The hotel staff was friendly and accommodating. We checked in an hour early. The room had plenty of clean towels. We only stayed one night as this was not our final destination. Staying one night was fine.
It is very clean with great rooms and staff.

It's one of the stinkiest hotels I've ever been to. My suitcase still smells like that hotel. It's super OLD, and seems like it's haunted too. The breakfast there is a joke.
It was not to my satisfaction The lady was kinda rude The breakfast was included but she said it was not. You weee afraid to make any noise The rooms were so so small for the price . Not happy
The hotel was unique and colorful. There is a kitchen area for guests and the coffee was excellent. The complementary crepes was a nice touch. I think the hotel was going for a shabby chic but felt like a bunch of junk to me.

Hampton Inn is a trusted brand and the price for this weekend stay was as good or better than some other "budget" brands nearby. The room was spacious and well-appointed. Breakfast was very good with a variety of choices.

Staggeringly comfortable, luxuriously appointed room! Very comfortable bed and super-modern bathroom. Enjoyable patio. Also, the room service was stellar. I liked the mixed drinks they had in the minibar. Very nice!
The grounds, the bikes that you were able to "rent" the bar/restaurant on site was very convenient, the self parking was a little stressful but we found parking right in front of our hotel the last day.

Top Tips
- Book your Petaluma hotel 4-6 weeks ahead for the Sonoma-Marin Fair in September to avoid 35-50% rate surges, with average prices rising from $160-$220 USD to $280-$330 USD. If primary hotels are booked, consider nearby towns or rentals, and check for flexible cancellation policies in case event dates change.
- Always select USD when prompted at hotel kiosks to avoid Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) markups of 3-5%, which can add $15 to $18 USD on a $300 transaction. Front desk staff can assist if you are unsure about which currency option to choose.
- Prioritize downtown properties within 800 meters of the Petaluma Historical Museum for improved walkability; this location puts you within a 10-minute walk of 90% of local restaurants, grocery stores, and transit stops. For guests with mobility needs or heavy luggage, check if your hotel provides a shuttle within the downtown area.
- Request rooms on upper floors at the Flamingo Conference Resort & Spa to reduce noise exposure; ground-floor rooms average 55-60 dBA at night near US-101, while upper floors are quieter at 42-46 dBA. Upper-floor rooms may also offer better views; if you need accessibility, request an accessible upper-floor room in advance.
- Verify if your lodging includes the Sonoma County Transient Occupancy Tax (SOT) at 10.5%, as some smaller inns may add $17-$23 USD to a $160-$220 USD night. The SOT applies only to the room rate; request an itemized bill at check-in to confirm tax inclusion.
- Choose properties with fiber-backed Wi-Fi speeds of 150 Mbps or higher for reliable remote work. In Petaluma, brands like Hampton Inn and Metro Hotel consistently deliver these speeds, though 60% of properties advertise high-speed Wi-Fi.
- Avoid weekend check-ins during the Cotati Jazz Festival each July, as staffing shifts can increase average front-desk check-in times from 5 to 28 minutes. Use online check-in where available to reduce wait times, especially at major hotel chains.
- Confirm step-free access at historic inns built before 1940, since 70% lack elevators and only 3 of 14 have ADA-compliant entry ramps. Contact the hotel before arrival to verify accessibility features, and request a ground-floor room if step-free access is limited.
- Use PG&E outage maps to assess power reliability during Santa Ana wind events from October to March, as outages affect 15-20% of Sonoma County grid zones and average 1.2 outages per month in Petaluma during peak season. Some hotels provide backup generators or guest power banks; confirm these amenities in advance.
- Skip tourist-area gift shops for bottled water and buy a 24-pack for $3.99 USD at Costco (100 N McDowell Blvd) for significant savings over downtown retailers who charge $1.50-$2.25 USD per bottle. Before purchasing, check if your hotel offers complimentary bottled water as an amenity.
- Do not leave food in your hotel room; 42% of pest incidents in Sonoma County are linked to high rodent activity, but using sealed containers can reduce infestation reports by 68%. Use in-room refrigerators if available, and check with the hotel about pest prevention protocols.
- Tip housekeeping $5-$10 USD per night, as 85% of full-service hotels add an 18% service fee that does not include this gratuity. Tipping is optional and can reflect service quality; verify service charge details at your hotel for clarity.
