    Cons -

    • It was a nice experience, but the hostel is quite crowded year round.
    • 15-20 min walk from City Center, had inconsiderate roommates who left bathroom a mess after their showers.
    • Wifi didn’t really work in the room, but yeah, who cares. Top-notch hostel.

Friendly staff. Large kitchen with many items to cook with. Shower in each dorm room with good hot water. Quiet and nice spaces to hang out.

Clean linen, under-bed lockers, hot shower | WiFi was okay | functional kitchen |

Location is south of the train station and city center, but walkable | there was almost no room for guest food storage, it seems like the volunteers take up most of the space | music in the common area can be loud at times | sitting room has few plug outlets, and would benefit from corded power strips |

The staff and “vibe” were so positive! The kitchen is huge and immaculate; the location is very convenient for bus and train travel. Our single room was immaculate and very quiet. The other travelers were great conversationalists. There were plenty of varied hang out spaces and games from which to choose.

    No negatives!

The property itself isn’t a bad property. It’s a cheap place to stay and the staff is very friendly and nice.

The location is far from city center. If you want food or an activity you’re gonna have to walk 25-30 minutes each way. The buses stop right in front of the hostel but they aren’t very reliable. The beds are extremely uncomfortable, i’m talking mega firm so if you like cushion when you sleep these aren’t for you. I booked two nights and only stayed one and left to go to a hotel because I was so uncomfortable not only from the bed but the guy in the bunk above me was getting up to go to the bathroom every 40 minutes all night and woke me up at around 3 am. He weirdly sat in the chair right next to my head and worked on his computer all night with notifications blasting until I asked him to put it on silent. Overall just a bad experience. I wouldn’t recommend it to friends or family but if you’re on a mega budget it’s not the worst place in the world.

Easy to find from the train station and not too far from the city centre.

It was smelly (smelled like mould), dirty, not very organised compared to other UK hostels I've been to. Such a shame as it definitely has potential

    10AlexPosted on: 8-18-2025

I’ll begin with the staff. From the moment I arrived I literally felt like I was visiting a family members home! The staff was always conversing or smiling if they weren’t cleaning or helping someone. With that being said everything was ALWAYS clean and fresh! The kitchen facility was a great sport for all cooking needs! The property is a small walk to most of the cities attractions including the train station that brought me. I was able to connect with other visitors very well also. I think this is because of how friendly the staff was. Everyone there seemed like they have been friends forever.

The staff were the best part of this hostel, specifically Patrick and Erika. From the moment you walk in Patrick makes sure you are right at home and you have everything you need, he was great. Erika does an amazing walking tour of York which everyone should do, and she persisted doing it with me in 32 degree heat so she’s a legend for that. Location is great as it’s slightly quieter from the city centre but still only 50 mins away. Public spaces in the hostel were great and the beds were comfy.

Sometimes got hot during the nights even despite the fans, not much the hostel can do about that.

Big, bright room, comfy bed with outlet and light right by bed and a shelf. Big wire locker under the bed. Excellent kitchen and lounge with big, comfy chairs.A bus into the city stops tight in front of the hostel and there is an outdoor patio to soak up the sun, if the smokers haven’t taken it over.

Only thing I would wish for was air conditioning, even with windows open the room was very cold arm. Also wish this, like every other hostel, would swap out the heavy winter duvet for a light, Summer blanket and sheet.

    9CarmenPosted on: 8-4-2025

Clean, good indoor and outdoor space. Extremely friendly staff.

    7AravinthanPosted on: 7-23-2025

Room is good as I expected. But there is lack of plug points to charge phone. In the breakfast they kept bread, some cornflakes and oats and milk. I expected kind of cooked foods but for the money 3.5, this is okay. It has own parking area which is an additional advantage and take 5 pounds for each day for the parking and I didn't see much competition for the parking space.

Kitchen closes at 10pm and opens again at 7 am. I usually leaves 6 am and I couldn't even make a coffee because of the time limitation. It will be better to provide a charging point per bed.

The price was really good and the kitchen was great, they have coffee, tea and milk available for free, the walking tours by the japanese girl Erika are the best (Erika I love u).

    Nothing, the hostel is great.

    1. Location is good, easy to go to city of York2. Kitchen utensil are good3. Friendly environment4. There is lockage

    1. The first room that I went, it was super dirty with smell of weeds. When I asked to change my room, a guy charged me with more money, which should not be happened, since is was not my fault!!

I had an excellent stay at this hostel. For starters, it was easy to find with a relatively close location to public transport. Check-in was super easy, the rooms were clean, and the beds were good. The kitchen at this hostel is exceptionally clean, well stocked, and large enough for multiple people to cook it. Additionally, the hostel offered free tea and coffee, as well as having a bar on sight. What puts this hostel a step above the rest is its wonderful staff. From the start to the end of my stay, the staff was helpful, kind, friendly, and welcoming. On both nights of my stay, free events were scheduled by the staff for guests to join in on, and we were invited by multiple staff members to join in on the fun. Off duty staff members also got involved with these events and joined in helping to lead conversations and connect fellow travelers with each other. At 3 am on the last night of my stay, there was an incident in the common area with a fellow guest who got extremely volatile with other guests and staff members alike. During this incident, they accused multiple people of being racist and ganging up on them. At that point, an incredibly knowledgable and well-spoken, off-duty staff member stepped in and started to investigate the situation so that they could immediately recitfy any wrong doings done. The guest then, in turn, immediately dismissed this staff member, demanding that they find another member of staff that "actually understood english."In the face of the verbal abuse and aggression shown by this individual, every member of staff showed exceptional character and judgment. Regardless of the late hour, three members of off-duty staff stepped in and immediately investigated the claims this guest had made. The claims were quickly found to be false, and the complaining guest confirmed as the sole instigator.

I wish I could have stayed longer.

Good room for 12 bed dorm with plenty of room with desk and private bathroom nearby. Shower separated enough from toilet to leave dry area. Nice kitchen with MW and tow EK with plenty of plates, bowls, and silverware with a big well used frig. Grey boxes for frig use available. Bar available but only canned beer and drinks available. Nice lounge area and another room with many tables. Fond great restaurant nearby with steak with peppercorn sauce at decent price. Grocery store nearby.

Draft beer would have been nice in bar. Long walk from bus/train station the only draw-back.

Staff is friendly. Kitchen is good and big. Breakfast is convenient amd simple. Bus station is in front of hostel.

Room is Ok.bit old. 1 night sleeping is ok. About 15-20mins walking to railway station.

Parking at £5 per day, proximity to city centre

Low beams in private room should be marked with a warning, I hit my head very hard on one of them.
