- The location
- Very poor
- Facilities really good, good transport links. Easy to find
Cons -
- The rudest, worst staff you can imagine. Truly horrible.
- I wasn't satisfied of the common areas, to begin with. There were only two main ones, not very big, and I had nowhere inside where I could do a call (of course I can't in my room where people sleep). The hostel events were not really advertised: I participate to a pub crawl, that I knew about not from the hostel itself, but randomly finding it from an app called Meetup that lists events nearby; no wonder there were only 5 people joining it.The rooms are quite small and crowded, with triple bunk beds. Being on the top one meant it was a mess every time I had to go to the toilet or anything. I also didn't like the room setting, with the sink being outside of the toilet. To add to my luck, I had 2-3 snorers in my room. Being all so close, I could hear them too well and it was a nightmare trying to sleep. The position is mid. 2.5 km from the center, but also not much things to do in the immediate surroundings of the hostel.
- Got charged twice. Hotel said payment hadn't gone through when it had. Luckily booked through booking.com and they helped me get the payment back.

The building and the interior design are really interesting. We really enjoyed the park location and the lovely outlook. It was a good place to stay with my grandson, as despite being a hostel it had a nice family feel (it was half-term).
Some more information in the rooms - for example that you have to book room service, and some sort of local orientation where to find the nearest restaurants/attractions etc.
The location is wonderful on the edge of the Oosterpark - you get a beautiful view of the park from the room. However, this makes the coming and going a little scary in the night when there are not so many people around. The ho(s)tel delivered exactly what it promised - a small room with a private bathroom for a reasonable price.
There was smell of weed coming through the corridor and loud music in the evenings coming from some rooms. I do understand it comes with the type of accommodation, but it certainly did not improve my stay.
Some staff members were really nice
Dirty installations rust on the shower head and the grout lines in the shower are moldy.
Great location, really cool facilities, kind staff, great price and an overall pleasant stay.
I got the top bunk, which didn't have a curtain of its own, so I got little protection (even the kind of subconscious protection a curtain provides) from the noise and lights in the room.
It was far from the city.No towel, dirty rooms not statisfied from my stay.
Compared to other hostels, this one was clean, had large spaces, a good hair dryer, the location was perfect, the rooms had high ceilings and weren't small, and the bathroom was fine.
Compared to other hostels, this one was clean, had large spaces, had a good hair dryer, the location was perfect, the rooms had high ceilings and were not small, and the bathroom was fine.In the restaurant, they don't serve you a glass of water; they show you the tap for cleaning the cutlery and glasses. The tap is on the opposite side from the customer, which makes you think that guests don't always use that tap. Some guests invade your space, and the hallways don't really smell fresh.
Felt reasonably safe and secure, nice location. Comfortable beds and bathroom facilities. Check out was smooth and we were able to extend our parking time, which was very helpful.
The check in process was very slow (despite presubmittting requested details) and we were charged €5 per person for late checkout, not €15 per private room as advertised.
A really interesting, beautiful building and a great atmosphere.
The mattress could be a little more comfy but slept totally fine.
The staff are kind, welcoming and helpful and the cafe and bar are lovely, so convenient to be able to get dinner at the hostel as it’s quite far out of the city, and the food was really good too! The common area has lots of places to sit and it’s a really interesting design, gives the place character, and I never had an issue with the wifi connection. The park just outside is also lovely, and it’s not too far a walk to the tram or train to get you into the centre, with restaurants and shops quite close too.
Unfortunately, the rooms aren’t great. Six people are crammed into as little space as they can possibly get away with, triple bunk beds that are really small. There is almost no space between the beds so only one person can access the “storage” at a time, which is heavy and loud. The bathroom and shower room have no insulation so you can hear everything that happens in there. And having the sink inside the room is really bad design. Not only does it make it perfectly clear how many people do not wash their hands after using the toilet, the noise of having to clean teeth, wash etc at a shared sink within the room is really disruptive. It’s a shame, because otherwise I had a lovely time here, but returning to that dark cramped room every night really put a damper on things.
Was very comfortable and great view on the garden
The distance was a little bit far away from the center
On holidays is too expensive...
Well, the place is clean. I have nothing to complain about except the fact that now everything is so capitalised. No host is actually caring if one comes back or not. I was disappointed because you pay for everything now. There is no intention in assuring that you had a memorable stay. But for me the most significant aspects I didn’t like was I paid too much (maybe holidays season) and still had to pay excessively for some services. The towels, I don’t mind paying but 7€ for a towel is a little too much no? And the bed? I had to do my own bed. They just provided the bedsheets. Soon they will start asking us to take cleaning products and bedsheets since now everything is to pay. And before you call me lazy I don’t mind doing all of that. But if I am paying I except basic things to be provide. And I just can’t with this capitalised world no more. Thanks
Cool location, friendly staff, i really liked the window.
Very small room
Amazing night staff, some people in our group had a problem with some cakes we bought and the staff was supper helpful in solving the problem
It could be more near to the center, expect 30-40 minute walking. Having to buy/rent towels is not great, would add that to the basic package
Good
We noticed that there is no kettle or cutlery provided. Also, our room hasn't been serviced since we arrive.
Nice experience in the pod. Everything clean, friendly and polite staff, good fun with friends.
Quiet, comfortable and clean. Beautiful environment to get together with friends.
The room was really nice and the bathroom was spacious, it has a nice view on the park. The rooms are clean and the beds are too. Plenty of storage
The sink was clogged. Took forever to drain.
Bad
Although I had several pleasant stays at Generator Hostel in December, my overall experience ended very negatively. On the final night of my stay, all of my belongings went missing after housekeeping stripped the bed I was using. This caused significant inconvenience at the time, and unfortunately the situation has never been resolved. Reception staff and housekeeping were unable to locate my belongings, and despite being in contact with the hostel ever since, no solution or compensation has been offered. It has now been one and a half months since the incident, my belongings have not been returned, and I have received no solution from the hostel. The matter remains completely unaddressed. Due to the lack of care for guests’ belongings, the inability to handle such situations responsibly, and the poor customer service surrounding this incident, I would not recommend staying here.
