The room was super clean. The First Nations artwork in the room by Shawn Johnny is beautiful. The breakfast was quite good and I was very pleased that it had 2 different non-dairy milk options.

Two things made this a place we will try to stay at whenever in the area: 1. The view - tremendous and unbeatable 2. The staff - wonderfully welcoming Wonderful restaurant, too. Our only regret not making it a longer stay. Thanks!
The view of Finlayson Arm .... stunning! The room layout is great too.
Beautiful view

From a Motel 6 you expect a clean and efficient room and an easily accessible location, the Saanichton Motel 6 checked all the boxes in these areas for myself and cousin. What gave this Motel 6 a little extra was the happy and pleasant check-in staff!
Good price and near restaurant
We needed to be close to the airport for an early flight and it was. Also good for day tripping to Sidney

The location. First time in Sindney and love this little town. This hotel is in the best spot. Right in the middle of all the action and beautiful nature. Love the coffee shop and restaurant being conveniently located right downstairs.

Nothing...it wasn't a hotel ...it was a motel and far from being the 3 star hotel as advertised.
It was clean.
Dirty room, air conditioning didn't work in either room; squeaky bed; coffee machine didn't work correctly; bar right next door to room, loud AND charged US dollars even though it is in Canada! Nothing good about this hotel. Do not stay there

Location was great, near everything, had a walking trail right behind the hotel that would take you 20 min to downtown.

This was probably the best hotel I've ever stayed at for the price/star-rating. It was eclectic. The staff was FANTASTIC. The rooms were fun (who can say that about a hotel). Each room had a different display and it was like stepping back in time
Conveniently located close to two large malls (including a Walmart), bus station close by with many scheduled stops directly to downtown and several restaurants nearby. The hotel restaurant is also very good.
Fun hotel with a funky 70s vibe. We loved "Granny's basement". It's nice that they had a pool table and a fun place to hang out. In the lobby I listened to some old vinyl on a turntable, and they had a lot of games, so we hung out and played games.

Up-scale resort hotel. Our room was clean and spacious with nice views. Hotel provided free bottled water. Bathroom was large with great (large) bathtub. Grounds of the hotel were gorgeous right on the beautiful harbor. We will gladly go back!
Location and staff
It is a gorgeous hotel away from the everyday hurry scurry of life. The view from the room and grounds is beautiful and relaxing. It is an oasis. We thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub and swimming pool. The staff was very hospitable and helpful.

Top Tips
- Expect 45-60 minutes by car from Victoria International Airport (YYJ) to Duncan, 40-50 minutes from Swartz Bay ferry terminal, or 40-60 minutes from Nanaimo ferry terminals (Departure Bay or Duke Point), depending on traffic. Check drive times and taxi or shuttle costs before booking, as local taxi fares range from CA$90-175 for airport or ferry transfers. Pre-book transport for arrivals after 22:00, since late-night options are limited.
- If you want loyalty points or consistent amenities, choose a chain hotel in Nanaimo (30-45 minutes by car) or Victoria (45-60 minutes). Duncan lodging is mostly small motels and B&Bs, often without major programs. Chain hotels typically offer 24-hour front desks, accessible rooms, gyms, and on-site dining; compare options if these services are required.
- Confirm on-site parking size and any RV or oversize vehicle policy directly at booking. Many Duncan motels and B&Bs provide free parking, but lot sizes vary and vehicles longer than 6 m (20 ft) may not be accommodated. Clarify parking availability and restrictions to avoid searching for overflow or off-site parking.
- Many smaller Duncan properties (fewer than 20 rooms) have limited accessibility, such as no elevators and possible steps between floors or at entrances. If you need step-free access, an accessible room, or visual alarms, confirm these features in writing and request a ground-floor room when you book. For more consistent accessibility, consider national chain hotels in Victoria or Nanaimo.
- Cowichan District Hospital is the main acute-care facility for Duncan and is open 24/7 at 3045 Gibbins Rd, about 2 km (1.2 mi) from most hotels. For urgent needs, note this address and carry travel insurance; non-urgent care is usually available weekdays during daytime hours.
- Occupancy in Duncan is high during July-August and on statutory long weekends, with small properties often fully booked 3-6 weeks in advance. Reserve at least a month early for key dates, group stays, or events. Be aware that flexible cancellation policies may not apply during local festivals or peak weekends.
- Small-scale Duncan lodgings often have basic Wi-Fi service, with speeds under 10 Mbps common. If you need dependable workspace or video calls, check speed details ahead and consider using Duncan’s public library (2687 James St) or a coworking venue during business hours. Some hotel lobbies or nearby cafes may offer stronger connections for guests.
- Pet-friendly options are typical in Duncan, with nightly fees generally CA$15-20 and size or number limits varying. Get all pet policies and charges confirmed in writing before booking. For service animals, ask about documentation requirements if needed by the property.
