Our hotel suite was beautiful and perfect for our 15 y anniversary eve! Free breakfast in the room overlooking a garden was a big perk and it¿s location to the train station also. The young man running breakfast and the cleaning gal were friendly.
The character of the hotel is amazing! We loved how old the hotel and restaurant were but the rooms were wonderful!! We were upgraded to the suite for no extra charge!
Patricia at the front desk was most helpful throughout our short stay. She gave us very precise directions to places we needed to be, great information on things to see on Gornergrat and the Matterhorn did it all with a smile on her face.

Top Tips
- Park at Täsch and take the shuttle train for the last 12 minutes into Zermatt. Trains usually run every 20 minutes off-peak and every 10 minutes at peak hours. In July-August and December-March, allow an extra 30-60 minutes for parking and shuttle lines. Retain your parking ticket for return validation, and check if luggage transfer services are available at Täsch.
- Confirm in writing if your hotel offers station pickup, as Zermatt is car-free. Many provide pickup by electric taxi or hotel shuttle at Zermatt station, but walking to hotels can take 5-20 minutes depending on location. If needed, verify that accessible pickup is available for guests with mobility requirements.
- Zermatt sits at 1,620 m (5,315 ft) and many viewpoints reach over 3,000 m (9,842 ft). Plan at least 24 hours of light activity on arrival, and hydrate to limit altitude symptoms before strenuous hikes. Many hotels offer complimentary still/sparkling water in rooms, and local pharmacies provide altitude advice. Consider requesting an in-room humidifier or access to hotel wellness areas, as alpine air can be dry.
- Book Zermatt hotels 2-4 months ahead for peak events like the Unplugged Festival (spring live music, draws thousands) or winter holidays such as Christmas and New Year, as rooms often fill by mid-season. Some properties require 8-12 weeks lead time. Booking directly through hotel websites may offer member-rate perks or flexible cancellation options.
- Matterhorn-facing rooms carry a premium and fill quickly; request and confirm any paid upgrades at booking if a view is needed. If unavailable, consider Gornergrat or village/church spire views as alternatives. For privacy or scenery, specify the floor or request a balcony.
- Bring a small refillable bottle, as Zermatt's tap water is potable and high quality. Many hotels provide reusable bottles or glassware in rooms, and fresh spring water fountains are found on Bahnhofstrasse and near the Gornergrat train terminal.
- Most Zermatt properties are independent; booking direct may unlock breakfast or late checkout. Larger brand hotels, when available, often offer loyalty points. Ask about local experience bundles, such as guided hikes or spa access, included with reservations.
- If you need step-free access, confirm it in writing since many historic chalets have stairs or small lifts. Request a guaranteed ground-floor room or elevator access and written confirmation of your room number. Ask about winter access, roll-in showers, or visual alarms if needed, and confirm porter service.
- Plan EV charging before arriving at Täsch, as guest car charging is not available in car-free Zermatt. Täsch P+R is the main lot with public chargers, usually CHF 0.50-0.80/kWh, and may require a Swiss RFID or app. Consider pre-reserving charging spots for holiday weeks.
- Pay in Swiss Francs (CHF) and opt out of dynamic currency conversion (DCC) to avoid extra fees. Hotels, ATMs, and shops use CHF as the main currency. Most take chip or contactless cards, but check with your bank about foreign transaction policies, and notify them of your Swiss travel dates for security.
- Wi-Fi and mobile coverage are generally good in Zermatt; 3-star hotels and above typically include Wi-Fi in the room rate. Major mobile networks like Swisscom and Sunrise cover the valley, but speeds can slow during tourist surges. Business travelers should confirm in-room high-speed Wi-Fi is available if needed for meetings.
- If sensitive to noise, avoid rooms facing the station or Bahnhofstrasse, where train and pedestrian noise is common from 5:30-7:30. Courtyard or mountain-facing rooms are usually quieter. You may also request a room away from hotel bars or restaurants for additional quiet.
