Pros +
- It was the perfect location for us and our friends. It was within walking distance to town, restaurants, the train station, our Viking cruise ship, and more. The hotel itself was very artsy and comfortable, and they had a good restaurant and bar on the premises. They also had some fast wifi.
- It’s close to places they have a cat that smells
- Nice staff, good location at a great price. The area is very quiet in the harbor area and feels very safe. I liked the setting in the old navy base.
Cons -
- They charge a lot for what it is
- Single windows and not well insulated. There is a huge radiator to keep the place warm, but you can feel the cold air from the windows from time to time.
- The day we arrived we grabbed a coffee in the bar. It seemed dirty and unkempt as we looked out on a filthy patio area. Our waitress was extremely pleasant but was dressed far from professionally and the impression of her was like our view. We walked from the train station with our bags. It was quite a schlep. We ordered Ubers for the remainder of our stay.

The boho retro feel makes this place unique. The young, enthusiastic staff made us feel welcomed as guests in the hotel and restaurant. We gave the restaurant another try for dinner. Which is not served in the bar. and it was excellent Although the elevator must be the slowest in the world, it worked great and because it was glass it didn't feel claustrophobic. The radiators in the room made it easy to adjust the temperature of our room. Also. It was very quiet and for it's location that's saying a lot.

Our favorite hotel in Amsterdam. Such a great atmosphere, amazing staff, wonderful location. Also cosy bar and restaurant.
Nothing bad to say.
A quirky hotel that has its own charm. Great views from the restaurant and very good food. With its own micro brewery, home made sausages and jams it generated a ‘home from home’ feeling.
The property was quiet with nice views from the rooms. Coffee is available.
There is a gentleman who sometimes works the front desk who is in the wrong profession. He was very brusque several times and then downright rude a couple other times. Don’t eat breakfast at the restaurant if you are in a hurry. A bit far from central station , but not a bad walk if the weathers nice. The bus stop is pretty close. The elevator is slow, but hey, there’s an elevator!
One of the best deals in lodging anywhere in Europe! Rooms are “just right” sized, and the staff (including the cat) are remarkably friendly and the place has an unmistakable community vibe, from the cute saunas to the EXCELLENT house-made cuisine and beer. The area is a short tram from Centraal but feels a world away from the busiest parts of the city; getting into the spots where everything is only takes ten minutes. The views are remarkable as well. All in all, Homeland is the kind of place you stay not just for a place to rest - it’s a place with a soul that will have you feeling like you’re hanging with long lost friends.
Nothing. :)
Nice historical place (marine officer quarters from the 1960s) with some original furniture, but still comfortable.
Nice location. Walking distance to the attractions we were interested in doing. Very quiet and on the canal so enjoyed watching swimmers, tour boats. A great selection of restaurants near by.
Room was small but comfortable.
Loved the staff and facilities. Had many spaces to relax in. Coffee and tea and lounging areas on each floor. Restaurant t and cafe were very good
A bit dated
I love this property. I have stayed there before and I believe I am now a loyal guest. I will always book with them. You can’t beat the ambience or the hospitality of the staff or the location and the history.
Room was clean, updated and the bed was very comfortable. I had a decent view of the nearby waterway and a pirate ship docked next to the maritime museum. The hotel had a great restuarant, you could get drinks or coffee, swim in the lake next to the property and it was within a mile walk of many sights and attractions.
I have nothing negative to say about the location, staff or property.
Location, staff, breakfast.
Property was clean and close to the things we were doing. Had a brewery on the premise and a Cafe!
Comfortable beds and pillows. Clean. Onsite restaurant.
One gentleman at the front desk was rude and said he did not like Americans. All of the female staff were very nice and professional.
Excellent adaptive use of an older building that has revitalized a bucolic neighborhood. Wonderfully funky and professional staff.
That we had to leave.
Great view of the river and garden from the hotel. It is quiet and I slept well at night. The room was quaint and lovely. The cat that lives in the hotel is very cute.
The room was designed with only a partial wall between the shower and the sink, so I had to be careful not to splash water on the floor of the sink.
Breakfast was excellent… as was service in the bar and restaurant
Would have been nice to have a little bigger room, but we understand the idea of reusing the officers quarters
Great location, comfortable bed, scenic views from room, restaurant was very good
