Reasonable sized room for Italy. Hot water pot. Comfortable bed. Even with the road below us, with the window shut it was quiet. Easy to a short bus ride to the waterfront and have dinner. Staff very helpful. One night stay - fine.

Wonderful location. Nice hotle. Great people.
There isn't anything not to like. I did not see on your website that you should book the car parking in advance for the garage. Upon arrival it could have been a huge problem for us, however employee at the Front Desk was most, most helpful to remedy .

Top Tips
- Book at least 2 to 4 weeks ahead for popular Genoa events. Hotels near Genova Brignole or Piazza Principe provide direct station access within 500 m, while Porto Antico puts you 200 m from the Aquarium and seafront attractions. Quieter options in Albaro or Nervi offer seaside stays 6 to 9 km from the historic center. Rates can increase by 20% or more during the Boat Show or Rolli Days, so confirm cancellation flexibility if your plans may change.
- Always verify ZTL (Zona a Traffico Limitato) entry rules before driving in Genoa, as the historic center restricts vehicles daily. If arriving by car, request your hotel to register your license plate for ZTL access or provide garage directions to avoid fines, which can exceed €80 (approx. $87 USD as of mid-2024).
- Parking in central Genoa is limited and fees for private garages typically range €20-28 (approx. $22-$30 USD) per day. Reserve early if you need a space; most hotels outside the ZTL can suggest licensed garages within 300 m.
- Historic Genoese hotels often use converted palazzi with steep stairs and lifts under 1 meter wide or none at all. If step-free access or an elevator is essential, confirm availability and request an accessible or ground-floor room when booking.
- Summer temperatures in Genoa regularly reach 30°C (86°F) with 60 to 80% humidity. Check that your room has air conditioning and verify Wi-Fi strength in guest reviews; some older B&Bs may provide only partial coverage or fans.
- Italian law requires hotels in Genoa to register guest IDs, so bring a valid passport or EU identity card. Keep a digital copy handy in case of loss or for quick reference during repeated check-ins.
- Most Genoa hotels add a city tax (tassa di soggiorno) of €1.50 to €4 per person nightly depending on the category. This is collected at check-in; verify the charge in your reservation summary to avoid surprises.
- Many B&Bs and boutique hotels in Genoa lock doors after 20:00. If arriving late by train or ferry, notify your property in advance so they can hold your room and provide entry instructions.
- Hotel concierges can arrange train tickets, secure taxi bookings, and reserve seasonally operating ferries to Portofino or Cinque Terre (April to October). Check with your hotel for specific tour schedules or Rolli palazzi openings.
- Most hotels offer complimentary or low-cost luggage storage before check-in or after checkout, typically €2-5 (approx. $2-5 USD) per bag if not free. Confirm availability if you have an early arrival or late departure.
- Breakfast service in Genoa typically runs from 07:00 to 10:00. Italian colazione often means coffee and pastries; if you prefer a savory or early breakfast, request details and confirm options with your hotel.
- Many Genoa restaurants close from 15:00-19:00 and kitchens stop accepting orders after 22:00. For late arrivals, ask your hotel to recommend or reserve a nearby venue with late service.
- Genoa stations, markets, and Porto Antico can get crowded. Use hotel safes for passports and valuables, and carry only small amounts of cash. Pickpocketing is most common at Principe, Brignole, and major tourist sites.
- Family amenities like cribs, extra beds, or connecting rooms are limited in many Genoese palazzi hotels. Request family rooms and accessibility features such as step-free entry when booking, and confirm with the hotel due to high demand.
- Hotels near the port (within 700 m of Stazione Marittima) can advise on ferry departures and often provide luggage transfer or shuttle services for Cinque Terre connections. Confirm availability in advance, especially in summer.
- Genoa hotels usually accept Visa and Mastercard, but small B&Bs may request cash for some charges. If traveling for business, request a full invoice (fattura) at check-in, as Italian law sometimes requires pre-authorization.
- Residential quiet hours in Genoa commonly run from 22:00-07:00. Reduce noise on staircases and balconies, as many palazzi share walls with local families.
- Sample Ligurian culinary traditions with focaccia, trofie al pesto, or farinata. Mercato Orientale (1.3 km from Piazza De Ferrari) is open 07:00 to 19:30. Many hotels can book food tours or recommend area bakeries if asked at check-in.
- Greet staff with 'Buongiorno' before noon or 'Buonasera' after. This is a valued Italian hospitality custom, and a handshake plus a smile are also appreciated.
- Tipping is not obligatory in Italy. Round up your bill or leave €1-5 (approx. $1-5 USD) for bellhops or housekeeping. Service is often included on restaurant bills ('servizio incluso'); check your receipt to verify.
- For churches and fine dining in Genoa, dress codes apply. Cover shoulders and knees for religious sites, and choose business casual business attire at restaurants with tablecloths. Check with the venue if unsure.
- Most staff at larger Genoa hotels speak English, but small B&Bs may not. Learn essential Italian phrases or use a translator app to ensure smooth check-in and confirm breakfast hours.
- Genoa’s historic center is hilly, with caruggi (alleys) as narrow as 1.5 m and many stairs. If mobility is a concern, choose accommodations within 400 m of your main interest points such as the Aquarium or Via Garibaldi.
- Trains for day trips to Cinque Terre depart every 30 to 60 minutes from Genova Brignole and Principe. Ferries to Portofino or Camogli leave April to October from Porto Antico at least 3 times daily, weather permitting. Check schedules onsite.
- Staying within 500 m of Porto Antico offers pedestrian access to major sights and nightlife. For solo or late-night arrivals, use licensed taxis (ask your hotel or call Radio Taxi at 010.5966). Select properties with 24-hour staffed reception for added safety.
- Families benefit from hotels 250 m from the Aquarium or Porto Antico and 400 m from Brignole for park access. Request cots, family rooms, and early breakfast in advance, and bring a lightweight stroller suitable for cobblestones.
- Business travelers find meeting facilities and Wi-Fi at central hotels near Piazza Giulia or Principe, which are under 10 minutes by taxi to Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport, costing about €25 (approx. $27 USD). Request a formal invoice (fattura) if you need one.
