About
Standing next to York Minster, Guy Fawkes Inn was the birthplace of the notorious plotter, Guido Fawkes. The Inn offers rooms with attached bathroom with free WiFi and flat-screen TV's. Each of the thirteen rooms have been decorated individually, feature antique feature, tea/coffee making facilities and complimentary toiletries. Many of the rooms also enjoy a landmark view. Guy Fawkes Inn retains many of its original features including gas lighting, real log fires and the timber staircase. You can also dine by candlelight in the restaurant, which serves classic pub-food from locally sourced ingredients and the bar stocks a range of real ales. The York Ghost Walk Experience leaves from York Minster each Saturday at 19:00 and both York Theater Royal and the National Railway Museum are just a 5-minute walk away.

- Location, just steps to York Minister and in the historic section with many shops. Excellent food in the restaurant.
- Location was very close to attractions, and train station.
- great location and historic feel
Cons -
- Inside patio rooms are a joke. Unlike the pictures, the patio is now covered, crowded with tables, chairs and space heaters.the lower room has one window, just outside is a table; so one can hear their conversation.
- WiFi signal weak in room. Room outside courtyard, so could not leave windows open when courtyard was open because of smokers
- wifi in room 10 (four poster bed) was spry and weak

Staying in a 500 year old inn that was the home of a famous revolutionary was a fascinating experience. It was by far the oldest room I've ever slept in and I wondered at length as to who had been born, and died in that space. It is next door to Yorkminster, the ancient cathedral of York and a great location all around. The food for both breakfast and dinner was delicious and staff were friendly and efficient. Be prepared for uneven floors and doorways that aren't square, but if to want that, stay in a newer hotel. We loved every minute. Great bar too!
There was scaffolding outside of our window but that was temporary and scheduled to be removed right after we left. We were hoping to see a ghost or two, but no luck, despite the rumors that it is haunted.
The History , the character and convenience
The age of the building doesn’t allow double glazing so a little noisy but that’s acceptable , they didn’t say that the bell ringers who are out of tune had a practice on Tuesday evenings
It hit the mark for the experience we were seeking - English Pub with rooms. Location was perfect for our stay in York and for some nearby touring. Easy to pop back to room during the day, pop out for an evening walk. Lively pub and restaurant, fun to feel like it’s your “home”
Unfortunately the restaurant had an issue with their refrigeration and that limited the menu for the evening we had dinner reservations - as well as the breakfast choices for one of our mornings.
Location was fabulous. It was a quirky beautiful old building with great history. Lovely beer garden and amazing staff.
Because it was a pub, it was VERY LOUD in my room. Impossible to go to sleep until pub closed at 11 pm. No on site parking. Long term parking was at least a 15 min walk which was difficult w luggage.
I absolutely loved my stay! The hotel is very unique as it is several hundreds of years old. I loved the quirks of the unstable floors and stairs. The decorations are absolutely beautiful! The staff was very friendly. The breakfast was huge and very tasty. This is definitely the perfect spot for you if you want a unique stay that has a lot of character. I absolutely loved staying in room 14, the top floor suite! It’s in the perfect location!
I loved everything!
Loved the bar area and the enchanted garden at the back. The view was over the rooftops. Substantial breakfast, friendly staff, excellent location.
Lovely room, very comfy bed lovely food
Nothing i
Great location. Quaint - picturesque
Quaint - Room needed updating.
History and comfy bed. Full English was very good too
Paid extra for the 4 poster room and asked for good views. Failed to inform us that scaffolding, draped in tarpaulin, was positioned right outside our bedroom window, blocking our whole view.
Absolutely amazing location and lots of charming features.
A little worn around the edges- broken window, chipped paint. Instead of a double or king our room had a queen bed and a day bed which was annoying. Directly above the beer garden so quite noisy.
I was looking for something different and quirky - the room definitely met that expectation and more!Excellent location - central enough without being noisy.
The only negative thing I can comment on is that the venue looks a little tired in places and could do with a spruce up, but it is a very old building so is perhaps in keeping with it's age and ambience, etc. This didn't do anything to spoil our experience here.
Location is great, centre of town and beautiful building
Was not aware of works going on across the road upon booking, there are no net or masking curtains, so waking up with workmen on the walkways less than 8m away of the building opposite was not great. Was concerned that one bulb wasn't working in the bathroom and shower, the other was flashing, when I notified reception they didn't have any maintenance on, and gave us an option of using a bathroom in a different room.. Reception seemed like it was an add on job to the bar rather than slightly more dedicated. Very disappointed in general... The works should have been noted on both booking and the website, the reason for booking was the photos on the website, this certainly is very different in reality...
Not a lot. I expected a lot more for the price
The room was grubby . Bathroom was down a step . With my mobility issues, it was awkward during the night. Shower was tiny.
Great position
No reception area when booking in so was chaotic and crowded standing in narrow hall at small bench also being used to serve drinks
Good pub and food..
Stairs and steep. No elevator. No parking nearby.
Fantastic eccentric decor with amazing history throughout!
Could not be in a better location, clean, friendly atmosphere. We loved it!
It wasn't our first stay here, but if possible it was even better. The room was fantastic - super clean and comfortable with a luxurious 4-poster bed and a spectacular view of York Minster. The team were all lovely, so cheerful and couldn't be more helpful. Everything in the hotel is just easy - perfect location right in the centre of York, the on-site restaurant serves fabulous food and the bar is great. The history, of course, is brilliant, too.
