The location was great. The entrance to the City Walls was across the street. We didn't have a car and everything was within walking distance. We did take a cab to and from the train station. That was a bit too far to walk with luggage.

Top Tips
- Hotels inside York’s Roman or medieval walls typically put you within a 5-15 minute walk of York Minster and major museums. Hotels by York Station are 15-20 minutes from the Minster, but just 2-5 minutes from the train, ideal for early departures or arrivals. Consider proximity based on your itinerary, especially if you have large luggage or mobility needs.
- Reserve central hotel rooms at least 60 days ahead for weekends during York’s late-November to early-December St Nicholas Fair or late-August Ebor Festival. Demand and rates surge during these events, and top chains and boutique hotels fill early.
- Expect to pay £10–£30 (approx. $13–$38 USD) nightly for parking at central hotels. For lower-cost day visits, use York’s Park & Ride options, which help avoid city centre congestion and narrow streets.
- Request an accessible or step-free room in advance if needed. Many central hotels in York are in historic, listed buildings with limited lift access or narrow stairs; check accessibility features with your hotel directly before arrival.
- UK hotel rates include 20% VAT. Ask for a VAT itemised invoice at checkout if you need to reclaim costs for business purposes, and keep your booking confirmation for any required documentation.
- Select GBP as your payment currency on card terminals to avoid Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) fees, which can add several percent to your total. Confirm the displayed amount matches your quoted room rate before authorizing payment.
- For quiet evenings, request a room away from Stonegate, The Shambles, and Goodramgate pubs, as these streets see late-night foot traffic and music, especially Fridays and Saturdays. If sensitive to noise, contact the hotel in advance for their quietest available room.
- If you need a reliable workspace, choose chain hotels near York Station or recently built business hotels. These generally offer dedicated desk space and multiple sockets, which can be limited in boutique hotels or listed city-centre properties.
- York tap water meets UK safety standards and is safe to drink from any hotel tap. Bring a reusable water bottle to reduce single-use plastics; most major hotels can provide water if requested.
