Nice hotel in a good, quiet location. Room had a small kitchen with everything that was needed to prepare small meals. Breakfast was available every morning, but you had to be sure to get items when first put out because food got cold very quickly.

Top Tips
- Book your hotel 2-3 months ahead for summer and winter peak seasons, as rates and room availability can shift quickly, especially near downtown and event venues. Compare rates for chain properties and local boutique hotels early to secure the best options.
- Durango–La Plata County Airport (DRO) is about 20-25 minutes from downtown by car. Pre-arrange your ground transport—rental cars, official airport shuttles, and local taxis are reliable, but rideshare services like Uber may be limited after 21:00.
- Durango’s elevation is about 6,500 feet (2,000 m); to avoid altitude sickness, drink extra water, minimize alcohol on your first day, and opt for gentle activities like swimming in the hotel pool or a short walk nearby.
- Many hotels near Purgatory Resort and downtown offer secure storage and drying for skis, bikes, or rafting gear. Ask at check-in about gear storage and overnight access.
- Parking downtown can be limited or metered, so verify with your hotel if onsite parking is available and whether there are daily fees, usually $15 to $20 in central areas.
- State and local lodging taxes add about 10% or more to your nightly rate, and some hotels list extra resort or parking fees. Review your booking summary before confirming to see the full charges.
- Ask hotel staff about less-crowded hiking trails, preferred rafting outfitters, or guided brewery tours. Check for schedules for the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, which runs seasonally and attracts visitors from across the U.S.
- Most major and boutique hotels in Durango accept dogs or cats for an added nightly fee, often $15 to $50. Request the property's pet policy in advance and confirm pet-friendly room availability for your stay.
- Mountain weather in Durango shifts fast, so pack layers and high-SPF sun protection. Temperatures can vary 15-25°F (8-14°C) between day and night, and UV intensity is stronger at 6,500 feet.
- Check if your hotel provides a shuttle or discounts for local attractions. Partnerships with the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad or Purgatory Resort may help you save up to 15% on transport or tickets.
- Standard U.S. tipping applies: give bell staff $15 per bag and housekeeping $15 per night. In on-property restaurants, leave 15-20% of your total bill for servers.
- Colorado law prohibits public cannabis use, including in hotel rooms or balconies. Confirm your hotel’s smoking and vaping policy to avoid cleaning fees or penalties, as most hotels ban cannabis use onsite.
- Mountain weather and travel delays happen; check your hotel’s cancellation terms before booking. Choose a refundable or flexible rate if your itinerary could change.
