The location was ideal. I had to work remotely while waiting for my kids to finish classes before Thanksgiving. I can't afford the game-day pricing, but could do this hotel for the weekdays after the game.
This is the best hotel for the price in South Bend. The staff is courteous, the hotel is clean and comfortable, the rooms are spacious and I love the walk-in shower and space in the bathroom. This is at least a four star hotel.

I was on the Turnpike and 1/2 mile before my exit, there was a bad accident. I was on the Turnpike for 1 hour. I called the hotel and informed them. When I arrived, they only charged a $25 hold for incidentals instead of the $199.
Cleanliness, comfortable beds, friendly front desk staff
Brand new hotel with stylish finishes. Comfortable bed. Ok for now, but with the apparently lax cleaning it wont age well

Breakfast was good.
Very nice lobby area, good breakfast, terrific staff. We stayed in a suite that gave us tons of room to spread out with the full kitchen, separate living room and separate bedroom. Less than 10 minutes from Notre Dame campus.
Room was dirty. Smelled good, but more than a few hairs on shower walls & curtain. Appliances & mirrors appeared to be cleaned with a dirty cloth. Pool closed. Ice machines broken. Ran out of extra blankets & pillows. Free breakfast was a unsanitary.

Great staff!
The desk with light bar in front of it was very useful for online meeting. Also, provided shampoo and conditioner and body wash!!
I stay at this hotel often when I travel to South Bend. I enjoy the location despite the few parking options available. The Courtyard has always been cleaned and nice overall. You would not be disappointed with the upkeep in this hotel.

Nothing. Because the hotel overbooked, they “relocated” us to a different hotel. Never even went to the Spring Hill Suites where we booked and paid for 3 hotel rooms well in advance.

Top Tips
- Book hotels at least 6 months ahead for Notre Dame football weekends, as room rates commonly double or quadruple and most downtown or campus-adjacent properties sell out. Early booking ensures availability and can help secure loyalty program benefits.
- Select accommodations based on proximity to your arrival point and key sites: South Bend International Airport (SBN) is approximately 3.6 miles from downtown (10-20 minute drive), and the city center is about 1.5 miles from Notre Dame’s main entrance (25-30 minute walk or 6-10 minute drive). Consider hotels offering shuttle service for added convenience.
- Prepare for winter travel delays: in January, lows average 14°F (-10°C), and lake-effect snow may disrupt roads or flights, making travel times unpredictable by 2-6 hours during storms. Verify weather alerts before arrival; many hotels offer in-room forecasts and emergency notifications.
- Check each hotel's parking policy and rates before booking, as downtown South Bend hotels typically charge $15-25 daily for on-site self or valet parking. Guests with accessibility needs should confirm accessible parking options in advance.
- Use South Bend Airport’s official ground transportation info for accurate pickup details, as rideshare prices often surge during Notre Dame event weekends. Many leading hotels partner with local shuttle providers, so confirm availability and scheduling ahead of arrival.
- For Century Center events, reserve rooms 90-180 days prior for walkable options (within 0.2-0.4 miles), reducing reliance on taxis and parking fees. Many chains offer direct access or covered walkways; request event rates when booking.
- Enjoy on-campus access by booking the Morris Inn or other university lodging, which include campus parking. Expect higher rates during major weekends like games or commencement, so advance reservations are recommended for best availability.
- Utilize chain loyalty program perks or AARP/AAA discounts, as most national brands in South Bend offer 5-10% off standard rates on non-event dates. Present membership ID at check-in to confirm your rate.
- Request a quiet room away from streets and elevators; South Bend’s nightlife is concentrated on Michigan Street and adjacent blocks, which can affect noise levels. If sensitivity to sound is crucial, consider a higher floor or bring earplugs, as many properties offer them upon request.
- Verify accessible features (like roll-in showers or step-free entry) in writing prior to arrival, especially in older downtown hotels where bathrooms may be smaller despite meeting ADA standards. For the most up-to-date information, contact the property’s accessibility coordinator.
