Reasonable sized room for Italy. Hot water pot. Comfortable bed. Even with the road below us, with the window shut it was quiet. Easy to a short bus ride to the waterfront and have dinner. Staff very helpful. One night stay - fine.

The original hotel apparently was fully book, so they upgrade us to a five star hotel. Grand Hotel Savoia part of the same group. So the hotel was great, beautiful views from the jacuzzis and bar on the ok floor

Top Tips
- Confirm if your hotel offers an airport shuttle and whether fees apply. Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport to the city center is typically €20-30 (about $22-33 USD) by taxi. For budget travel, Volabus public buses run direct to major stations; schedules are limited after 22:00, so check for late arrivals.
- Plan for the 'tassa di soggiorno' tourist tax of €1-4 (approx. $1.10-4.40 USD) per person, per night, collected at hotel check-out. This is standard across Italy and is required regardless of hotel chain.
- Italian law requires hotels to collect guest identification at check-in. Bring a valid passport or EU national ID and present it on arrival to expedite your registration.
- If renting or driving, ask your hotel to register your license plate for Zona a Traffico Limitato (ZTL) access. Unregistered vehicles in Genoa's restricted traffic zones may be fined by camera.
- Check recent guest reviews for noise impact, especially if staying near nightlife in the old town or by the airport. Request a high-floor or interior room for quieter stays; Genoa enforces quiet hours ('riposo') from 13:00-16:00 and after 22:00.
- Learn key Italian phrases such as 'Buongiorno' (good morning) and 'Grazie' (thank you); local staff appreciate this even in larger hotels where English is common. It's especially valued at smaller, family-run B&Bs.
- Genoa's terrain is steep and cobbled, so pack supportive shoes for walking through 'caruggi' alleys. If accessibility is needed, confirm elevator access and room configuration, as some older structures are not fully step-free.
- Ask about your hotel's luggage storage options, as space in smaller properties may be limited. This can maximize your sightseeing on arrival or departure days.
- Check the breakfast schedule, as many Italian hotels offer a continental breakfast ending by 10:00. Some feature Ligurian specialties such as focaccia, so ask at check-in for local options.
- Verify check-in and check-out times, as smaller Genoa hotels may have fixed hours. Properties near the port or fairgrounds tend to accommodate varied schedules for business travelers.
- Select hotel location based on priorities. Centro Storico provides access to sights like Porto Antico and the Aquarium; Brignole and Piazza Principe are key rail hubs; portside hotels are closest to cruise terminals. This can reduce transport time to under 15 minutes for key attractions.
- Cruise passengers should confirm late luggage storage or shuttle options to the port. Some hotels near train stations offer direct bus or transfer services for embarkation day.
- Book your hotel early for summer stays (June-August) or during large Genoa events like the International Boat Show, as rates and occupancy usually peak 4-8 weeks out.
- Clarify cancellation, late check-in, and early departure policies before booking, especially at airport hotels. Flight delays may affect your stay, and the most flexible options may allow changes up to 24 hours before arrival.
- Review current guest ratings on Wi-Fi reliability before booking, as speeds and connectivity can be inconsistent in historic buildings and older hotels.
- Ask hotel staff for up-to-date local recommendations. Many provide maps and advice on using 'caruggi' alleys or suggest authentic Ligurian restaurants outside tourist-heavy areas.
- Explore options for sea-view rooms or rooftop terraces. Several Genoa hotels feature spaces overlooking the harbor, which can enhance your stay with panoramic views of the city and coastline.
