Pros +
- This hotel was perfect for us. We just loved the location, the nearby shops, coffee bars, restaurants, the sights, everything. Everything was clean and comfortable. The man who checked us in and out (wish we'd asked him his name) was a delight.
- Very central. The room had everything needed was very quiet, it was clean; the bed was extremely comfortable; the staff was friendly and helpful. They brought up my luggage and brought it down because it was two flights up. It was a 15-minute walk from the station. Very convenient and perfect for what I need.
- Great location snd very comfortable, we ate in the restaurant and it was the best pasta we have ever had, genuinely 10/10 food
Cons -
- Lighting in the bathroom, not ideal to put on your make-up, but hotels rarely get that right.
- No tv in the room but you don’t spend enough time in the room to let it be a problem.
- The bed was very far and none of our side lamps worked (they needed to be charged).

Great location. Lovely staff. Tidy room.

We would absolutely stay at hotel calisto again. The room was lovely, clean and the staff were so friendly. The location is my favourite in Amsterdam and we found it very comfortable and good value for money!
The only downside is that the room was very small and there wasn’t a great deal of space to leave our things/ hang our clothes. But it is clearly stated that it is a small room so this was to be expected.
The room was lovely and in a really quiet part of town with hardly any traffic noise. The hotel is very clean and warm and there are friendly, helpful staff in the restaurant downstairs. Highly recommended.
There wasn’t anything we didn’t like.
Location, atmosphere and attention to details! Lovely place.
We only got hot water from the tap and there was no heating in the bathroom.
Location in excellent. They have a partnership with a coffee shop with provides a nice mug of coffee and some pastry. Steps to the bedroom are steep but it wasn´t a problem for us. They don't have a front rececption for checking-in so we spent some time trying to locate the hotel (go to the restaurant at the corner).
It took some time to figure out how the shower works and how to prevent water getting out the bathroom.
Stayed 1 night midweek in November. Room on second floor overlooking main street. Good location; not noisy at night; clean. No breakfast available but voucher for cafe opposite is a nice touch (check opening hours).
Be aware of narrow steep stairs up as in many locations in Amsterdam. No lift. I did not have any issue as I was travelling with small trolley case and I do not have mobility issues.
The room was ultimately quite cosy for one night, with nice linens and furniture, and our brief interaction with the staff member who gave us our key and explained the check out process was lovely. The instant coffee was delicious, and it was fun to get vouchers to check out Good Beans just across the road, a super nice neighbourhood cafe.
There are a few instances where it didn't meet our expectations. While the furniture was quite stylish, there was no bedside light in our room, which meant only very intense overhead lighting. Nor were the windows double glazed, which honestly for such a busy corner in Amsterdam, I would have expected. There was lovely shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom, and other nice scent additions from Marie-Stella-Maris but there was no soap / body wash in the shower. It just felt extremely barebones, almost like a hostel instead of a hotel. The tap in the bathroom was also very loose and we could only get very hot water. I think with a bit more attention to basic details, it could be a really chic little spot.
It’s a great small hotel in a very bubbly area. Roy was great upon our arrival and made us feel very welcome. We also got a lovely upgrade and made our stay even better! The room was great. Also to mention that the bed is a 10/10. I’ve never slept so well in a hotel. We come out to Amsterdam for a night on a regular basis and this is definitely our new go to hotel!
Very sweet staff. Luckily our room was ready a few hours early (perfect after a long flight). Great use of space. Lots to do around the area. Would stay again.
Overall it was wonderful. There are stairs and a large step up into the shower in my room. Didn't impact me but could impact guests with limited mobility.
Beautiful room. Friendly staff. Great wines and food at the restaurant below the hotel.
The location was excellent and the staff member who checked us in was very friendly.
The carpet in the room was very old, the window barely opened, and the carpet outside the bathroom got wet when you showered. There was a bad smell in the bathroom when we got there and the water in the jug seemed old. The stairs were difficult, but they do show the stairs in the photos so we should have expected this.
The bed was very comfortable, and the location was fairly good. The hotel is about 1 to 1.5 kilometers from the city center, and it is surrounded by several cafés, shops, and useful services, which made moving around the area quite convenient.
However, the hotel has several drawbacks. It is essentially a set of rooms located above a restaurant, with no proper lobby or reception area. There is also no elevator, and the staircase leading to the rooms is extremely narrow, which makes carrying large or heavy luggage quite challenging. The entrance is just a door that takes you directly to the narrow stairs, and each floor contains four very small rooms.
The location was excellent. It was about a 6 minute walk from Amsterdam Central and close to lots of shops, bars and restaurants. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. The shower was a good size and the bed was very comfortable. The staff were really nice and very helpful
We were at the top of the house (Rooms 9 & 10). The stairs leading up to all of the rooms was steep and winding, but the last flight of stairs to our rooms were more like a ladder with carpet on it. They were extremely steep and shallow. These rooms would not suit anybody with mobility issues.
The location was good . The breakfast arrangements with the good bean cafe were good. The design of the building and interior furnishings were stylish
The complimentary water bottle was never refilled over our stay. The tea/coffee set up in the room was poor. We were only allowed one key which was difficult. We struggled to get a booking for dinner in the restaurant . In fairness, after not fitting us in for dinner on the first night they did make a big effort to give us a table the next night and there were plenty of alternate places to eat. The restaurant was very popular .
Friendly staff, clean, close to train station.
Too small and noisy for 200€ a night. Not even a chair to put clothes on.
The place is good and has a good cost-benefits. The bed is really good. The straff is really helpful and it’s great decorated.
The room is really small and the shower is not well located (there’s no box for the shower, you basically wet the entire bathroom during shower).
the location is close to the central station, the staffs are really nice, room is cozy and big enough for two and good breakfast.
the stair is very narrow and steady, not suitable for big luggage
