Fred Hotel Zürich Leonhardstrasse

Room size and great location. Excellent value.

Unfortunately there was renovation work on our floor. So plastics were in the floor in the hallway and some smell.

Positives: Not too far from old town and the main train station, all walking distance.Neutral: Access and registration all from your phone, if you like that kind of thing

Negatives: Check in & out were done virtually with no staff present. So getting into the building and room depends on your phone reception to be able to check in and access the controls for entry.

The room was well appointed-nice bathroom, the self-check-in was straight forward.

The bed and pillows were terribly uncomfortable from North American standards, the mini fridge did not work our entire stay (and it was a reason we booked this hotel!), and I received a scam Whatsapp message prior to checking in from "Christine Schmidt"(Google it-a well known scam) with our hotel stay dates as well as an scam email after our stay about our upcoming stay-be aware!

Convenient location, not very far from Zurich main station.

There wasn't anybody there for checking in, the elevator was not working, and there was a unpleasant smell in the room. The air-conditioner was really old, so likely it's the reason.

Nice room and great shower. Good location.

Mobile check in not ideal. You don't get a physical key but digital keys on phone. Which doesn't always work and spent ages trying to get it to work every single time I tried to go into my room. Booked late check out but digital key didn't work after original check out time. Room could have been more clean, there was dust on floor.

Good location and an innovative approach (online check-in, virtual keys, etc.), everything worked smoothly. The bed was comfortable

The room was small and dark, with poor ventilation. As a result, towels did not dry properly, and it was a bit uncomfortable that the room service was only provided every three days. The air felt stale, and the overall price seemed relatively high for the conditions

The room was clean and comfortable. First I was a bit confused, but after I realised how the key system works I found it really cool. The hotel is near to the train station, so it was a perfect place to stay. I would recommend this place to everybody who is looking for a nice place to stay

The check-in process was extremely smooth, the location was great, and the room was perfectly clean and well furnitured, with a good bathroom.

It was a bit of noise from outside because of the tram line, but it's only an issue for the day.

The room was extremely comfortable - the a/c worked super well, the bed was comfortable, the shower was high pressured and the wifi worked well. All around a great value and experience

The only thing that wasn't great - and this is NOT Fred's fault - was the location. We took the train from the airport to the HB and then walked from there. Fred is located up quite a steep hill. We ended up taking an uber back to the airport. Tram might have worked better, but timing did not work out.

Short 10 min walk (uphill) from the railway station. Downloading the Fred App makes check in easy (digital room keys on your phone). Tram stop right outside for easy access to the whole city (download the ZVV App). Free lockers available in reception (booked and controlled through the App) for use before checkin and after checkout).

Large room with small balcony, very clean. Air con was brilliant as very hot in Zurich. Easy to reach hotel on the no 10 tram from the railway station. Stops right outside the hotel. Nice bathroom and great shower.Big comfortable bed, fridge and kettle. We loved our stay at Fred’s ❤️

Pillows.. not great! And remember there are 3 Fred hotels in Zurich we went to the wrong one first. But staff member was really helpful. Don’t walk it from station if you have luggage as it’s a steep incline and a huge amount steps!!

The location was great. The air conditioning was really nice. The kettle for tea and coffee was nice.

The refrigerator doesn't cool

The best is the location, walking distance to train station and old town. The tram -number 10 from and to airport stops exactly in front of the hotel.The room is a good size, air conditioning working fine, kettle, coffee and tea in the room. The minibar had only 2 small bottle of still water.The lockers were great, big enough for to cabin luggage and backpack.

The room is not clean at all and the towels not change so after two days is kind a small problem (no dryer in the bathroom or balcony).The balcony very very tiny.

Air conditioning, convenient location

We showed up a few minutes after 3pm exhausted from travel and looking forward to lying down. To our dismay, our room was not ready at 3pm. Apparently, there was only one staff member cleaning rooms and there had been a bunch of checkouts that day, so not all of the rooms had been cleaned by 3pm. Our room was reprioritized to be cleaned next. I’m sure our cleaner did their best, but the room was not ready until 4:15pm.To rectify the situation, the remote staff suggested reserving free luggage lockers so that we can store our luggage and go into the city. We were able to successfully reserve two of the luggage lockers. However, the keys for those two luggage lockers never showed up on the website. As such, we were unable to lock and unlock the luggage lockers. The remote staff were able to remotely lock and unlock the luggage lockers, but we had no control ourselves. The remote staff suggested manually turning the locks, but the locks cannot be manually turned, suggesting that the remote staff have no actual experience with the luggage lockers. Although the remote staff could remotely lock and unlock the luggage lockers, I did not want to leave control of our luggage in their hands because I no longer had any confidence in the hotel at that point. I did not want to risk our luggage being locked away as a result of us having no control over the lockers. As such, we instead chose to wait over an hour for our room to become ready.The lack of notification that our room would not be ready at 3pm, coupled with uncontrollable luggage lockers made for a bad experience. The remote staff did their best, but for the amount of money spent, I expected a better experience.The rooms themselves were good, though the bed pillows were thin and uncomfortable.

If René Magritte were to paint the Fred Hotel, he might inscribe beneath it: “Ceci n’est pas un hôtel.” Because, dear traveler—this is not a hotel. This is, rather artfully, a room. A very nice room, to be fair, but a room and nothing more.Upon arrival, you may find yourself searching for the front desk, perhaps expecting a warm Swiss welcome. Instead, you’ll be greeted by the existential realization: “No one is here.” The staff, like the concept of service, is purely theoretical. Need a fresh towel or a refill of shower soap? Request away! The answer is as surreal as Magritte’s pipe: “No one is here.” The broken safe? Consider it a metaphor for your expectations—locked away, never to be fixed.Breakfast, bar, restaurant, gym—these are but figments of your imagination. The Fred Hotel offers none of these distractions. Why clutter your experience with the superfluous? Here, you are invited to meditate on the purity of the room itself: a comfortable bed, a nice shower, and the minimalist thrill of no cleaning during your stay.

To be fair, the room is suitably appointed. The bed is comfortable, the shower is pleasant, and the décor is modern. But let us not confuse a well-furnished room with a hotel. Just as Magritte’s pipe is not a pipe, the Fred Hotel is not a hotel. It is, at best, a well-appointed room rental—an ode to the absence of hospitality.So, if you seek the illusion of a hotel, the Fred Hotel is a masterpiece. But if you require actual hotel services, remember: “Ceci n’est pas un hôtel.” It’s just a room—nothing more, nothing less.

Modern, Comfortable, spacious, great location and a nice room

More pillows for sleeping needed, lights in bathroom not bright enough especially for doing makeup and usb plugs by bedside would be more appropriate

Clean and close to the centre

Pillows not great and the safe in our room didn’t work.

Rooms were new and clean. Great location just steps from the main station. Fridge and kettle were great to have in the room. The air conditioning works amazing!!

Location is great. Close to everything. The tram is just in front, it helped us get to the central location easily. I love the shower head too.

I wish there’s a staff present so we can ask questions.

WhatsApp team was slow to respond. In a hotel that does not have staff, I would expect a faster response. Parking instructions on the website were confusing.
