About
A 500-year-old converted Scottish castle, this hotel is set in the center of Durnoch, opposite a 13th-century cathedral. It features period features throughout the property, as well as fine dining and quiet walled gardens. Bright rooms all have a TV, tea/coffee and a private bathroom, while some also include a seating area and a four-poster bed. Many rooms have views of the hotel’s walled garden, Dornoch Firth or Dornoch Cathedral. The award-winning Garden Restaurant has original 15th-century stone walls and wooden floors. It offers traditional Scottish dishes using local produce including local seafood, Aberdeen Angus beef and Highland venison. Dornoch Castle Hotel is a 15-minute walk from the seashore and 10 minutes’ walk away is Royal Dornoch Golf Club. Pubs and restaurants are just a few minutes’ walk. We allow dogs in our ground floor Garden Standard Rooms. Please advise the hotel after booking if you are bringing your dog. We charge a £15 supplement per dog, per night. We do not allow dogs in our upper floor Garden Standard Rooms or Castle Rooms.

- Great hotel, really lovely whisky bar, lovely rooms and views, nice breakfast, and sweet staff. Would definitely recommend to someone looking to just have a night in a lovely space. Whisky on arrival is a nice touch!

- A beautiful property with a good restaurant and excellent location.
Cons -
- Nothing was unsatisfactory.
- I wish the room had been a bit cooler-we were lucky to have great weather but unfortunately having the windows open didn’t cool the room very much and allowed cigarette smoke from the patio below.
- Some bar noise in the room and corridors noisy

Twin beds pushed together making a large double. Interesting and unique buildingWarm and cozyDornoch is a cute little town with an amazing beach
Some bar noise in the room and corridors noisy
The rooms are large and clean, the staff are friendly and welcoming. The surroundings are delightful. Dornoch is a lovely place to visit and there are places for walks. Even if you're not a golfer.
We were disappointed in the choices for breakfast though. There was cereals, cold meats & fruit. Along with coffee and fruit juices. The cooked element was fried eggs and bacon. No other choices. We did ask about choices for eggs and was told that was the only choice.
Cute little cozy pub with great bartenders.
We stayed in a 2 bedroom with a queen in one and twins in the other. One of the twin beds was shot, my sister had to put a pillow under her legs to even out the dip in the mattress. Staff was apologetic and was going to look into it and offered up a small bottle of scotch as a peace offering. On another point, the castle is completely renovated and the only indication you’re in a castle is from the outside. That was a disappointment for us.
The town was nice. The hotel was pleasant.
I wanted for us to stay in a castle. That’s why I chose this place which otherwise was not central to anything. Despite researching it and booking the hotel 6 months in advance, I never came across mention that some of their rooms are OUTSDE the castle, in a newer building. Of course where we were assigned as the castle rooms were full!?! The room was lie any other hotel (with thin walls).
We liked the location and history.
It wasn’t super clean, and the dining area felt cafeteria like. The rooms could use a refresh or carpet replaced.
Dinner was okay, but basically bar food.
Check in was in a crowded bar.
Location was great superior room was really nice overlooking cathedral.staff very helpful.
We thought breakfast was poor if you like a cooked breakfast.egg and fried eggs only although continental breakfast more catered for.
Amy at the front desk was fantastic and accommodating when I had to arrive late! The whole staff was friendly and attentive! I would recommend again and again.1q
Very charming old place.
Room #6 is a treat. Very private with stunning features.
Good location
King bed was 2 mattresses with a large gap between. Very uncomfortable.
Beautiful old location, lovely staff, bar, experience
Mattress was uncomfortable
Location and style of hotel. Well stocked Bar and opportunity to taste unique Whisky….
Walking distance to golf. Large selection of whisky. Bartenders were very pleasant. Nice little down.
The staff was very supportive and kind.
Very old room, and not properly clean. We asked for a room change, and the staff were very supportive. The new room was more modern and comfortable and looked cleaner.
Great place. Great location. Amazing view. Nice bar. Quiet night.Fine breakfast.
For some, no elevator
Location was great, the bar has a lovely ambiance and gardens were very nice.
We had a garden room as all castle rooms were booked - room was very tired looking does not have the character of the castle so would only book here again if castle rooms are available.
The location was central with shops and areas of interest around. Easy walk to the golf course and beach. Breakfast had a good selection, and the bar had nice ambiance.
The rooms are pretty small and getting through all the stairs and fire doors with luggage takes some maneuvering.
