- My favorite things about the hotel were the great central location; the warm, funny, and helpful staff; and the fun music-themed room decor.
- I like the style of the rooms. It has a great rock n roll feel to it. Leidseplein is also right around the corner ! Everything was clean and would highly recommend
- the location is perfect, the staff are always friendly and very helpful and the place is always kept very clean
Cons -
- It wasn't a problem for me (and I knew it going in), but the stairs are a bit skinny and windy and there's no elevator. As I said, it wasn't a problem for me, but just heads-up to anyone for whom this would be an issue.
- there was some loud banging between the floors during the night but more due to another customer
- 1.Narrow stairway, hard to walk up even without a suitcase2.Noisy room, walls as thin as paper. We could clearly hear every single sound from the corridor, the stairway, the rooms next door and the streets outside. It felt like all the sounds were hitting on our heads - talks, laughters, footsteps, opening and closing of doors, which were really stressful for nerves. 3.Music with strong beats from other rooms in the evening, and loud noise of trams and buses at night4.Small room with very dim light, as if sleeping in a bathroom. I can find nowhere to place my bags and jacket in the room.5.Very small desk, and only a small seat without backrest, which was worn-out, unstable and shaky, impossible to seat on6.The bedding was damp, with a slight strange smell. Sometimes there was smell of smoke in the corridor.6.There was no heating, very cold in the room

Nice personnel, great location and a fantastic place for musicians. Situated on a top spot, with everything you need nearby.
Location is brilliant as a tourist. Chilled atmosphere in the hotel. Played a game of pool with my friend while chatting to a member of staff. Couldn't recommend enough if you're in Amsterdam.
The hotel was centrally located and offered a great rate with a good breakfast.
Lovely and helpful staff

The location was perfect honestly we were going everywhere by walking we didn’t use any transportation, the staff was nice and friendly. The neighborhood was crowded and nice even late at night.
Our room was at the basement, we had very big luggages that we couldn’t take down because the stairs were not even fitting our feet it was very small, and we could hear every foot steps and every noise from outside of our room. The room was small with a tiny window.
The rooms are very well designed in a rock and roll theme. Our room had a fluorescent star ceiling which was a very welcomed surprise. The staff was also very nice and helpful.
Our room was underground which limited the natural light a lot. The double bed had 2 mattresses with different height levels which was very uncomfortable while sleeping. The bathroom was very cold.
The design of the hotel, the people and the location were really cool!
We were expecting a double bed, not 2 singles pull appart, which made it unconfortable to sleep on for a couple.
Save yourself the stress, money, and disappointment — book literally anywhere else. 1 star is being generous
1 Star - Unacceptable Experience – I Checked Out Within the First HourAs a solo traveler, I booked Backstage Amsterdam hoping for a decent place to rest after a long trip. Unfortunately, this turned out to be one of the worst hotel decisions I’ve ever made.I checked in, walked into my basement-level room, and immediately noticed several serious issues. The window was at street level with no lock and had been left slightly open — anyone passing by on the sidewalk could have easily reached in or climbed through. As a solo traveler, this made me feel extremely unsafe and vulnerable right away. Then there was the noise. The constant, loud construction right outside was deafening — it rattled the entire room. I mentioned to the staff how exhausted I was and how desperately I needed quiet to sleep. Their casual response: “Oh yeah, there’s construction going on.” They even offered me earplugs, which I refused — I shouldn’t have to wear earplugs just to get a basic night’s sleep in a paid hotel room. Besides, the noise was so intense that earplugs wouldn’t have made any meaningful difference anyway.Within the first hour of being there, I raised my concerns about the unsafe window and the unbearable construction noise. Initially the staff had been friendly, but as soon as I expressed dissatisfaction, their attitude flipped to passive-aggressive and rude. They acted like I was unreasonable for expecting a secure, quiet room.I spoke with the manager, explained that I couldn’t possibly stay under these conditions, and he agreed to provide a full refund since I was leaving immediately. However, when I followed up with Booking.com later, they told me no refund request had ever been submitted by the hotel. That felt dishonest and added insult to injury.I did not stay the night — I checked out within the first hour and found somewhere else to go.Bottom line: I strongly advise against booking Backstage Amsterdam, especially if you’re traveling solo.
Location
The bed was very uncomfortable as it basically had what looked to be a slightly oversized mattress pad that felt like it was sliding off all night. The room is tiny with no toilet or shower (as expected when I booked the reservation) but I didn’t expect that the shower would not be on the same floor as my bedroom so I had to walk to a different floor to shower. My last night there consisted of a family with children staying in the room next to me with all sorts of rowdiness and screaming for hours on end. While I understand that you can’t turn people away, this hotel seems more like a hostel and not ideal for families so I was quite surprised to be next to a loud family with children.
Cozy, cool interior design. Friendly staff, especially the tall blond guy (sorry don't know the name!) who was there both we we arrived and when checking out. Sweet gesture that we were met with a hand-written greeting card :)
The room was cleaned just once in the 4 days/ 5 nights we were there, despite my always putting out the sign - only when I specifically asked for this at reception for the next day.The bathroom is really cold. Also just a minor detail, but a couple of hooks on the wall somewhere to hang up the towels next to the shower would make a big difference. The stairs are extremely steep and small. My son slid and slipped down one entire flight - just something to be aware of (and no elevator).
Location and kindness of staff and the style of hotel
Very high stairs and very difficult for carrying the baggage heavy. No much place for makeup things in the washing room
Close to everything and a good place to stay if you're planning to be out a lot. Bar area and decorations are great
Bit noisy when others enter their rooms and walk the stairs. Stairs bit hard to walk
Good location (near from tram station) and friendly staff.
The room is too small to comfortably accommodate for 3 people. The stairs are steep and not recommended for travellers carrying luggage larger than cabin size.
Location is perfect for what a was needing breakfast could improve
Bit noisy with trams traffic and no much sound proofing in the hotel
Excellent location, within 25 minutes' walk of Centraal Station. Rooms are very clean and functional. Staff are consistently helpful, providing great assistance at no extra cost.
The bed was softer than I prefer, but it was fine for a short stay.
Excellent value in a great location near the train station. The room was very clean, and the staff were highly responsive.
The steep Dutch stairs were manageable with light luggage, but could be challenging for anyone with heavy bags.
The location was very good for us.Upon check-in we met Vince at the front desk. He was very friendly and good in recommending places to see and eat. Small talk was also very much appreciated. Our overall experience was very good and we would stay at the Backstage Hotel again.
