    Pros +

    • Friendly and helpful staff.
    • We have been using this hotel since it opened on 2000. We have always found it comfortable, clean and ideally positioned. The hotel does try to accommodate most requests like in the loft rooms (our preference)Good buffet breakfast as well.
    • Location super. Use of a fridge, kettle.toaster super.

    Cons -

    • The bed was hard. The pillows were flat. The bathroom is old and the bath doesn't have any safety handle to get into the shower. The shower was difficult to control.. The toiletries were meagre. The bath towels too small.
    • Nothing in particular.
    • Having to go up 5 flights of stairs. Lack of hot water. Poor.mattresses and so sore back as a result.

Good location, the room itself was good.

The mattress was awful, huge lump in the middle. We didn’t sleep well and left with backache.

    10SusanPosted on: 2-20-2026

Lovely clean room friendly helpfull staff. Lovely breakfast. Right by river and centre of town.

Would have liked to have eaten in the restaurant in the evening but was not family friendly. Very selective menu nothing for children

    10LisaPosted on: 2-20-2026

Great Location. Very clean and well equipped. Comfy beds.

    7ElenaPosted on: 2-18-2026

Very well equipped and close to the city centre.

Some cobwebs on the ceiling and my husband her his foot on the moving wooden planks of the floor.

    10DianePosted on: 2-18-2026

The staff were friendly, the location was great, the room was very big and clean.

The only downside was that the car park was flooded, but we found somewhere else to park.

    5ButterworthPosted on: 2-17-2026

Location was great for the city centre

Looking a bit tired and datedRoom 36 was next to a loud vent fanStaff weren’t very helpful when we asked to move room

    8PatriciaPosted on: 2-13-2026

Great location. Staff helpful and friendly. Breakfast good. Rooms good.

Shower over bath and shower had no hand held attachment. Hairdryer is fixed in bathroom with button hard to hold down. No fridge.

We liked the location, ease of booking in, room was good enough for us, clean, spacious enough towels etc. Staff was friendly and answered any questions we had, bar area good, if just a tiny bit too cool.

We had breakfast which is a buffet, I didn't mind mine at all, but husband wasn't impressed with the fried bread, said it was too greasy and tasted of oil too much!!! Very good spread though for typical English breakfast

The hotel was comfortable and clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Good location for central York.

Unfortunately the car park is very prone to flooding and we had to move our car. Be prepared to have to move your car. £19 a night for parking felt quite expensive

    8AlisonPosted on: 2-9-2026

    Didnt have breakfast, brilliant room..

    Better pillows

    5MassimoPosted on: 2-9-2026

    Great location, very central

This hotel is dated and was completely overpriced for a night stay even though breakfast was included. The mattress was like lying on a melting marshmallow, definitely time to revamp I’d say.

    8SimonPosted on: 2-9-2026

The location is excellent, pleasant bar area and helpful staff

The bed was a bit unforgiving and not enough pillows. I could have asked for more, but I didn't. One of the towels we had was soiled and the bathroom was dark

    6AgnieszkaPosted on: 2-9-2026

Location, comfortable bed, view from the window.

Breakfast wasn't great. The room was a bit cold to start with, but warmed up after a while. Extractor fan not working in the bathroom, it was a bit damp.

    9FrancesPosted on: 2-8-2026

Brilliant location - a short walk to all the main attractions and lots of bars/restaurants. Lovely spot right on the river. Convenient parking under the hotel. Great breakfast.

    8StaciePosted on: 2-8-2026

    Lovely hotel, good location

Bed isn't very comfortable and the walls are paper thin, you can hear everything and the doors slam so was woken up all night

    5StevePosted on: 2-7-2026

The staff were very nice and helpful. The buffet breakfast was hot and tasted good.

Personally I found the beds to be very hard and the pillows were very thin.Nothing seemed to be finished which did spoil the hotel.I
