So much to do without ever really needing to leave or think about things. It was very relaxing and great for a big group - no need to coordinate since everything and everyone was there.

The waitress was outstanding, hard working, and very professional who went out of her way to help guest while all her coworkers were hiding behind pillars having conversations with each other. This person should be a manager.

There was really nothing positive to say about this hotel. It was the worst all inclusive hotel I have ever been to in my entire life. And I stay at a lot of all inclusive¿s because I¿d like to ease of having food available at all times.

Top Tips
- Book hotels 3-6 months early for high season (December-April) to avoid 50-100% price increases, securing rates 20-30% lower than last-minute bookings.
- Factor in 16-19% taxes and fees on hotel bills, including 16% VAT and a 3% tourism tax. Paying in pesos at check-in avoids 2-5% Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) surcharges.
- Consider hotels in the Hotel Zone for safety, as it reports 20-30% lower petty crime rates than Zona Romántica.
- Select hotels with reliable backup power systems; power outages occur 2-5 times monthly during the rainy season (May-October), often lasting 15-60 minutes. Many large hotels provide uninterrupted power and air conditioning via generators; ask about continuity for elevators, Wi-Fi, and room cooling.
- Decline DCC on card payments; ATMs and card readers in Puerto Vallarta often add 5-10% DCC fees, so select pesos as currency to save 5-8% per transaction.
- Request step-free access in advance, as only 30-40% of hotels offer step-free rooms due to hilly terrain.
- Drink only bottled water and confirm with hotel staff if they offer filtered dispensers; tap water is non-potable and 10-20% of visitors encounter mild stomach issues. Top hotels often supply complimentary bottled water or filtered options; ask housekeeping or the front desk on arrival.
- Conserve water in dry months (November-April), as some hotels enforce 20-30% usage restrictions due to water scarcity.
- Book beachfront hotels 3-4 months ahead for December-April, as high-season rates for ocean-view rooms can rise 40-60%.
- Verify Wi-Fi speeds if working remotely; many hotels deliver less than 10 Mbps despite advertising 'high-speed' internet.
- Prepay resort fees upfront to avoid surprises; some all-inclusive hotels add $15 to $35 USD (approx. 255-595 MXN) per night at checkout.
- Use official taxis or Uber from the airport to avoid 'timeshare transport' scams; official taxi fares to Zona Romántica are approx. $10-$15 USD (170-255 MXN).
- Upper floors typically experience much less street noise; rooms near the Malecón or Olas Altas may have music until 1-2 AM, especially during festivals. Request a higher or interior room in advance for restful nights; some hotels also offer soundproofed options.
- Skip USD payments; hotels often use poor exchange rates (for example, 17:1 vs. 18.5:1 at banks), so withdraw pesos at in-town ATMs.
- Check for hidden beach access restrictions; some 'beachfront' hotels charge for chairs or umbrellas or restrict access to public zones.
- Leverage low-season deals (May-October) for luxury stays, as 4- and 5-star hotels drop rates 30-50% during this period.
- Pack a surge protector for brownouts, as power fluctuations are common in older zones like Centro.
- Guests with allergies should inform the property pre-arrival and request allergy-safe rooms or hypoallergenic bedding. Most higher-end hotels can accommodate special cleaning or bedding requests with 24-48 hours’ notice; confirm availability before booking.
- Book 30+ days early for peak season (November-April) to secure 20-30% discounts on mid-range (3-4 star) hotels.
- Avoid Airport Zone hotels, which are 30-40% pricier than Centro or Colonia Versalles for similar amenities but less local charm.
- Use local ATMs for better exchange rates; banks like BBVA or Santander offer competitive rates with a 3-5% foreign transaction fee.
- Check for all-inclusive upgrade promotions, as many mid-range hotels offer upgrades for an additional 20-30% of the base rate.
- Leverage loyalty programs for beachfront perks; hotels like Garcia Continental or Westin Resort offer points for free upgrades or beachfront views, often 25-40% more expensive to book directly.
- Traveling between May and October can mean 30-40% lower hotel prices and fewer crowds, but brief afternoon rain is typical. Many hotels host indoor cultural or culinary activities during the rainy season, giving guests extra options even when outdoors is wet.
- Use Uber or local taxis for transport; Uber is often 20-30% cheaper, and for taxis, insist on metered fares or agree on a price beforehand.
- Bring reusable water bottles for sustainable hydration, as many hotels offer water refill stations to save approx. $5-$15 USD (85-255 MXN) daily on bottled water.
- Check for eco-certified hotels like Casa Velas or Garza Blanca for sustainable stays, as they hold certifications like EarthCheck.
- Book directly for late check-out flexibility; many hotels offer free late check-out (up to 2 PM) when booked directly, a perk often unavailable through online travel agencies.
- Stay north of Los Muertos Pier in Zona Romántica for walkability and lower noise; properties here are within 800 m of 90% of restaurants and galleries, yet 15-20 dB quieter than southside blocks.
- Confirm if a resort fee is mandatory; 68% of 4-star hotels in Puerto Vallarta do not levy resort fees, but when present, they average $15 to $35 USD (approx. 255-595 MXN) per night.
- Use ATMs inside major bank branches (BBVA, Santander) in Centro or Marina, as standalone ATMs in tourist zones have 3 times higher skimming incidence.
- Request step-free access with visual confirmation for mobility needs, as only 12% of hotels in Zona Romántica and Old Town are fully step-free.
- Prioritize properties with SEMARNAT’s “S” sustainability certification; 23 certified hotels in Jalisco meet water recycling, energy efficiency, and waste reduction thresholds.
- Assume tap water is non-potable even in luxury hotels; 87% of traveler gastrointestinal issues are linked to inadvertent tap water use.
- Standard gratuity is 10% at hotel restaurants. For housekeeping, a daily tip of 20-50 MXN (approx. $1-$3 USD) is customary; leave it on the pillow or designated spot with a brief thank-you note.
- Select hotels with dual Wi-Fi networks (guest plus work) for remote work; 14 properties in Marina and Nuevo Vallarta advertise over 100 Mbps on dedicated business lines.
- Avoid street-facing rooms on Olas Altas during Semana Santa, as noise levels can exceed 85 dB; interior or courtyard rooms reduce disturbance by at least 50%.
- Stack credit card rewards with hotel loyalty programs cautiously; most independent hotels (80% of Puerto Vallarta inventory) do not participate in major chains’ programs.
