The price fit our budget. It was located in a unique spot near Volcano National Park and some nice rural towns with unique shops. Owner made some nice suggestions of local places to stop for breakfast and coffee.
Price. Did not consider this to be a resort, Pricr, this is a Bed & Breakfast home, with a few rooms in an aoutbuilding.Enjoyed breakfast on the deck, overlooking the grounds.

Top Tips
- Reserve hotel rooms 3 to 6 months in advance of the Merrie Monarch Festival in April, as rates typically increase 30%-50% when occupancy nears 100%. For a more authentic experience, consider local cultural programming offered by many hotels during this period.
- Hilo averages 127 inches (3,226 mm) of rainfall per year, so pack waterproof items and footwear. Requesting an upper-floor room helps minimize exposure to street-level water during heavy rain. Some hotels offer complimentary umbrellas; ask at reception.
- If you have respiratory sensitivities, check for volcanic smog (vog) updates from USGS HVO and County Civil Defense, as sulfur dioxide levels may rise episodically. Hotels may provide indoor air purifiers upon request - contact your hotel for availability.
- Accommodation costs in Hilo include a 10.25% Transient Accommodations Tax and General Excise Tax, which are not always reflected in online rates. Confirm the final total with your hotel before booking to avoid surprises at check-in.
- Hilton Honors members at the Grand Naniloa (DoubleTree) may enjoy benefits such as complimentary breakfast or room upgrades, as it is the primary full-service chain hotel in Hilo. Check your membership status to maximize benefits during your stay.
- Hilo’s tap water meets local safety standards, but may have a noticeable chlorine taste. Guest services at most hotels can provide bottled water upon request for guests with sensitivity or preference.
- Select hotels certified by the Hawaii Green Business Program or equivalent for verified water and energy conservation practices. For more details, look for official certification logos at the front desk or on the hotel's website.
