I love the easy access today, Siri
The staff was superb. The receptionist, security guard and airport shuttle driver were excellent. I felt welcomed the minute I walked in. They made excellent suggestions and helped me so much with making decisions.
The water pressure in the shower was the most I have experienced since perhaps the 80's, when a lot of hotels started being stingy with water.

Top Tips
- Book your hotel in Zona 10 (Zona Viva) for 10-25 minute airport transfers and proximity to international hotels with 24/7 dining options. Verify with your hotel whether shuttle service is available or arrange private transfers for late arrivals.
- Use pre-paid airport taxi kiosks at La Aurora or request hotel-arranged transfers to destination zones such as Zona 10. This minimizes safety risks and overcharges; a typical drive takes 10-25 minutes. Confirm pick-up location with your property on arrival.
- Avoid drinking tap water, and use bottled water or check that your hotel provides filtered water for brushing teeth and drinking. Many major chains offer complimentary filtered water in guest rooms; ask at reception if needed.
- Expect a 10% service charge at restaurants and hotels in Guatemala City; check if it’s included before tipping extra. For outstanding service, locals may add 5-10% additionally, so confirm local etiquette with hotel concierge.
- Withdraw cash from ATMs inside bank branches or major malls like Oakland Mall (Banco Industrial, G&T, Banrural) for added security. When using foreign cards, select local currency (GTQ) to avoid added conversion fees; major hotels accept cards, but small purchases may require cash.
- For reliable connectivity, consider a local SIM from Tigo or Claro, as median mobile speeds often exceed 20 Mbps in central districts. Most international hotels provide complimentary Wi-Fi; confirm back-up options if business needs are urgent.
- Store valuables in your in-room safe and avoid walking in Zona 1 (historic center) after sunset. For after-dark travel, book a registered hotel taxi or arrange a driver through your property.
- Request an accessible or step-free room when booking older boutique or colonial hotels in Zona 1 and Zona 4, as elevator access may be limited. Confirm availability and features directly with hotel staff.
- Dengue fever is present year-round; choose hotels with air conditioning, sealed windows, or effective screens. Ask about mosquito control measures if you are prone to bites; long sleeves and repellent reduce risk.
