About

The Gunter Hotel San Antonio Riverwalk, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel San Antonio is located in downtown San Antonio and across the street from the scenic San Antonio River Walk. After undergoing a $50 million renovation, the new iteration of the 116 year old hotel is modernized with new bathrooms, mid-century inspired fixtures, rich color palates and more. As a nod to Blues legend Robert Johnson, who recorded his first album at the hotel in 1936, each room is equipped with a record player and a copy of his first record. The hotel also features a vinyl library in the lobby that guests can take advantage of during their stay. This revitalization includes four new dining and bar concepts, a cutting-edge recording studio, and modern amenities while preserving the Gunter's rich heritage and historic significance. Guests can begin the day with a morning workout in the fitness center, or take a refreshing swim in the heated pool. For banquets and conferences, Gunter Hotel offers over 20,000 square-feet of meeting space. A unique 1920’s style barber shop is also available on-site. The Gunter Hotel, famously known as the center of everything, is less than a mile away from the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center and across the street from the Majestic Theater.

    Location

We did not have any air conditioning in our hotel. There were no rooms to switch us to. The temperature got to almost 77 degrees in the room before they brought us one box fan. Two elevators were down causing lines for elevators to be 30+ min one way.

Staff in daytime time not to friendly.

The hotel needs painting & updating. It smells when you walk in hotel. Carpet needs to be replaced. Very dated hotel.

Front desk staff was HORRIBLE. Rude, untimely, and down right negative.

    10JohnPosted on: 1-8-2024

The historicity of the hotel, the knowledgeable and professional staff as well as the overall ambiance of the property. I will definitely book a room here again in the future. The hotel is beautiful, well-maintained and features many original fixtures.

Service and staff (housekeeping could use some help).

Lack of thorough bathroom cleaning. No ice on floor.

    10Verified Hotel GuestPosted on: 9-8-2023

GREAT staff, very clean, nice bar and small restaurant on site. Other than the room was a little dated it was perfect for our 3 night stay. Hop On /Off bus stop right outside the door. Only 2-3 block walk to everything.

    5Verified Hotel GuestPosted on: 8-8-2023

Staff was very nice. Lobby area was very pretty.

Room was so small the chair for the desk couldn¿t even be pulled out all the way. Queen bed was not very comfortable and the room finishes extremely dated. Valet at $44 was a bit much. Homeless problem in area was so sad, but I think that¿s any city.

    9ManuelPosted on: 7-25-2023

Very great location, nice lobby amd staff

Only parking is Valet, room a little dirty with a pair of used socks on side of the bed when arrived, dim lighting

    10SantosPosted on: 7-25-2023

It's old character it had was interesting.

Just wish the parking area was larger. Had to park city garage close by because it was full at check in time.

    5JoycePosted on: 7-18-2023

the lobby was beautiful, the bed was comfortable, the bed was warm

Our TV did not work and the outside noise was so loud in our room that we did not get good sleep.
