Top Tips
- Book 30-60 days ahead for weekend stays during Hershey events, or 60-90 days for major concerts or holidays, to avoid 20-100% rate increases.
- Consider Amtrak’s Keystone Corridor from Middletown station for travel between Harrisburg and Philadelphia to avoid driving on I-283 or I-83.
- Set your expectations for local drives: central Middletown is about 10-15 minutes from Harrisburg International Airport (MDT), 12-18 minutes from Hershey attractions, and 15-20 minutes from downtown Harrisburg during off-peak times. Traffic can be heavier during Hershey events or Penn State football weekends, so allow extra time and confirm accessible parking at your destination if needed.
- Use a car or pre-booked transfer, as local transit is limited. Taxis or rideshares from MDT to Middletown usually cost $25-$40 and take 10-20 minutes.
- Pennsylvania charges a 6% sales tax on hotel rooms, and additional local occupancy or municipal hotel taxes may apply. Always verify the total cost when booking to avoid surprises.
- Request a room on an upper floor or facing away from I-283 or Route 230 to reduce highway noise. For accessible room features such as step-free access or visual alarms, confirm availability when booking, as options vary by property.
- Confirm pet and extra-bed fees in advance; most local chains charge $15-$40 per night or a nonrefundable cleaning fee for pets. Registered service animals are exempt from these fees by law.
