It was the last available hotel room in Ely for four people. The balcony had a nice view of the lake and the private entrance was handy. It was functional for an overnight stay before launching our canoe/camping trip. It was good to have the kitchenet.

Nice and helpful staff. Good breakfast. Very comfortable room at a competitive price.
Reasonable Price. Spotless. Friendly staff.
Staff were excellent- very nearly superior to most other lodgings we have encountered. We met the manager when we checked-in. We then met afternoon and overnight staff, as well as one housekeeping staff, and all were kind, friendly and proficient.

Great breakfast
This hotel was better than expected. We chose a handicap room and actually got a walk in shower, which is what we were hoping for. I am very unsteady on my feet & it is hard to step into a tub & I can't sit in a tub, so this was perfect.

The staff were very friendly and the hotel was very clean. Great location next to many retail stores and restaurants.
Clean, working bathroom. Very nice rooms and we were upgraded without extra cost.
The hotel was neat and clean. I wasnt able to screen cast to the TV, but that wasn't a big deal. The rooms are big and comfortable.

Top Tips
- Book your stay 2-4 weeks before July weekends and mid-September to secure the lowest non-refundable rates in Virginia, MN. Room supply is limited, so prices often jump close to local events or holidays. Booking directly with the hotel may offer more flexibility for changes. Monitor local event calendars such as Iron Range festivals to anticipate demand spikes.
- For the shortest drive to Virginia, MN, fly into Range Regional Airport (HIB) in Hibbing, about 20-30 miles (25-35 minutes) away. Duluth International (DLH) is further at 60-75 miles (1-1.5 hours). Compare current flight schedules, and check availability of ground transportation options such as taxi, rideshare, or car rental at both airports, as rideshares may be limited in the evening. Contact your hotel in advance to ask if they offer a shuttle service.
- Stay on US-53 or within 0.5-1 mile of downtown Virginia, MN, to be within a 10-20 minute walk of the Hull-Rust-Mahoning Mine Overlook and major restaurants. This minimizes evening driving since late-night dining options are limited. If you need step-free access, confirm accessible routes or ADA-accessible rooms when booking, as older hotels may not offer full accessibility.
- When visiting Virginia, MN, from November to March, add 20-45 minutes to your regional drive time due to snow and icy roads. Request an interior-corridor room to reduce cold and wind noise. Ask the hotel about heated entryways or boot-drying racks, which are often available at Northern Minnesota properties.
- Verify Wi-Fi speeds with your Virginia, MN, hotel by asking for measured upload and download figures, as typical shared plans range from 25-100 Mbps. Request a top-floor room near the lobby or main router for the best signal, especially if remote work is essential. For backup, check mobile data coverage (LTE or 5G) with your carrier, as connectivity may vary in the area.
- Plan for earlier restaurant closings in Virginia, MN, outside summer, as many close by 8-9 PM. Carry basic groceries or confirm if your hotel offers vending machines, a mini-fridge, or a 24/7 snack pantry for arrivals after 9 PM, since 24-hour dining is rare. If needed, check local grocery store hours to ensure food access after hours.
- Check your Virginia, MN, hotel's parking policy for free versus metered options and ask about snow-removal schedules, since heavy snow can block cars overnight. Request a space near building exits if you have early departure plans or accessibility needs. If you do not have a snow brush, ask the hotel front desk if they provide one; some hotel chain loyalty programs also offer parking perks.
