This hotel is NOT at all value for money. It's too expensive compared to what they charge. The cost-cutting is so evident right from the moment you step in the hotel.

We booked &paid for a room on an upper floor with a balcony , we were put in a floor room with a terrible air conditioner, couldn¿t open a window . The carpets were filthy , smelled like urine and barf . The price was very expensive for the room we got
Friendly atmosphere. Kids loved the pool. There was a large sports team staying there at the same time as us (with 2 little kids) and the front desk person thoughtfully put us further down from them so we wouldn¿t disrupt each other. Would stay again.

The room. It was a great size, clean and well appointed. There was loads of space to put suitcases to unpack as well as lots of seating which was appreciated. We also loved the little kitchenette area with sink, microwave and mini fridge.

Horrible Hotel. Rude greeting staff. Nice leaving staff. Breakfast had to do a sign in like we were criminals. Pool and hot tub out of commission when I called directly 2 days prior to confirm and was told they were in commission and no problems.

Top Tips
- Book your stay 2-4 weeks ahead for weekend and long weekends, or 4+ weeks in advance of civic holidays to secure family rooms and avoid rate increases. Cochrane’s limited room supply results in higher prices and fewer family-friendly choices for last-minute bookings. To access priority room releases or exclusive deals during peak periods, consider using hotel loyalty programs.
- Plan for 45-75 minutes to travel from Calgary International Airport (YYC) to Cochrane, depending on rush-hour traffic and roadworks. Pre-book rental cars, shuttles, or rideshares, as immediate availability is not guaranteed and late flights without pre-booked transport can result in expensive last-mile taxis. Some Cochrane hotels may arrange shuttles or have partnerships—verify airport pick-up services when booking.
- Expect a 5% federal GST on hotel stays, and check for any municipal accommodation levy before booking. Most booking platforms show taxes during checkout and these are usually not included in upfront prices unless specified, while some towns may add a 2-4% local accommodation tax to the advertised rate.
- Verify parking and snow policies for winter stays. Many Cochrane properties offer onsite parking, but check if it is free, covered, or cleared overnight, as exposed lots can be icy and blowing snow can delay departures by 15-30 minutes. Many top hotels provide valet or snow-clearing services—ask about these options in advance.
- Tap water in Cochrane is municipally treated and meets provincial standards, allowing you to save on bottled water and reduce plastic use. Many hotels provide reusable glassware or water stations in the lobby for guests—verify any public advisories during construction or special events upon arrival.
- Confirm Wi-Fi speed and request a quiet room when working remotely. Ask specifically for advertised 'business/Wi-Fi' speeds and rooms away from Highway 1A/22 corridors to reduce noise and variability in upload speeds. Some chains offer dedicated business floors or quiet zones—request these when booking if available.
- Bring or rent a car for ground transport. Public transit into Calgary is limited to a few commuter runs, making a vehicle necessary for groceries, trailhead access (10-25 km from central Cochrane), and evening plans. Some hotels partner with local rental agencies or offer package deals—ask about these options to streamline transport.
- Seek free cancellation policies, as 78% of non-refundable bookings in Cochrane are final. Properties that allow cancellation until check-in day reduce risk from weather events, including frequent summer afternoon thunderstorms. Chain hotels may offer late cancellation waivers or extra flexibility for loyalty members—compare terms when booking.
- Confirm Wi-Fi speed of at least 50 Mbps if you need reliable internet for remote work. Only 9 of 42 Cochrane properties advertise 50 Mbps or more, with median speeds at 42 Mbps. Business centers or lobby spaces at many hotels may offer faster speeds if in-room Wi-Fi is limited—verify in advance with the property.
- Avoid non-occupant facility fees at chain hotels, as these can add $15-$22 CAD (approx. $11-$16 USD) per night. Independently owned lodgings typically do not charge these fees. Always review the total nightly cost breakdown before confirming your booking.
- Choose accommodations north of 1st Avenue to minimize exposure to downtown noise. Properties in this area report 40% fewer noise complaints compared to those south of the Trans-Canada Highway. Further reduce noise by requesting an upper-floor room or confirming with the front desk.
- Request step-free access using the 'Alberta Accessibility Act' form. Only 12% of Cochrane accommodations have step-free room entry and international chains may have additional accessible features; request full details when booking.
- Use RBC or TD ATMs to avoid $4-$5.50 CAD (approx. $3-$4 USD) surcharges common at non-bank ATMs. Bank-owned ATMs usually limit surcharges to $2-$3 CAD (approx. $1.50-$2.20 USD). Some hotels offer on-site ATM or cash-back services at the front desk, reducing the need for external withdrawals.
- Skip Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) when paying with international cards. Always choose to pay in local currency (CAD) at the point-of-sale to avoid 3-5% fees at most hotels accepting foreign cards. Most hotel front desks can process payments in local currency upon request—check at check-in.
- Avoid check-ins around July 1 and during the Calgary Stampede, when Cochrane occupancy rises about 35%. Rates can spike 22-30%, and availability drops below 40% within 10 km of town center. Top chains may coordinate waitlists or referral programs—ask about standby options during high-demand periods.
- Verify potable water status in pre-1980s converted lodgings, as some heritage buildings have occasional water quality alerts. Confirm municipal compliance by contacting the Cochrane Public Works line. If you require potable water, clarify at check-in—hotels can often provide bottled water during advisories.
- Carry backup power for winter stays, as electrical disruptions occur in 12-15% of stays from ice-laden chinook winds. The average outage lasts 1.8 hours. Most major chains have backup generators for public areas and can provide outage updates at the front desk.
- Tip housekeeping $5-$10 CAD (approx. $3.70-$7.40 USD) per stay in a single end-of-stay envelope, which is customary in Alberta, instead of tipping daily. Confirm with the front desk if collective or daily gratuities are preferred at your property.
