Excellent value for the money. Comfortable, updated room (nothing fancy). Pleasant staff, nothing exceptional. Decent, average, free breakfast — not the best, not the worst. But the accommodations were well worth the price paid!

Top Tips
- Secure summer (June-August) or fall (September-October) hotel bookings in Canandaigua 2 to 4 months in advance. Festival and foliage seasons typically increase nightly rates by 20-40%, especially at well-known chains near the lakefront. Early booking provides more choice and avoids local event surcharges.
- Expect 8-14% in local hotel occupancy taxes on top of your nightly rate in Canandaigua. For a typical room, this adds around $15 to $25 USD per night, so factor this into your overall accommodation budget before finalizing your booking.
- Choose a hotel on or near Main Street for walking access to restaurants and attractions. This central area reports annual crime rates below 1%, supporting safety for guests returning late from nearby venues.
- Check that your hotel offers Wi-Fi speeds of 50-100 Mbps if you need to work remotely. Power outages from winter storms can occasionally occur from November to March, so confirm backup options before arrival if reliable internet is essential.
- For winter stays (November-March), request a room with a heating system certified for temperatures below 20°F (-7°C). Periodic Arctic cold snaps in the region can impact guest comfort in older properties.
- Select a hotel with Green Key certification, available at 10-20% of local properties, to support water conservation during dry summer periods. Ask the front desk about water-saving in-room practices for further impact.
- Use major bank ATMs such as Bank of America to avoid 2-3% foreign card fees, as most Canandaigua hotels accept credit cards with no additional charge. Confirm your card’s international fee policy before travel.
- Booking a hotel Monday-Thursday in Canandaigua often saves 20-30% compared to weekend rates. Properties near the lake and Main Street see the largest weekend surcharges due to tourism demand.
- Most chain hotels or motels provide free on-site parking. Historic downtown B&Bs and lakefront inns may offer only limited or valet-only parking, so verify parking availability and extra charges before arrival.
- If step-free access is needed, request an accessible room with a roll-in shower or ground-floor location. In Canandaigua’s 19th-century hotels, accessibility is not guaranteed, so always confirm this prior to arrival.
- Contact your hotel in advance to confirm overnight boat or trailer parking options, since most downtown properties cannot accommodate trailers. Marinas around Canandaigua Lake may offer suitable facilities for larger rigs.
- Stay within 0-0.5 miles (0-0.8 km) of Main Street to enjoy easy access to both the lake and local dining. Being central can save on parking costs, especially after 18:00 when street parking fills up.
- On arrival, note the address for the nearest hospital; Thompson Health is located a short drive from downtown for medical emergencies. Save this information in your phone for quick reference during your stay.
- Rochester International Airport (ROC) is about a 30-40 minute drive (30 miles/48 km) from Canandaigua. As public transportation is limited, pre-book a rental car or ride service for direct airport-to-hotel transfers.
