kitchen does close in the afternoon for two hours and at night. But there's another location you can keep your food.

A beautiful old building in a wonderful location in the heart of Melbourne.

The architecture of the place is really nice. Lot’s of nice views.

Unfortunately there was some other guests that didn’t respected the silence time after 10PM and were loud taking even after 1AM.

The tram at the doorstep was handy and the beds were comfy.

The noise, the backpackers sleeping in common areas, the smoking and drinking just about everywhere and at anytime, the cost, the lack of water pressure, and the lack of cleanliness.

    3SusanPosted on: 12-27-2025

It was on the edge of the CBD, right across from a tram stop.

It was a maze of corridors and stairs with not enough bathrooms and toilets.

    9BrianPosted on: 12-12-2025

Great location. No mature age restrictions

No complaints. It's a backpackers, not the Ritz.

The staff are friendly and helpful. For the size of the property & the amount of guests the hostel was severely understaffed.

The property is a lovely old building, that is in disrepair & needs renovating. The shovers in the communal bath rooms were missing shower screens or the glass was cracked all the way across. The water pressure ment it was either a boiling hot or freezing cold shower. After a rainy night the roof had leaked and there was wet plaster on the floor. The noise was terrible, in the ground floor of the hostel and on the front steps a party raged well into the night. This is a residential area, I am surprised the people that live either side of the hostel have not made noise complaints.

    3MurphyPosted on: 11-22-2025

The staff were friendly, the building was beautiful.

As a catholic I found the overwhelming mockery of the blessed mother and the faith to be extremely offensive, distasteful, out of touch and ultimately cringe. Wouldn't stay again.

    8RonniePosted on: 11-20-2025

My stay didn't include breakfast. But plenty of storage and good facilities. In future I may upgrade to single bedroom.

False fire alarm. I still witnessed two residents, the guys (they spoke French) smoked early at 5am at the first floor balcony. I was surprised tge door was opened. I was irritation by the cigarettes smoke and unpleasant smell that lingered in the corridor. Not fair to other guests. Particularly those at sleep.

    8BorréPosted on: 11-16-2025

Pretty cheap, close to a lot of bars, to the centre. To tramline. Still in a chill neighbourhood though! The building itself is pretty cool. And the park next to it has possums at night! Which apparently, only I liked haha

Not very clean, some people stay too long and lose themselves there a bit... Quite a few unhappy people who stayed in bed the whole day. So the vibe was very mixed. Sometimes cool chill social people. Sometimes just kinda depressed and no one talked

    1KameliaPosted on: 11-10-2025

    The location was good

It was literally raining inside the room Dormitories were so so so loud, impossible to sleep even at the third floor where I had my double room. Cherry on the top all the water coming from the roof.

    1MarkPosted on: 10-27-2025

Staff member was nice. Location splendid.

Open substance use. Bathroom flooded when it rained which wasn’t safe. I was there less than an hour before I walked upstairs to my room when there was substance use happening on the premisis so I asked to check out and get a refund and left. Still have not been contacted about refund even though I called again the next day

Cool vibe, felt safe and secure, free luggage storage was super helpful. 11am check out also helpful. Amazing location, nice staff. Clean. Will stay again.
