The hotel is old (read no AC... which we imagine is not needed very often) but is very well cared for, but it took us a day to really appreciate it's beauty and charm. The staff was very friendly and made us feel welcomed.

Hotel is furnished nicely & is in a very quiet location. The breakfast is the BEST with a huge variety of items that change each day. The homemade cookies and helpful staff are also a nice touch.

Top Tips
- For major events like Way Out West (August), secure your hotel 6 to 12 weeks in advance; for the Göteborg Film Festival (late January), 4 to 6 weeks is often enough. Central hotels regularly sell out or restrict flexible bookings during these periods, with average rates rising by over 20%. Check event-specific policies or packages, as some hotels may include extras like shuttles or early breakfast.
- Join loyalty programs like Scandic Friends or Nordic Choice Club to access member rates and in-stay perks. Scandic and Nordic Choice (Clarion/Comfort) collectively provide the widest hotel coverage in Gothenburg, often offering late checkout or room upgrades. Earning points from direct bookings can lead to free nights or experiences.
- Discover better restaurant value and independent hotels in Linné or Majorna, or choose Nordstaden or Haga for access within a 5 to 15 minute walk to Central Station and ferry terminals. This allows convenience for dining and local transport. Ask the hotel front desk about current neighborhood dining or activity highlights.
- Historic Haga and many central buildings may lack step-free access and elevators due to their age. Always request both 'step-free entrance + elevator' and confirm room door width if you need an accessible room. Many international hotel chains in Gothenburg implement higher accessibility standards; contact guest services if you have mobility needs.
- Swedish hotel prices generally include 12% VAT. This is reflected in the displayed room rate, but when comparing with international sites, double-check that tax is included to avoid surprises. Most local hotels provide invoices in English upon request for accurate business or expense reporting.
- Pay in Swedish kronor (SEK) with your card or contactless device rather than selecting Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) in a foreign currency. This typically eliminates extra bank markups. Nearly all hotels, shops, and restaurants in Gothenburg accept card payments; tipping is not usually expected but can be done by card if desired.
- Gothenburg tap water is high quality and safe to drink; bring a refillable bottle to save 15-30 SEK (about $1.50–$3.00 USD). Some hotels provide filtered water stations or refill options in the lobby, so ask at reception if unsure. Explore local parks or canals with your bottle in hand.
- Breakfast is commonly included in chain hotels, while independent hotels may add a charge of 80-160 SEK (about $7.50–$15.00 USD) per person. Always confirm inclusion when booking, as some local hotels offer extras like vegan, gluten-free, or Swedish specialties upon request. Early breakfast times (from 6:00) cater to travelers departing early.
- Reserve parking before arrival, as central hotel garages typically charge 200-400 SEK (around $18–$38 USD) per night and spaces are limited. On-street parking operates under strict enforcement and may require a mobile payment app. Many major hotels offer electric vehicle charging.
- Prefer properties certified with Svanen (Nordic Swan) or Green Key ecolabels for independent verification of sustainability standards. Over 30 hotels in Gothenburg meet these criteria. Ask about specific sustainability initiatives, such as local food sourcing or reduced housekeeping options.
