Safestay York Micklegate

It was close to everything we wanted to see and was a quick walk from the train station.

Getting in the front door was difficult. Many guests? key cards did not work to open the front door and staff was very slow to open the door when we rang the bell.

Good location, short distance to most thinks in York. I liked that the beds had curtains you could draw around it for privacy.

The facilities were poor and unusable due to the low levels of cleanliness in the rooms. I have never stayed in a hostel where they were kept so dirty.There were no facilities for cooking either, not even hot water, you have to ask at the front desk if you want hot water for brews or basic meals like a pot noodle. The price was very low but even so, I would not stay here again as I felt uncomfortable using the showers and toilets in the rooms.

Overall I was happy and appreciated the location and the facilities for a very good price

Two very small things. The soap dispenser in our toilet was not working. I never thought of it when I got down to reception. Secondly, the breakfasts were a bit limited. In particular, it was a few days before I discovered the fruit bowl "hidden" on top of the fridge.

Friendly staff and nice location. Also you don’t need to make your own bed, which is handy

There was no hot water availability in the washroom. We have raised the concern after check in, but the staffs were unable to fix it, they were not ready to swap the room, Very disappointed. We were 9 adult staying in that room, they were given card access to another room to use the wash rooms, but every time getting in to another room was difficult and staffs were didn’t tell us that the other room was occupied later. We were there for 2 nights and struggling to use the toilet facilities and our room was on the top floor, there is no lift facilities, staffs advised us to use the washroom on the ground floor, that was not possible. Very bad experience….

One of the beds was very short & the mattress wasn’t overly comfortable but a really great price for a hostel!

Two groups of teenagers on top floor with us. Heard girls screaching and screaming and the lads what seemed to be throwing each other or jumping down flights of stairs for fun. Never heard noise like it. Couldn't have got past them to go down to ground floor and so waited for staff to address. No one came. Had to yell at them myself. Told staff next day. Asked if I'd reported. Called number, sent message then eventually sorted it because night staff obviously nowhere to be seen. Just awful. Why put two groups of teenagers either side of a double room and also why not advertise that you take giant groups? Bathroom clean but plastic caravan style. Bed comfy enough but small pillows with no spares so basically lying flat. Not everyone would mind. Don't blame kids for our bad night's sleep. It probably would have been me at that age, but no support from night staff not on.

The noisy metal cages clunking closed by guests who don’t realise/or seem to care, just how heavy and noisy they are/can be at past 0015hr when they Book-In for their first time/or arrive Drunk and clatter their cages - awakening anyone who has already turned in for the night …. Or ….Those who set their mobile alarms for 0630hr in the morning then take an age to switch it off, but stay in bed, until …0640hr when their snooze goes off!!! YOUR Alarm clock is for YOU… not the rest of the shared room. Either pay extra and get yourself your own private room - or put YOUR alarm under YOUR pillow on a quieter volume or turn the alarm off immediately then GET Up straight away as quietly as possible by being considerate to everyone else in the room!! Not rocket science!

Perfect location for central York. We just wanted a cheap and nearby place to stay after a night out. Bed was comfy enough and the room was clean. Good amount of plug sockets including ones up high for the top bunks to use.

One small bathroom that felt like it belonged on an airplane, for a room of 10 people to share! This included the shower too, so you could not use the toilet if someone was in the shower. The shower would also soak the entire bathroom. Room was extremely warm all night. There were large crates under the beds to lock away your belongings, but they were really hard to use as you had to fully pull them out from under the bed to open them, and there was not enough room to do so.

The location is amazing, they also clean up daily.

Not even soap in the toilet. The beds are very noisy and the breakfast was very poor. Have to go to the reception to ask for tea as it wasn’t offered in the dining area.

The location was good and manageable according to the price.

The staff was very rude and insensitive to the customer’s needs and concerns, customer complained that she won’t be able to climb up because of knee pain but the staff told the customer that she doesn’t have a choice otherwise she should stop booking a space in Safestay. Although she later obliged after much argument.

No kitchen. Make a provision for people to microwave their foods. Also why the price per night was increased from £12 to £13.

Good value for money. I stayed in a triple room and it was stunning. Love exposed beams in a historic building!

The cost of a locker n the room was hard to get into cos you need your card and u can’t come back without it, but that’s security.

Value for money, well situated and clean

There was no pool table as per the picture online

Easy access

Noise from fellow visitors not minding other people in room. Hard to open door with key. Some mattresses need change because they are broken
