    Pros +

    • Location and staff are greta
    • The staff were very helpful and friendly. They always did their utmost to make us feel welcome. The breakfast was nice, enough but not over the top. The location is excellent, a 10 minute walk from the Van Gogh museum and 15 minutes from the Rijksmuseum. A 4 to 5 minutes walk to the Tram and lots o great restaurants and pubs in the location, and surrounding areas. Nice neighborhood as well.
    • The room was very spacious, and there was a rooftop terrace - but it needed cleaning anad could have been more inviting.

    Cons -

    • Plumbing
    • The price of the hotel compared to other major cities was a bit pricey, but not out of this world.
    • The shower was awkward and water leaked out the door, but it had a lovely bath.

Perfect location , the size of the room compare to other hotel in Amsterdam were big, dry comfortable mattress !

Clean and comfortable room (with big terrace). Very good breakfast. Awesome location (close to the city center, great area for city walks). Very helpful and friendly staff.

The room needed some repairs (bathroom door could not be closed, the night-stands looked like they were burned with cigarettes by previous guests, the floor next to the bed looked like someone used a pen to poke tens of tiny holes in it). Not a big deal normally, except that for the (very high) price of the room, you expect no such things.

Room had a balcony that had great view to the city. Underground parking available. Good area.

Room wasn’t clean. Shower was poor and water was going out. We had to leave a night early and the staff wasn’t trying to be helpful. Parking was a bit pricey (40€ per night) and kept having problems to go into the parking so had to go into the hotel and ask the staff to open the gate.

    Location

The room was very tiny and uncomfortable, ground floor, my head was almost in the window and people outside were staring at me.

My recent stay at The Grand Hotel Downtown Amsterdam was nothing short of frustrating and disappointing, and I feel compelled to share my experience. From the very beginning, the service was well below standard. The reception staff—specifically during the day—lacked even the most basic hospitality training. There was no greeting, no smile, no sense of professionalism. The receptionist kept turning to laugh with colleagues while speaking to us, which came off as incredibly rude. He constantly interrupted us, talked over our questions, and made it clear he was more interested in rushing us away than helping. As someone who works in the hotel industry myself, I know how telling it is when staff don’t smile, don’t welcome guests properly, and don’t take notes or follow up on calls. These are the absolute basics—especially when you're the first point of contact at a hotel.Partly due to the cold and untrustworthy welcome we received, we actually kept the Do Not Disturb sign on our door for the entire duration of our stay. We didn’t want anyone entering the room while we were gone out of concern we might come back to find something missing. After checking out, I realized I had left a fairly large and easily identifiable item—a Boom 2 speaker—on the table in our room. Both my friend and I remember clearly seeing it before we left, and my last Bluetooth connection to the speaker was at the hotel, confirming its location.I immediately called and spoke to the same receptionist. He said he’d check with housekeeping and call me back. Two hours went by—nothing. I called again, and he had no memory of my previous call, my name, what room I was in, or what I’d forgotten. I had to explain everything from scratch. Only at the end did he casually say, “Oh yeah, I’ll ask and call you back.”Still no call.I called again, and a different receptionist picked up. Once again, no idea what I was talking about but promised to check with her colleague and call me back.

Great location in central downtown Amsterdam away from the throngs of tourists.

    The weather!

    6ZoéPosted on: 6-9-2025

we liked that it was ex- centered but still accessible.

The restaurant was unavailable and we weren’t aware. As a person with lots of dietary restrictions, the staff was not helpful when it came to recommend breakfast or dinner options.

    7BrucePosted on: 5-25-2025

    Centrally located

As an American visiting, the entrance was confusing. Not obvious as in America.

    5GunayPosted on: 4-27-2025

    Close to center

Room was very small. Uncomfortable move in the room.

    5KairienePosted on: 4-27-2025

The hotel is in good location

It wasn't very clean, you could see dust in some places. The air-conditioning in the room was very loud and we couldn't turn it of. Wall paper pilling in some places and you can see mole coming through. Our room was next to entrance door and every time someone walked in we could hear it and our room door slammed because of the wind. I wouldn't stay there again and I would give the hotel no more then 3star so people don't get confused.

    7SarahPosted on: 4-19-2025

It was just outside the city centre and is easily accessible by tram

The rooms were small and basic

    8MelissaPosted on: 4-18-2025

The hotel room was very cosy and nice for a couple. Staff were very friendly. Was a nice walk out of the centre so not too busy but also not too far.

The bathroom smelt like eggs and was extremely hot most of the time.

    5ShailendraPosted on: 4-17-2025

    Was in good location

The room was very noisy, it might be because of its closeness to main entrance
