Location and cleanliness and airport shuttle.
This hotel at least gave us complimentary coffee/tea in the lobby with their little machine. Free shuttle to airport was a must and much appreciated. This IBIS hotel was a little nicer than the one in Brussels.

The location was pretty convenient for walking, however Ubers are not allowed to go near the entrance of the hotel so you have to walk across the street to get one.

Top Tips
- Many central Amsterdam hotels are converted 17th-century canal houses with narrow staircases and no elevator. To avoid carrying large suitcases or missing out on accessible rooms, request a lift or step-free ground-floor room when booking. This is important for travelers with mobility needs or families with strollers.
- Amsterdam Centraal Station is about 15-20 minutes from Schiphol Airport by NS intercity or sprinter train, with departures roughly every 10-15 minutes. Tickets cost €5.50-€6.00 (approximately $6-$7 USD) if purchased from machines or the NS app and are usually less expensive than a taxi. For the fastest entry, use a contactless card or phone to go directly through the gates.
- Central and boutique hotels often place a card hold for incidentals or possible damage. The amount varies, so ask the front desk the specific sum at check-in to manage your card limits or choose a secondary card. Some properties release the hold right at checkout, but this is not always the case.
- Secure indoor hotel bike storage usually costs €5-€15 (approximately $6-$16 USD) per day. Bike theft rates are among the highest in the Netherlands, so use indoor storage or a strong U-lock. If using public racks, check with hotel staff for the safest options nearby.
- Hotel parking in central Amsterdam typically costs €30-€50 (about $32-$54 USD) per night. Public garages such as Q-Park charge €3-€7 (around $3-$8 USD) per hour or €30-€60 (roughly $32-$65 USD) per day. Compare these rates before booking a rental car, as public transit is usually faster and more budget-friendly in central neighborhoods.
- Street and nightlife noise can continue until 02:00-04:00 in the Red Light District, Leidseplein, and Rembrandtplein. To sleep more soundly, request a courtyard-facing room or book in Oud-Zuid, De Pijp, or Oost, where transit remains good and the evening is quieter. Earplugs are available at most hotel front desks if needed.
- Filter for hotels with the Green Key (NL) label to find properties with verified recycling, water-saving, and energy measures. Many Amsterdam hotels show their Green Key status on major travel sites or their own website, making eco-friendly choices easy to confirm.
- Hotel breakfasts often cost €12-€22 (approximately $13-$24 USD) per person. For longer stays, local bakeries and cafés offer coffee and a sandwich or pastry for around €3.50-€8 (about $4-$9 USD). Ask at check-in if the hotel has a partnership with a nearby café for possible guest discounts.
- When paying with a foreign card, always choose to pay in euros and decline dynamic currency conversion to avoid hidden markups. Chip-and-PIN Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted, with some hotels also taking Maestro. Notify your bank of travel dates to help avoid declined transactions.
- Daily bike rentals for local travel usually cost €8-€15 (about $9-$16 USD). Plan for 10-20 minute rides between central neighborhoods. Before renting, confirm your hotel offers secure bike parking and ask about local cycling rules, as Amsterdam has dedicated bike lanes and strict right-of-way customs.
