Mercure Hotel Muenchen Altstadt

We had NO idea such a great and affordable hotel was located where this one was. We thought it was located outside the Marienplatz perimeter in a questionable part of Munich, but it was only steps away from the Glockenspiel and the S-Bahn! Beautiful too!

Excellent staff particularly in reception, Good breakfast, Great Location in the center of town. I specifically selected the hotel based on its location and it did not disapoint.

There is only a single elevator that is used by all guests and the house staff. I found myself having to wait for extended periods with mu luggage when leaving. The street outside was a little noisy until quite late but overall teh hatel was very quiet.Room temperature control was a little bit of an issue. I ended up with the windows open and the radiators on full blast not exactly environmentally friendly.

The hotel was under renovation while staying there.The toilet stopped working and they had nobody to fix it during the weekend, had to get another room from the hotel on the next day.

The location is excellent, just one block from Marienplatz. The breakfast buffet was a highlight—honestly one of the biggest ranges of options we’ve ever seen, with a fresh orange juice machine and great coffee. A really impressive touch was the complimentary minibar in the room (Augustiner beers, soft drinks, and water). We booked two rooms and were very pleased that they placed us right next to each other. The rooms felt recently renovated, clean, and had very comfortable beds.

Honestly, not much. There was some minor street noise in the early morning (trucks etc.), but it wasn't a major issue. Half the hotel was under renovation during our stay (Jan 2026), but it was quiet and didn't impact us at all.

Location was great, just a couple of mins walk from Marienplatz. The drinks in the mini bar is a nice touch and very much appreciated. Good breakfast selection.

On double bed there were 2 single duvets which seemed a bit strange but I survived lol

friendly staff and checked me in early and quickly - give you free drinks included all day and a huge breakfast - very nice people

The hotel is ideally located about a block from the Christmas market. The room I had was for a single. Small but comfortable and sound insulated. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent.

Comfortable accommodations in a great location. The breakfasts were delicious and varied, and there was daily cleaning. The bathroom was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the heating was adjustable, which was very convenient. I also liked the large heated towel rail in the bathroom, which is very helpful during winter. Thank you very much for a wonderful stay and the comfort provided. We look forward to returning again when we come to Munich. The entire staff was excellent, from reception, cleaning staff, and the kitchen staff. I recommend it to anyone planning a trip to Munich.

A very small problem - the tissue box in the bathroom kept falling off the wall. The fasteners in room 314 were probably broken, but this is not a big deal!

The rooms were very clean and spacious with individual duvets on the double bed. The bathroom was a good size and had everything that was needed for a pleasant stay. The location was brilliant as it was within walking distance of the city centre and transport links. The breakfast was superb with a large variety of foods to suit all tastes.

No bar? Or we never found its location?

Great location and breakfast

The rooms were too hot and apparently the air conditioning is only operational in summer. Opening the windows is an option if you enjoy listening to traffic while you are trying to sleep.

It was clean and not too bad a location. Close to Marienplatz.

Excellent location for the Christmas markets at Marienplatz! The breakfast was absolutely the best we’ve had lately. It was very easy to walk to most areas that we wanted to get to including the museums!

We were there on 6/12/2025. The location of the hotel was excellent for the Christmas market in Marienplatz and easy walking distance of tons of shops and a couple of malls. Plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. From the reviews I read before we went most people said the hotel was within a few minutes of the main railway station, it is NOT. The main railway station (Munchen Hauptbahnhof or HBF) is easily a 20 min walk and some over cobbled stones which isn’t easy rolling suitcases. Now, if you get the underground from the HBF to Marienplatz then yes, it’s a couple of minutes walk to the hotel. The room was comfortable but not luxurious (by North American standards) and the shower great. Also the breakfast was amazing with plenty of choices. A nice little touch was a complimentary mini bar which had bottled water, sodas, and a couple of a Bavarian Beer which was delicious! I drank both of them ? All in all a good visit.

Perfect location to stop in and out in between outings, but just off the main road enough to be quieter. Absolutely amazing breakfast! Staff were also extremely nice. They were also very friendly and accommodating for a young child.

Didn’t seem possible to turn the heat down any more and rooms seemed warm.
