    Pros +

    • Nothing - maybe the location
    • The location, style of the hotel and friendliness of the staff. Very easy to get to all the best things in Amsterdam, a short walk from the train station too. The staff were really helpful and gave great recommendations.
    • Quaint hotel in old canal house building. Great views of canal. Good location, 5 minute walk to tram station. The staff was outstanding. Fun place to stay.

    Cons -

    • Everything - the room was tiny and on 5th floor, the stairs were vertical and smaller than a foot, the bathroom was tiny, the bedroom views awful, linens scratchy. This is a hostel masquerading as a hotel. STAY AWAY!
    • The room was smaller than we expected from the photos. We also were charged an additional 100 euros which we were not expecting. This was called a deposit but when questioned it was actually to cover the taxes paid by the hotel.
    • Lots of steep stairs to get to room and no lift. Would not recommend for someone who has trouble climbing stairs. We were in Amsterdam during a mild heat wave. Like most hotels in the area, there is no air conditioning.

    Location, staff, breakfast, aesthetics.

In the future I wouldn't order a room without a canal view. I tried to save money by not doing so and not only did we not get a canal view, we got a room with no windows! Still awesome and I don't hold it against the place.

    Friendly and helpful staff

Construction outside was a bit noisey

    Clean, welcoming, excellent location

This hotel situated in 3 adjacent historic canal houses is in a fabulous central location, with a great view of a canal and bridge along a quiet street. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Nice touch those free drink vouchers

The room and other communal areas would benefit from a little makeover. At first glance it all looks funky, but a lot of features and details look a little tired. Perhaps it’s time to replace that cabinet with the rusty edges above the sink. There was no table or shelf close to a plug socket to plug in the kettle to make ourselves a cup of tea. In fact there was no place at all to safely plug in the kettle other than on the floor.

Decorated well, clean, very accommodating staff.

It was quite cold at night despite having the heaters on.

Loved the location. Right on the canal within easy reach of everything.

I would not book breakfast in the hotel. There are lots of fabulous coffee shops nearby that do great food so would opt for that in future.

    Location was nice

Superior room with no windows, that was not acceptable especially when it was not advertised

the breakfast, staff, and location were all great.

Nice location, staff, style of the hotel, comfortable beds, and OK breakfast

bathroom sounds isolation, you could hear every flush of the toilet in the building. I guess it's the historical building.

Location is super, very cozy small hotel

A bit small room and breakfast was a bit unhealthy.

The property was so cute and close to the train station.

The stairs, we were on the 3rd story and the stairs were narrow and steep!

Had a delayed flight which caused us to miss our connecting flight in Amsterdam late at night. Had to find a hotel after midnight, and luckily there was room at Max Brown Hotel. It was easy to find, central and also at the same time in a calm area. We appreciated in particular the staff, they were accommodating, helpful and super nice to us. We even got treated to some of the best waffles we've ever had in the morning, along with some tea! We would without a doubt stay here if we went back to Amsterdam.
