- Excellent stay. Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Sunday lunch was fantastic. Room was very comfortable (did need to turn the radiators down / off). Breakfast also very good. If you need to be in the area, I would recommend.

Cons -
- Not a lot to complain about.
- expensive. e.g. The mixer for a G&T was £7.
- Would have enjoyed low key music in the drawing room and dining rooms especially during dinner (there was only music in the inner entrance hall)

Middlethorpe is a beautiful elegant hotel full of wonderful furniture and decor.I loved our traditional rooms, the delicious evening food and good wine. The staff provide great customer service that’s not overly fussy, just as I like it.It was fun exploring the extensive gardens, which are well maintained.Attention to detail is high.Lots of lovely tasteful Christmas touches in our rooms (real Christmas trees) and throughout the hotel.

Lovely hotel with huge airy reception rooms and charming staff.
Quite close to a main road but quiet inside the hotel.
The location was great, but the staff were excellent! I planned a special surprise for my girlfriend and the staff helped me pull it off perfectly.
Quaint features excellent food and attention to detail from staff
Duvet instead of blankets
Comfortable room, containing all we needed and of excellent quality.Superb food.Friendly, courteous and highly professional staff, providing a great service.Lovely building, conveniently located to access the city of York.
There was nothing not to like. Fab from moment we arrived till well after we left. Doors opened for us treated like royalty. Everything was fab. Will def be back next year
Nothing apart from we had to leave i mean how could you send us back to work . On plus side going to wotk pays for us to come back again
Beautifully decorated for Christmas, immaculately clean with fantastic customer service from all the staff. The beds are so comfortable, the spa facilities were very good and the breakfast was delicious
I chose the hotel becasue it was close to the crematorium and offered comfortable accommodation. My reception was flawless and Mark was welcoming, thorough in the introduction to the property and mindful of my request for fresh milk
The over bath shower head was low and I kept catching my hand on it whilst washing my hair. The handrail "inside" the shower part of the bath made space rather tight. I banged my elbow on the rail a couple of times.
Property was set in a lovely quiet location, pretty grounds, close enough to York City Centre about 10 minutes by taxi. Very peaceful.
Hotel toiletries was in very small bottles so used our own. Our bedroom was located away from the hotel, we would have appreciated to be informed first because I was looking forward to staying in the main hotel without walking outside buildings and upstairs to go to sleep/rest.
Lovely hotel 45 mins nice walk to York..room was spotless.we stayed in a courtyard room and it was large with a big bed...
Very comfortable and warm. Staff very friendly helpful and professional. Very fine dinner and excellent quality breakfast. There is even a bus service into York from just outside the hotel.
Location, grounds, excellent breakfast, staff helpfulness.
Nothing really - it’s a really nice place to stay.
Beautiful building. Quiet location. Short walk to local pub and shop. Also close enough to walk into York.
Nothing. Planning to go again.
Much nicer to stay in a traditional country house that a generic chain hotel.
The full English breakfast was lovely but very dry… could have done with some beans or tomatoes
Wonderful atmospheric Georgian mansion with fabulous service, delicious food, and relaxing spa.

It was beautiful in every way, the decor is stunning , the staff are unbelievably helpful and the food was amazing. I would definitely recommend and I am super fussy!
The spa was disappointing, it was dated with limited facilities and a complete contrast to the luxury of the hotel. The staff however were fantastic and made the visit very enjoyable.
Comfortable accommodation, beautiful hall and grounds. Close to York centre. Staff were amazing.
Bedroom was far too hot (fans are provided). Bar service expensive.
