    Pros +

    • On arrival I was greeted by a friendly receptionist dressed as a witch (I arrived on Halloween), with lots of seasonal decorations in the public areas. This was a good start! The room was basic but clean, comfortable and warm. I didn't use the TV so can't comment. The showers and toilets are modern, clean and function well, with shower gel and shampoo provided (towels are provided in your room). The breakfast was really good, self service, lots of choice even for a vegetarian, tasty, and you can eat all you want. The staff are also very friendly and helpful. The hostel is pet friendly and (well behaved) dogs are even welcome in the breakfast room. My dog seemed content during our visit and it's a good area for dog walks. I didn't eat at the restaurant apart from breakfast as I spent most of the time out in the city. There is plenty of parking on site.
    • The staff were great, especially Lindsay who checked us in. The breakfast was so good!
    • Everything except no dinner available. Just pizza

    Cons -

    • My one less than happy experience was being woken up at 4.30am by other guests leaving early. The room doors evidently don't keep out noise in the corridor and the passageway light turns on automatically which comes under the door. However I'm not sure what could be done about this, and I did get back to sleep.
    • The doors in the hallway would slam during the night, probably customers using the washrooms.
    • No dinner. Had to go out to have dinner

The room was quiet and clean. The beds were also super comfortable

Exceptionally clean, good breakfast for 10£

Shower fluctuations Bus to and from city confusing till realize the stables is not the stop

The room was clean and tidy - the sheets, towels, and bathroom were clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful, offering good local advice and working to fulfil all the requests we had. The breakfast was good.

My only minor gripe is that the bed did have some small bits of dust/debris on it, but this was easily swept away and certainly not enough to complain about. Some of the furniture looks like it's a bit past its prime, but this is reflected in the price.

Clean, well appointed, very good value, excellent location, friendly staff

It wasn't unexpected but it was a very small room. With 4 occupants there was very little space for stuff, we had to be very organized. If I could suggest one little thing to make it easier I would ask for some hooks for coats and bags and towels.

I liked how it was basic and very easy to navigate. Never had a problem at all.

Might want to check the shower heads. The one I used wasn't very stable.

The room is a bit small for family

Simple, clean and comfortable room, perfect for somewhere to come back to in a quiet area of york.

Soundproofing between rooms could have helped the peacefullness

Great location on the way in to York. Small single room in the annex for only £53. Perfect for an overnight stay. Shared bathroom spotlessly clean. Very friendly staff. Absolutely superb breakfast for £9.95.

Nothing I didn’t like but the annex is a collection of single rooms. Occasionally there was a bit of noise from other guests. However this was a Saturday night and it was a lot less than I have experienced in other city hotels. Definitely will not put me off booking again.

Very clean, good breakfast and not expensive, very friendly staff, location

    1PaulPosted on: 4-28-2025

Showers clean and work. Parking is free

It's a hostel. But it has more in common with a prison. The rooms are very small. The walls are paper thin so you can hear a mouse fart from 3 rooms down. This is made worse by the non fire rated doors, that you can see daylight through the seals. This means that every time , one of the guests opens the front door. It bangs the door to your room. Showers are clean and work. Wifi is patchy at best . Breakfast is mainly fried food.If your thinking about booking. DONT. PAY EXTRA AND BOOK THE HOLIDAY INN NEXT DOOR.

The breakfast was very nice and plenty of options. Staff were very friendly and amiable too.I liked it as it was very quiet too with easy access to the city.

The room was quite small for our family but it would be fine if you have young children.Mine are a bit older.

    9RitikaPosted on: 4-26-2025

Very friendly and accommodating staff.Lot of space and garden around for my kid to play.

    5ClairePosted on: 4-25-2025

Hotel nice, staff helpful, good breakfast.

So noisy. If you want a decent night sleep book somewhere else. Walls are so thin. Window didn't even sound like it was shut.

    8LauraPosted on: 4-25-2025

Really friendly staff, basic but clean room.

The bottom bunk mattress was too soft. We weren't told until our last night that there was complimentary tea/coffee, ect, in the dining area.

    9AstonPosted on: 4-25-2025

Spacious rooms, comfortable and all the facilities we needed. A private and unique location.

No horses were at the property during our 2 night stay. Some minor issues in the property such as the dimmable down lights flickering and being noisy. Electric fireplace didn't work. Bathroom floor stayed wet for a long time - assumed the floor isn't heated.

    8DeepakPosted on: 4-24-2025

Staff were friendly, Clean rooms, Great location, Free Parking, and a value for money Breakfast spread.

Small and cramped rooms. Didn't feel worth the price paid, around 130 per night.
