The air conditioning was nice and cold.
It was the worst hotel I ever seen. Door where broken beds dirty bathroom duty and staff didn't know anything. They say they have breakfast but they are out of everything when you ask them to get more. I will not recomend it to anyone. I didn't stay.

Top Tips
- Book 2-3 months ahead for Millikin University graduation or agribusiness conferences to secure the best hotel options. Major campus or festival dates can double average nightly rates citywide.
- Downtown hotels place you within 0.5 miles of the Decatur Civic Center and local restaurants, while Hickory Point Mall-area hotels (exit I-72) provide direct access to US Route 51 and shopping within a 3-minute drive. Choose your location based on quick access to your event or preferred amenities.
- Rideshares average over 20 minutes wait after 10 pm. Confirm your hotel's shuttle schedule or pre-book a local taxi, as Decatur Public Transit operates fixed routes until approximately 7:30 pm on weekdays.
- Check for at least 50 recent guest reviews rating cleanliness above 4.0 out of 5, and filter for noise mentions on third-party platforms. Hotels with rooms facing busy streets may see more noise—always check if quieter room options are available.
- On-site parking is free at about 80% of Decatur hotels, but during event weekends or at conference properties like Decatur Conference Center, overflow or $15-$25 per night charges apply. Confirm parking details, especially for major events.
- Most hotels include hot breakfast and Wi-Fi at no extra charge, but offerings may be limited on weekends or public holidays. Ask for specific breakfast hours and Wi-Fi speeds, which are often 5-10 Mbps standard.
- Many Decatur hotels allow free modification up to 24 hours before check-in; confirm your room rate is refundable or non-refundable, especially for stays of 3 or more nights or during peak event weeks.
- Suites with two queen beds and sofa beds are common. Specify the number and ages of children when booking cribs or microwaves, since some extras may come with nightly fees or limited availability.
- Pet-friendly rooms typically accept dogs up to 50 lbs, with most charging $15-$75 per stay. Always confirm breed or size restrictions in advance.
- Early check-in or late check-out is especially helpful if you are arriving via Amtrak or using Central Illinois Regional Airport, 50 miles northeast. Request at least 24 hours in advance for the highest success rate.
- Business hotels near I-72 offer 24-hour printing, small meeting spaces, and Wi-Fi speeds above 50 Mbps. If you need wired Ethernet, request it at booking since not all rooms provide ports.
- Look for hotels with well-lit parking lots and keycard-only elevators, especially in downtown Decatur. Larger chains often provide overnight security patrols and controlled-access doors—be aware if walking after 10 pm.
- Most hotels require a credit or debit card for a hold (usually $50-$100 per stay); cash is not accepted at check-in. International guests should confirm accepted payment options ahead of arrival.
- Daily housekeeping opt-in is required at many chains. Request extra towels or trash pickup at the front desk or during check-in, since some hotels limit daily service for stays under 3 nights.
- Tip bellhops $1-2 per bag, housekeeping $2-5 per night (leave daily), valets $2-5, and concierges $5-10 for reservations or extensive help. Use small bills for tipping whenever possible.
- Expect 13% total lodging tax on all hotel bills in Decatur. Ask about facility or resort fees at properties with pools or fitness centers, as these can add $15-$25 per night.
- Downtown restaurants often close by 9 pm, even on weekends. Only national fast food chains within a 10-minute drive stay open 24 hours, so plan dinner before 8:30 pm for more local options.
- Explore Decatur’s BBQ scene—Smoky’s House and Coney McKane’s serve local favorites within 1 mile of downtown hotels. The front desk can recommend new openings or seasonal favorites.
- Decatur Memorial Hospital is located 2 miles west of the city center. Find urgent care clinics within 1-2 miles if you have children or allergy needs; hotel desks offer contact info.
- Decatur hotel staff are local experts; ask them about ride wait times, event safety, or current happenings. Polite requests often yield taxi bookings, maps, or up-to-date local tips at no extra cost.
- Hotels along the east side of town border Lake Decatur, with public boat ramps and fishing piers within 0.5 miles. Ask about lakeside room options for better views if available.
- Business events generally require business casual attire, while downtown is informal and university or church functions can lean toward slacks or dresses. Most venues do not require jackets.
- Quiet hours in most hotels run from 10 pm to 7 am, with violations sometimes incurring fines of $50 or more. Confirm posted hours at check-in to avoid noise disputes.
- During Farm Progress Show or Millikin events, hotel rates may double and sell out up to 2 weeks in advance. Compare options in nearby Forsyth, 5 miles north, if Decatur hotels are booked or costly.
- Major chains around Hickory Point Mall (Hilton, Marriott, Wyndham) offer member perks such as late checkout or free breakfast. Sign up before booking to earn points; most brands require email verification for membership.
