Great location, wonderful rooms, helpful staff.
The staff were very friendly. The location is unbelievably great. The rooms are a bit old but well equipped. The floor and the sofa had some stains on them but overall it was good. The breakfast is also very good.

Top Tips
- Book Cologne hotels 3 to 6 months in advance for major Koelnmesse trade fairs such as Gamescom or Anuga, or for Carnival season in February, to avoid rate increases of 30-50% and secure a wider selection of rooms. Early booking is essential because occupancy rises sharply during these events.
- Stay in the Deutz district to be within a 5-10 minute walk of Koelnmesse and Lanxess Arena. Rates here are typically 20-30% lower, and nightlife is quieter than in the Altstadt (Old Town), offering both convenience and cost savings.
- Hotels located within a 0-5 minute walk of Kölner Dom and Köln Hauptbahnhof usually have higher rates, but you will be directly next to main attractions and long-distance trains. This option is ideal for travelers on a tight schedule.
- Plan your airport transfer from Cologne/Bonn Airport (CGN) using S-Bahn S13 or S19 to Köln Hauptbahnhof, which takes about 15-20 minutes. This option provides more predictable travel times, especially compared to taxis during peak traffic.
- German quiet hours run from 22:00 to 06:00. During Carnival or weekends, request a room facing an inner courtyard or on a higher floor to reduce street noise, especially in lively areas such as Zülpicher Straße or Friesenviertel.
- Pay with an EMV chip-and-PIN card whenever possible and select EUR at payment to avoid Dynamic Currency Conversion fees. Carry euros for small hotels, tips, or taxis that may not accept cards.
- Request an accessible room ('barrierefreies Zimmer') when booking if you need step-free access, as many Altstadt hotels are in older buildings without elevators. Confirm the presence of elevator or ramp access for improved mobility support.
- For reliable Wi-Fi, consider business hotels near Koelnmesse or Köln Hauptbahnhof. These are more likely to offer stable wired or high-bandwidth connections (50-100 Mbps). Always verify Wi-Fi details at check-in.
- Expect a 5% city tax on all Cologne hotel stays, usually €1–3 (approx. $1.09–$3.26 USD) per person per night, typically payable directly at check-out. Business stays may qualify for exemption; request the form at reception.
- Store valuables in the hotel safe to reduce pickpocketing risk by 50-70% in tourist-heavy areas like Altstadt, especially during crowded events. Ask at reception if you need a larger safe for electronics or documents.
