. Cold and dry Burritos. Restaurant food not good. Dry pot roast. Warm white wine.
Breakfast was OK. Barking dog after 10 pm was not fun. Waiting over 20 minutes to check in after driving for 6 hrs not fun. Raw food in restaurant and very long wait to redo dinner not fun. People were friendly and nice. Waitress spent too much time on her cell phone while we waited for her attention.

Missed the breakfast. Room a bit small.

Delicious fresh fruit; loved the thr tamale and peach smoothie.
Guests' dogs barking.
Breakfast was better than expected with eggs and bacon. Hotel was a very neat little place. Courtyard was pretty. Housekeeper Angela? Was very nice and went out of her way to accommodate us.
Front desk staff was not very friendly. Bell cart tires were flat and hard to use for moving luggage. Coke machine was empty.
Liked the lobby decor.Saw such gorgeous pix online, so i thought the rooms would be as unique as the lobby, but the rooms seemed a little tight, and they were pretty plain.
This is a beautiful hotel with lots of history. As a bonus, the beds are super comfortable. If you don’t want to camp but you want to see Guadalupe Mountains National Park, this is a great place to stay.
Van Horn has a limited selection of restaurants.
Its proximity to the Guadalupe Mountains and the history of the hotel.
The food in the restaurant was ok.
Fantastic property located just off the 10 between San Antonio and Tucson in Van Horn, Texas. Not much going in town, but a perfect overnight stay while traveling. Hotel El Capitan is a little paradise with its beautiful courtyard, fantastic staff, and yummy options for dinner! Even got to enjoy some wonderful life music in the courtyard. Our room had a little courtyard and room was standard size, but bed was very comfortable and all we needed for overnight. Also love the option that they were dog friendly and very welcoming.
Clean, restaurant and bar, decor, historical
Bed was surprisingly comfy. I normally don't like hotel beds because they are too firm. The bed here had a nice amount of give and I slept comfortably through the night.Unlike dinner the evening before, breakfast on my way out was quite good. Fluffy well cooked scrambled eggs and thin well cooked bacon.
had dinner in the restaurant and the food was abysmal particularly given the price. I ordered pot roast which was around $25. the meat was dry, the gravy lumpy and clearly reheated in microwave. If not for the overly salted gravy, the meal would have been utterly tasteless. I ate just enough to get me through to next day. Waitress commented was I full? I said yes to be polite, but ordered pie which was also microwaved within an inch of its life. There was an odd odor in the hallways and room. became nose blind pretty quickly I guess as it didn't bother long.
The room was big, and the patio was delightful.
Outside door was open, not locked, instead of needing a key card to gain access to the building .
Very accommodating in every aspect, nice (and very convenient) restaurant, friendly and helpful staff.
There was no water. It had been off all day. Thus there was no hot h20 and wouldn't be for quite awhile,to heat back up!The grab for at least us,was the Hotels catch phrase Come Eat ,Drink, then Stay! That is why we chose El Capitan..Well the restaurant was not open ,due to the no water situation!!!! Thus no drinks as well.We told the lovely desk clerk Hayes that we. Didn't want to stay under the circumstances. He said he totally understood. He said we wouldn't be charged. He did the right thing. He also said get in touch with Booking.com and let them know.We sent them numerous texts to the circumstances. They said they couldn't or wouldn't not put through the charge of 190.00.Thanks Booking.com for ?????Exactly.Nowater wasn't the Hotels fault.Being crazy was Booking.com s fault!!!!
The historic aesthetic and the impressive efforts made to honor the property
There is a train that runs through town at night.
What a beautiful hotel. Food was great and the staff very helpful. Really enjoyed our short stay. Wish it was on our travel route more often.
Weather - not your fault. Couldn't use the patio.
Hotel El Capitan is a historic hotel that has been restored perfectly. We loved it. Our room 145 was very nice with a private patio. Bed is very comfortable. The bar and restaurant are very good and the staff friendly and efficient. Good value as well.
All was great.
