Top Tips
- Book Regina hotels 6 to 8 weeks ahead for Saskatchewan Roughrider home games to lock in standard rates (about $130–$170 CAD) and access central districts, as prices typically increase 35–50% and availability drops under 20% within 4 weeks of game day.
- Expect to pay an additional 14–18% on Regina lodging for taxes and fees, covering 5% GST, 6% PST, and up to 3% municipal surcharge. A $150 CAD nightly room will total about $171–$177 CAD after tax; always request a full breakdown before confirming.
- Pick hotels within 400 meters of Albert Street or Victoria Avenue for a 10-minute walk or less to City Square Plaza, Regina Public Library, and access to bus routes 6, 7, and 10.
- Use ATMs inside Royal Bank or TD branches to avoid surcharges of about $15 USD ($21 CAD), as independent ATMs in hotels or bars often charge this fee. Bank-owned ATMs typically only charge your home bank’s fee (about $0–$3 USD).
- If you need to work remotely, confirm hotel Wi-Fi speeds, as the median upload in Regina hotels is 12–18 Mbps (download 85–110 Mbps). Request a room near the front desk or business center for the strongest signal.
- Decline Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) when using foreign cards at check-in to avoid a 3–6% markup. Always pay in CAD and check all payment terminal prompts carefully.
- Request accessible, step-free rooms early since only 12% of Regina hotel rooms have full accessibility features, including roll-in showers. Book directly with the hotel to confirm the exact layout, as online travel aggregator filters are often inaccurate.
- Event weekends like Queen City Ex in July cause hotel rates to rise 40–60%, with occupancy near 90%. Book at least 10 weeks in advance, or look at Moose Jaw (85 km away), which is usually about 30% cheaper.
- Regina’s tap water has 400–500 mg/L sulfate. If you are sensitive, choose hotels like Sandman or Hotel Saskatchewan that provide filtered water stations, or ask at check-in for filtered water options.
- For stays over 4 nights, favor hotels with on-site laundry. Extended-stay options such as Coast Regina or Suburban Suites offer coin laundry, saving about $3–$5 CAD per load and 1.5–2 hours compared to using public laundromats.
- Select LEED-certified hotels like Hotel Saskatchewan for verified sustainability, as these properties use about 25–30% less water than the provincial average during Regina’s dry season (June to August).
- Tipping housekeeping $2–$5 CAD daily in an envelope with a thank-you note is increasingly common in Canada and is appreciated by staff.
